India need vision to become super power
by sanjaygirijala on May 02, 2008 03:21 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This is a real threat to India...

India Governmant should take this very seriously and should leverage man power to compete with china rather than concentrating on power.

I request our Government to have Vision for next 10 years and stick to it at any cost.

They have only one vision " money show me the money"

Actually it might be an easy target for our enemies to just give huge bribes to elected reps and buy this country. Which anyway seems to be happening by the way some MNC's work.

the real indian people need to wake up and act for bettering our position, but our great leaders, are not ready to take the fast moving world on to their shoulders, as they are very old and finding that they are tired of doing public service, recent story of pm and fm raising hands for price rise of commodities, shows lack of interest in any more public service from them.

India hv a lots of internal problem and defence budget is very low compared to China and increased budget became useless due to inflation while in chine life is not easy for people, rules r strict and no one can oppose govt orders so they r capable developed now.
Actually we r paying the cost of democracy

Can China make it
by debojyoti basu on May 02, 2008 03:11 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Its quite impressive..the progress they are making is remarkable...but i think we have seen something like this in Hitler's Germany..Now the question is why this build up for?are they planning for some invasion?if yes then whom?US?India?Taiwan?Japan?Russia or the SE Asia? Can China attack any of this country in its own capacity?I don't think so..because the fallout of this attack wil be so severe that China in fact may break down like Soviet....Can China overrun any of its neighbours?OK lets take case by case...
Russia..Millitarily NO,economically NO,poltically NO
India....Millitarily-- can make some gains in the NE but ultimately will lose out,Economically..a big NO,politically...actually it itself can be defeated...
Japan,US,Taiwan....I am taking this three as one for obvious reasons...in this case also the answer is NO..so why Mr China why are u flexing ur muscles....No sir, we are not afraid by u..but the one positive thing that u are doing is uniting ur neighbours in to a single politico millitary entity...which will be much much more strongeer than probably u can think of....
God forbid u shud not engage into any conflict with US.. because in that case its true that millions of Americans will die...but one thing is for sure that there will be no single living being in ur land...
So don't waste ur hard earned money....

there is something in life called a strategic deterrent. its not wasting hard earned money.

by placing the submarines there, they are potentially defending a major shipping route used for carrying oil and other exports / imports.

by placing the submarines there, they are in a quick launch mode if they want. and since its close to deep water, it will not be detected easily.

its not necessary to acquire capability only to attack (though time may prove me wrong and say that this was meant to attack, and not defend)

the americans may want to think of such an idea in the event of a chinese affair with taiwan. but this base stops them from even thinking about such an idea - and thats EXACTLY my point "strategic deterrent".

pirates. not to block the lane, but to loot a vessel once in a while (it happens very regularly every month). do you know indian navy escorts select ships in the malacca stretch to protect them from pirates.

india wont block china's shipping lane. nor will any asian country. its not just china's lane - its the lane used by most vessels moving across asia.

king uncle, you are missing the point.

if india has progressed, so has china. what matters is the relative strength, and not just increase of india's capabilities.

thinking of all options does not make mr basu a coward. not thinking of all options makes a king a poor fool.

u r of the same camp.
I know the position and power of India butu know power is not everything . Take a example Iran is not bowing down against the US while they know that if the war bigins they will not stand more than 15 days but if accepts the US supermacy then all the resources would be captured.

Re evaluate Indian case.
With the kind of arsenal China has in it's armoury, it can very well destroy India Militarily ( Bitter truth ).
It already has many thousand Sq Km of Indian land in it's possession, doesn't matter that 'no blade of grass gows there' and has guts to openly stake claim on Arunachal Pradesh.
Economically, it is much much ahead of India, and in few years will give tough competion to India in IT sector also.
Politically they have strong presence in India thru their Communist Agents and has already circled it through China supportive neighbours. Pakistan n Now Nepal too have strong China leanings.
So, dear, biggest threat of China's arsenal is faced by India. let us accept it and better start preparing to counter it. Else, we will be living in fools paradise to our own peril.

Implications fir India
by Shubham Singh on May 02, 2008 03:06 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Though China's military capability is unknow to the world and only sneek peeks like this come our way all the time. China is ambitiously refurbishing its military capabilities and it has serious implications for India. Though India has an effective detterent capability against Chinese adventurism, still we need to keep ourselves on our toes. Our Naval and AF capabilites are having an edge over China and INDIA IS THE ONLY BLUE WATER NAVY IN ASIA TO OPERATE AN AIRCRAFT CARRIER.Still we need to increase our procurment and development both in time and effectivenesss.
ONLY THE STRONG COMMAND THE RESPECT

india is not the only navy to have an aircraft carrier in asia. globalsecurity's website lists thailand and south korea as having aircraft carriers. china already has a multi-role ship close to a carrier, and is contructing one themselves.

China's military might
by B Basu on May 02, 2008 03:00 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

China was once known for its largest army. It is to their credit that they have succeeded in raising a naval force (nuclear or otherwise). On the other hand they have also been able to manufacture fighter jets (J 11), albeit copying others. Not only have they made themselves an economic powerhouse, they also realised that military might is an integral part to being among the counted.
