Nepal finally declared a Secular Republic dethroning the Kingdom that ruled Nepal for 240 years. The great political segacity was seen when the Nepalese Constituent Assembly chose to declare itself a secular republic from the Hindu Kingdom. This is redeeming feature of the great historical decision taken in the interest of landlocked country. King Gynandera should have taken a lead in quitting the palace in the light of the landslide victory for the Communists and their declared intention to abolish Kingdom. But it was not to be and he has to leave the Kingdom with fifteen days as a common man. With this the rutheless chapter of Kingdom has come to a close. People of Nepal living in perpetual poverty while their King was enjoying all the comforts of life, will now look to the Maoists to deliver the much awaited poverty alleviation programmes for the benefit of the people. The task is cut out before them. Education must be given top priority besides creating job opportunities for all classes of people so that they need look to India or other places for doing odd jobs,as most of the Napalese living in India are doing menial jobs. The national prestige is at stake and the Napalese should do everything to redeem it by creating more opportunities at home. Industrialisation is another area which the new govt has to think seriously besides improving agriculture and tourism. All these and more have to be done in order to bring back Napal from chaotic conditions due to Maoists attacks.

dear partha dutta
donot worry. soon it is going to fall. the sequence will be as below
1. the islamic states propagate terrorism 2. they attack america UK etc 3. america will lash at them 4. kill the kings like in iraq 5. will establish a puppet of america as PM as like in afganisthan 6. then they also will become democratic nations.
its all the matter of when petrol will get exhausted.
God.......please save India from such journalist..I am in US and just watched CNN and they just mensioned End of Monarchy and Be Independent republic.......
Dear Mr Pradhan...let Nepal be only Hindu country in the world....Dont play politics in Nepal dear....
Nepal has become a new Republic now after abolishing two hundred forty years of monarchy there. This motion was voted by five hundred sixty votes in six hundred one members Assembly there. As such, the motion was adopted yesterday declaring Republic in Nepal by abolishing monarchy per Article 159 of the interim Constitution there. Nepal People at large have our heartiest congratulations on becoming Nepal a new Republic. The Govt. duly formed under the leadership of Prachand will have a very testing time ahead as he has to lead his nation towards peace & all round progress. He has to provide good governance & strengthen democracy in real sense by taking every body along with him. Unemployment & poverty are two great menaces that he will be required to tackle very efficiently. He will be required to promote Nepal Tourism that has got great potentialities & bring it in the world map of Tourism. He must maintain very friendly relations with India as both the countries have a very rich heritage & friendly relations. There is no doubt that Nepal has a great future and will be known as a real Republic in International Arena in near future. Let us wish all the best to all living in Nepal on being its new Republic!
in monarchy/dictatorship only the leader is corrupted and in democracy everybody (of the government functionaries) is corrupted. Welcome to the corrupted world Nepal!
The people in Nepal are eagerly waiting for the Changes in Nepal. The Nepalese people have changed now. The politicians just can't do whatever they feel like, which they have done so far. So, obiviously it's good for the country itself.
So far the MAOIST behaviour don't seemed changed, They still kill people, threat people, ask for donations. The majority they got in recent poll is how they won after threating the ppl. If they still don't change after going in Govt. the Nepalese people will throw them out of Nepal. so, watch out !!! The Nepalese have learnt to SPEAK OUT.
Most of the people living in Mountain/Hilly Region are non hindu's. So, it's high time that the people in that area should be given even rights. If they rise, it will be the end. Nepal depends so much on Tourism.
So, good luck for all the Nepalese Fellows..................
Do you think millions of Nepalese are fools enough to declare their country as a Republic, and not anymore under monarchy? Indians worry about Nepal simply because now Nepal will be more a little more independent in its foreign policies and not dictated by India. Under the Kings, Nepal was totally under Indian rule and directions. Now Nepal will flourish in economy, in social well beings, it will attract more foreign investments (not necessarily Indian investment although). India need to engage Nepal like equal partner --not some backwater country which has no self-respect. Nepalis serving in Indian Army or in Indian cities and towns as waiters, guards, high-skilled professionals should get a little more respect from Indians, than simply be called "Bahadurs". WIsh Nepal good luck in its new journey. You guys deserve it and you got it after prolonged war!!a Cheers Nepal and all Nepalese. Work hard to better your life and country.

Nepal is transforming itself from a feudalistic/monarchial society to a democratic society . Why will a nation and its people still be dictated by feudalistic ways in the 21st century. This is true independence. A nation and its people's dignity is a very important issue today and every Nepali deserves to live with dignity not only inside Nepal but outside as well. I am not a Nepali but i appreciate the process of political change which Nepal is undergoing now. Though i am not very comfortable about the fact that a Leftist extremist political faction is ruling Nepal now but atleast there is some change towards the better. Before economic development i believe its true democracy and individual liberty that should come first. The image of Nepal and the Nepalese will cahnge and will be respected citizens of planet earth. However, its should not forget its culture and tradtions, in other words, its Hindu Identity. Its important to maintain Hinduism as a dominant religion in Nepal within democracy and secularism.

This man is either a pakistaani agent, trying to create hatred among indians and nepalese, or is a Maoist.. look at all of his posts and you will know what I mean..
people of nepal will soon learn the facts of secularism (south asia variety) i.e. secular = christian, muslim and communist communal = hindu hindus, welcome to second class citizenship

You idiot , always thinking negative in life. Indians have become habituated to thinking negative in life. You guys suck a lot. Don't worry about Hindus in Nepal. Its the Nepalese Hindus who have choosen to be a secular republic country after so much war with the Monarchy. WIsh them good luck instead of being negative minded in life. And grow up a little bit. India is not a small country or some weak nation which can be taken over by Muslims or some other country. Work hard, do something in life, instead of being negative minded in Rediff commentary.

You Idiot, if you don't have any idea what RSS stands for and what is their version of secularism, keep quite instead of writing something and showing your stupidity
I would like to make two comments. Firstly, the maoists held discussions with the other major parties, and in the constituent assembly vote conducted today, only 4 out of the 560 who voted, supported the notion for retaining monarchy.
Secondly, why should the Hindus in Nepal worry about the newly declared federal structure? Nepal is still a Hindu-majority country. The majority of the Maoist cadres themselves are Hindus. The majority of the important intellectuals in Nepal are Hindus. The Nepali Hindus knew perfectly well what they were doing when they voted to maoists to power.
Indians should stop worrying about the plight of Nepali Hindus. They are perfectly fine. Nepali Hindus are liberal but still deeply commited to their faith. They know it is best to move forward without an incompetent and callous hereditary institution. They know their multi-ethnic country calls for a secular framework in order be inclusive and accommodating of the many minority ethnic groups in their country. Only a tiny group of fundamentalists and ancien-regime stooges still support monarchy. The rest of Nepalis look forward to a new future.

The newest republic has reduced the King to a common man. That's fabulous.
Hey, you know ... our TN CM Karuna, who is also so educated that he knows Lord Ram is not a graduate, meets Prince of Arcot for election blessings. How secular!
