France convicts 7 of recruiting for interior spiritual struggle

PARIS
A Paris court sentenced seven men to prison terms of up to seven years on Wednesday for helping to send French youths to fight alongside insurgents in Iraq, ending a four-year investigation into a jihadist recruitment ring.
The men %u2014 five French, one Algerian and one Moroccan %u2014 were tried on charges including criminal association with intent to commit terrorism.

Jean-Julien Xavier-Rolai, the prosecutor, had accused the group of sending about a dozen young Frenchmen to join Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia who was killed in an American airstrike in 2006, after funneling them through radical religious establishments in Syria and Egypt.

At a six-day trial in March, most of the men testified that they had either been to Iraq after the 2003 American-led invasion or had planned to go, but they denied having been part of a network that recruited insurgents.

The group%u2019s leader, Farid Benyettou, 27, was given a six-year-sentence. Mr. Benyettou, a former janitor and self-taught preacher, was accused of recruiting fighters from Paris mosques and justifying suicide bombings in private sermons given in his family apartment.

Boubakeur al-Hakim, 24, who had fought in Iraq and was accused of running a way station in Syria for French youths headed for Iraq, was sentenced to seven years. So was Said Abdellah, 39, a Moroccan citizen.

Nacer Eddine Mettai, a 39-year old Algerian national, was ordered jailed for four years for forging passports.

CHANDIGARH: Poonam was bundled into a waiting jeep on Thursday night and thrown into the Rajasthan canal by her father and six other male members of her Jat family because she wouldn't let go of Mukhram, a young Dalit boy. But the feisty 19-year-old survived drowning, in what would probably have been the umpteenth honour killing in Haryana, to fight back and charge her relatives with attempted murder.

Presently at the Nari Niketan in Karnal, Poonam, a resident of Bani in Sirsa district, left home on September 18 last year on the pretext of taking some exam and married her lover. But on September 27 her parents got to know of it and brought her back by force. She was soon shifted to her relative's house in a village called Dhotad where family members tried unsuccessfully for three months to dissuade her from continuing her relationship with Mukhram. Their patience finally wore out on Thursday and around 10 pm she was thrown into the swirling canal, at a spot where the water was the deepest.

But only did she swam to safety, battling her way to the bank of the canal near Tibbi, a settlement on the Rajasthan border, but also approached the police to demand justice.

Confirming Poonam's story, SHO Anil Kumar said, "On Friday, a case was registered against the seven accused under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 364 (abduction with intention to kill) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. All of them are absconding and we are looking for them."

Among those accused are Poo

Among those accused are Poonam's father Prabhu Ram, her cousin Satbir, grandfather Jat Ram and four others. Sirsa SP Vikas Yadav, too, said prima facie it did seem like the girl's father tried to kill her. The case comes days after Subhash Chander, a Chicago resident, killed his daughter Monika, son-in-law Rajesh Jhamb and grandchild Vansh in their Oak Forest apartment because Monika married "below her caste."

May main hero character in Mahabharata was SriKrishna who argued with Arjuna to murder in cold blood his own GrandFather Bheeshma, his KulGuru Kripacharya and his dear teacher DronaCharya. who just had to forcibly stay with the Kauravas and were not bad, and he finnaly did murder by doing cheating like shooting arrows at Karna after the evening time has passed by rules of the war. Then with no guilt of cheating in the timings our Hero Krishna went dancing in the village grave coolly with his gopikas and also loved Draupadi who i must say was quite good-looking, so cant blame our Hero who we pass off as God.

I feel deep sense of shame that Hindus (from my in MP) are using Tilak from human excretions and dipped in Tulsi water. Quran is some other religions text which is their private matter but why do detailed analysis and speak bad about others? Our own SriKrishna whom we call as God asked us to kill our own grandfather (Arjun-Bheeshma) and then danced on his village grave with 160000 gopikas. Did our Shiva not chop off our Ganeshas head when he saw parvati bathing ? Does not Kaali Devi drink blood like a maniac? IS not Hanuman a monkey ? DId not Shiva drink Bhaang like a drug addict ? Did not SHri Ram doubt his wife's faithfulness that she slept with Ravana and we call him God but he is more doubtful than man? WHY all these insults man for others when our own religion has faults?

i didnt ..
i believe that the essence of every religion is the same..
its the interpretation that is flawed..
and if the interpretation for most followers leads to violence and crime, then there is cause for concern..

I can appreciate what you are saying. First of all we are not sure , if that really happened. Regardless,in present times nobody is killing others in the name of GOD. When I ask muslims about the killings, I get a standard answer that they are not muslims, but who are they? they have no answer, even though they read the same Hollybook and go to the place to pray to the same Allah, unless that Especial Allah is hiding and nobody knows where he is and comes out when looks at the ID's of these terrorists. This is not at a small place but around the world, and killing each other in the name of GOD in the House of God.Please explain?

Iraqi jihadists use 8-year-old girl as suicide bomber
by greatbush on May 15, 2008 02:05 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

An eight-year-old girl was strapped with remote-controlled explosives and used as a human bomb by Iraqi insurgents in a blast that killed an Iraqi commander earlier today.
An Iraqi captain was killed and seven other soldiers were injured in the explosion which took place in the town of Youssifiyah, south of Baghdad.

The explosives were detonated as the girl approached the Iraqi commander....

Involving women in fighting violates religious taboos in Iraq, but extremists are recruiting females and youths to stage suicide attacks in a desperate attempt to beat tightened security measures.

Women can avoid thorough searches at checkpoints because of Islamic sensitivities, and four have carried out suicide bombings since November

Binayak Sen says poor people have real grievances
One of India's best-known public health specialists and human rights activists, Dr Binayak Sen, has now spent a year in an Indian prison.

He is accused of links with Maoist rebels in Chhattisgarh, one of India's poorest states where the rebels have a strong presence. The doctor denies the charge.

During a court appearance earlier this year, Dr Sen said he did not support the Maoists.

"If they arrest people like me, human rights workers will have no locus standi. I have never condoned Maoist violence. It is an invalid and unsustainable movement," he told Tehelka magazine.

'Real grievances'

At the same time, Dr Sen has maintained the Maoists have tapped into a groundswell of legitimate grievances. The grievances [of the people] are real. There is an ongoing famine in the region. Forty per cent of the country lives with malnutrition," he said.

The Maoists say they are fighting their long-running insurgency for the rights of landless farmers and tribes.

Dr Sen, a trained paediatrician, was working with poor tribal people in Chhattisgarh, when he was detained last year. He was also a senior member of the local unit of a leading Indian human rights group, the People's Union for Civil Liberties.

The recent judgment of a Delhi court holding guilty ten policemen for the killing of two businessmen in an encounter killing has brought to the fore the issue of the growing culture of police encounters in our society. It is a matter of concern for a society that the public at large treats encounters as a routine and necessary part of police work. A lack of effective internal mechanisms to probe police decision-making leading to encounters and the virtual absence of credible independent complaints mechanisms to investigate encounters, particularly where an allegation of their being `fake%u2019 are levelled, has made the situation more alarming.

The encounter killing case of businessmen Pradeep Goyal and Jagjit Singh caused public outcry as it happened in the heart of the capital city of the country. The public pressure led to resignation of police commissioner and the case was handed over to CBI for investigation. The families of the victims were resourceful and not only they perused the case but showed extraordinary grit and determination against all odds to see the case reach a logical conclusion though it took ten long years. However in majority of encounter killing cases it is the police version that is fed to media and public. In connought place encounter killing too police initially maintained that they were fired upon and they tried to prove it by planting an old pistol next to dead and tampering even the forensic report. However their lies were nailed.
