I'm also a Gujjar and feel very sorry whtever is happening in Raj.Many ppl blasting us for the current situation.
Only reason v can't get reservation is cause of Political motive.O'wise if u consider Econo n socio status..Gujjar need tht drastically.
At the time of independence, No doubt MEENAS were more needy for Job reservation thn us. I won't say nythin abt their status. But if u travel by train u can easily notice on every 2nd or 3rd station..One Meena'll be holding one position..n actlly thy holding gud position e'where. Nothing agnst thm bt now they don't want to share dis Reservation pie with nyone. They enjoyin alone since 60 yrs n want to continue. And Govt.( BJP or Cong...whoever ) will not listen to gujjar cause GUJJAR are only 5% of RAJ. population and MEENAS constitute 12%. Apart of this govt. came in power by making promises to gujjars...WHY THESE KILLINGS NOW....?
Agree agiatation is not the way but what shld gujjar do. First we appealed in 1960..thn in 1983..GOVT promised in 2003..thn 2007 they assured to resolve it bt stop agaitation..thn in 2008.
Will you guys want to say Gujjars shld keep petience and shld resolve by Talks.
In J&K and Himachal Gujjars have ST status. U knw why because there they are around 20%. So wht happens suddenly whn v enters in RAJ.
I guess suddenly their condtion improves.
I knw posting here not goin to help Gujjars..N considering MEENA's Size I m sure in the End Gujjars won't get anything. But I just want to make some point clear.

If you say - At the time of independence, No doubt MEENAS were more needy for Job reservation thn us.
Then why you left behind (in past 60 years)???? Because your community never tried to lift your status. Think of General Category, they didnt had anything in the past, not present and couldnt get anything in future.

SC/ST/OBC etc get cheaper education in schools. Cheaper education in colleges. Then why reservation in Jobs????? Will there be any end to reservation? In past 60 years THE GOVERNMENT WASNT ABLE TO UPLIFT THE STATUS, IT CANT DO IN FUTURE.

but, what makes people think that only reservations will help a community (Gujjars or any other community)

is this country so bankrupt that people have to look upto a few jobs that are thrown through reservations and quotas?

is this such a stupid country?

are these communities so stupid, that they can not think of progress without reservations and quotas

reservation
by krishna swamy on May 29, 2008 09:45 AM  Permalink

IT is sad to read the interview. Here is a man who has golden opportunity to take his community up a different way to empowerment and upliftment and properity. He commands tremendous crediblity among his community from having rsien from a sepoy to Col. and now that he being a man who has challenged circumstances to rise based on pure merit. I was really heartened to think that this man can lead his community to progress in a innovative way by securing better terms from the Govt for education which is no doubt a major issue with this community who are otherwise very worldy wise and prosperous. It would have been a great attempt to bring about a change outside the limited perimeters of reservations. As regards backwardness it is their relative propserity that is the cause for their lack of literacy wherein the value of education is at a discount within the Community that is what this Honourable gentleman should be addressing rather laming the community with a crutch of reservation and playing this blackmail on the country along with vested interest for some sort of electrol profits by adding oil to the fire with such inflamtory Headline. will Col. BHAISALA RISE TO THE OCCASION OR WILL HE ALSO BE TRAPED IN THIS MADNESS OF UPMANSHIP WHAT WITH ROTTING DEAD BODIES FOR DISPLAY AS IF THEY ARE SOME TROPHIES. Tel us Col. Bhaisala what do you expect the govt of the day do when his supporters go on uprooting Rail Tracks burning public property and trying to hold the country to ransom?

Agitation for Reservation
by William Drastic on May 29, 2008 09:43 AM  Permalink

Come on guys! reservation for what? The political party in power claims to be secular but there are many other ways of dividing society (ask them they are masters at it). On one hand we talk of equality and on the other there is special treatment for one or the other section! Equality cannot be unequal! I think the time has come to do away with all reservations. We should ensure equal opportunity for all so that there are many more Abdul Kalams. Just as it was wrong to have discriminated against people on lines of caste, it is patently wrong on our part to now indulge in reverse discrimination. Am I the only wise one? Certainly not. The wisdom is written on the wall for all to see but vote bank compulsions make them blind. Col Bainsla has perhaps not read the story of Frankenstein's monster. Now the monster of the reservation demand has become too powerful for him or anyone to handle, as it always does. Wake up India, wake up!

Karamchand Gandhi and Bhimrao Ambedkar implanted it as a cancer for future India and we are getting the agony till now. We have nothing to do but to support govt as per our constitution and keep the division in society as per caste and classes rather than poverty level so that atleast the lower caste can get some reservation and jobs and upper class even if poor sd not be allowed.

In the kingdom of the blind!
by Ramesh Kapoor on May 29, 2008 09:23 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

One eyed person is the king, and this is what Col. Bainsla has proved himself to be. It is a shame that he put the whole tribe of Gujjars in jeopardy for a quota as a scheduled tribe, notwithstanding the fact that this would lower their living standard. But then wisdom hardly travels at speed, and who will pay the price for the victims of this agitation?

Gujar Agitation
by Prem Gutty on May 29, 2008 09:23 AM  Permalink

It is definitelys and that some protestors got killed in police firing. How evr no protestor or any one has any right to prevent others from leading their life normally. The way the protestors were armed with spears and sticks, their intenstions are clearly visible- that of threatening and forcing others. In such a case, police would be very well justified to shoot.

INDIAN GOVERNMENT AND POLICE PERSONNEL NEED TO CHANGE THEIR SADISTIC, TRIGGER-HAPPY AND REPRESSIVE MENTALITY AND ENSURE THAT CITIZENS' DEMOCRATIC AND HUMAN RIGHTS ARE NOT VIOLATED

INDIAN GOVERNMENT AND POLICE PERSONNEL NEED TO CHANGE THEIR SADISTIC, TRIGGER-HAPPY AND REPRESSIVE MENTALITY AND ENSURE THAT CITIZENS' DEMOCRATIC AND HUMAN RIGHTS ARE NOT VIOLATED
on 29 May 2008 From all available reports over the years, crowd control in India does not appear to have ever been conducted in compliance with the guidelines set out by the United Nations or by civil liberties and human rights organisations like Amnesty International or Human Rights Watch even though many States in the Union have set up so seeming show case Human Rights Commissions to watch out for any human rights violations in policing. In particular the principle that the government and law enforcement agencies shall make increased use of alternative non-lethal methods and technologies for crowd control do not seem to have ever been followed. There were no claims that lives were in danger from Gujjar agitation. On the other hand, the whole nation knows how trigger-happy and sadistic the Indian police are and have always resorted to using live ammunition on unarmed civilians at the slightest provocation and used it this time and last time, too, on the very first day of the agitation. The study of several agitations, rallies and demonstrations also show that police, thinking that they are the be all and end all of everything that a repressive ruler can do to the citizenry, have always thought it their right to resort to violence, sadistic methods and murder inside and outside the police station

Ethnic cleansing is required which Gandhi tried doing it but failed. Then he laid the foundation of Dalit and caste and fuelled it by shouting untouchability. It was like saying I am not thief when no one asked you even. He was a shrewd politician and he knew that there r breeds of Indians who served gulami to British for so long will talk abt human rights and will keep fighting. He is successful today.

FIRING AS A METHOD OF CROWD CONTROL AND THE KILLING OF CITIZENS REQUIRE SERIOUS QUESTIONING

FIRING AS A METHOD OF CROWD CONTROL AND THE KILLING OF CITIZENS REQUIRE SERIOUS QUESTIONING
29th May 2008 The death of any human being, innocent or guilty, in any protest rally, agitation, demonstration or riot makes me profoundly sad. Indian riots, as I have seen them, are the bloodiest in the world. I have seen them happen, could smell the pungency of death, tasted the salt in my mouth, brushed shoulders with them and stared at them full face, just as I have seen them on the battered faces of those who have been hit by the police. The sight of death and the taste of blood revolts me. It fills me with maniacal hatred for the police, politicians and those in authority, something which make me understand why oppressed peoples go on a murder rampage after a successful revolution. Countless innocent people, including police and para-military personnel, have died in police firings in countless riots in our country over the years. They have laid down their lives without question or even a promise for a better tomorrow for their children and thousands of women have been widowed and children orphaned. And since thousands have died in countless police firings since independence, firing as a method of crowd control requires serious questioning. Aren’t there any other methods of controlling the crowds? There are. Since there is at least one such adventure by the police every other week and sometime several in a given week in our country, an answer to this question is urgent.

POLICE NEED TO ADOPT SOME NON-LETHAL METHODS AND TECHNOLOGIES OF CROWD CONTROL

POLICE NEED TO ADOPT SOME NON-LETHAL METHODS AND TECHNOLOGIES OF CROWD CONTROL
on 29 May 2008 During the past several decades, there have been national policing trends all over the world toward the adoption of a growing arsenal of less-lethal weapons. Less-lethal weapons are intended to reduce officers’ need to use lethal force without diminishing officers’ effectiveness or undermining the safety of officers, protestors or bystanders. Even as new non-lethal technologies are deployed, police leaders have faced concerns from the public regarding the safety and appropriate use of the new weapons. Lathis which are most often used by the police in India are also lethal weopons that have seriously maimed and killed thousands in the 60 years of independence, so much so that the deaths by the police due to lathi-charges and police firing now far exceed the number maimed or killed during the Jalianawala Baug massacre during British Raj. Lathi-charge in legal terms is assault and battery and maiming and killings by lathi-charge or police firing is murder and contravanes many human rights conventions and accords. The issue can also be brought as a public interest litigation before the High Court of the States or the Supreme Court. Many countries have made it illegal, banned and done away with the use of even rubber bullets, which in any case were used below the knees to temporarily disable protestors. There is increased use now in many countries of specially manufactured vehicles/truck
