The criminals who sell adulterated liquor should be hanged in case that causes any deaths. Those who drink and die have done it on their own. The state cannot compensate. Does the government compensate if one jumps off a cliff or falls in front of a running train?
Instead, the government is compensating the family (this acts as an incentive for some more to drink) and allowing the criminals to go scot free.
The system is abused by politicians, and bureaucracy who are hand in glove with criminal vendors.

I fully agree with u Imran. I don't understand why one should grieve for those who have done a crime by brewing/drinking hooch in the first place & I don't understand why the govt of Karnatka is compensating by paying Rs. 50,000/- to the relative of the dead, for the crime. Another way of misusing the taxpayers money.

Well so many Muslims die ever year in Stampede in Mecca............do you start Jehad against Mecca Try to demolish black cube ?????? Killing by Bomb is Totally different than Spirit........... Don't try to act smart people die everyday with so many other cause............ Go back to school and learn something other than fanaticism.....
alcoholism is very much prevalent in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Those who can afford it go to licensed outlets and buy their alcohol. The poor laborers go to the neighborhood bootlegger where they get their hooch at a fraction of the price. Its essential to know the difference between ethyl and methyl alcohol, which most illicit liquormakers dont know, leave alone the illiterate daily wage earners who consume it. When its impossible to stop people from consuming alcohol atleast some awareness should be imparted on how to tell the difference between good and bad liquor. As doctors say good liquor is the only antidote for bad liquour. So while abstention is best recomended, for those who cant do without it, cheap legal outlets for the poor should be opened. thats the only way to prevent bootleggers taking the life of people with their hootch. Unfortunately state governments look at liquor trade as only a revenue source and levy duties so high that low income groups cant go anywhere near the govt sanctioned/run shops.

Now you are suggesting subsidizing liquor!

It is a loss of 156 votes to those contesting elections and distributing the liquor in Karnataka. That is a big number to lose! But illicit liquor brewers cannot be blamed, after all if there is somebody who wants free drink, blame is on everybody.
