Once again Congress has shown in UP politics that it is a most opportunistic party. The request of UP Govt (Headed by Ms Mayawati) for a CBI inquiry against Mr Mulayam Singh has been turned down only bcoz the equation betn Mayawati & Congress is not doing good anymore. This shows that now congress wants support of Mulayam (Who's terms with Congress was also not good till late). Mr Rahul Gandhi is a new man in. He should first concerntrate on party ideology & party ethics otherwise one day there would be no one to vote for Congress in UP.

I tried to figure the Sanghi aversion to use of Gandhi by the Nehru family. It oocured to me that Sanghis that they killed the Father of the Nation once for all point blank firing. Then by the quirk of fate they find the Gandhis their biggest stumbling block to capturing power even after 60 years of independence

In that case he has to start from first party worker, then corporation member next MLA/MP next State Minister.....last is PM. Congress should not project him as a PM candidate. It is bypass. All leaders like L.B.Shastri Sardar Patel, Murarji, Vajapayee all grown in a natural way.

Indian - Why is it in all other facets of life this rule does not apply - film, business etc. An Anil Ambani short circuits the process to head of his father's company at the outset of his career. We do not apply the rule Abishek Bachaan whether he took advantage of his parent's reputation estion as actors. Nor question whether either of Hema Malini's daughters deserve to be actresses on their own merit. We inherit property from our parents. Why not like them, we start from scratch? These are all pseudo arguments. The BJP also tried to capalitalize on the Nehru-Gandhi names by making Menaka and her son Varun as members of the party.

Mahavir - sure I understand democracy. I'm not sure you appreciate it fully when you seem to suggest that having a political parentage disbars one from carving out a political career. The choice is with the electorate. If one thinks that one fits the bill, they vote or otherwise reject them. If you think Rahul is dumb that is your democratic right. Others may disagree as the huge crowds who go ga-ga when the see him.

you are making a pointless debate pop head. when mahavir says there is adifference between democracy and kingdoms, he mean to say the choice at people's hand. are you trying to say that the post of chairman of reliance and india's PM are of same standard and importance ? how could you even make such an example. it just shows how ignorant you are about the facts. having political parentage is in no way an issue for someone to have a political career, but that doesnt mean a kid like rahul should become PM just because he has got a dirty surname ?

Simple Pop - the BJP wants to blunt Rahul's pedigree advantage so the rubbish his name. That does not stop BJP stalwarts to promote their own - e.g. Jaswant Singh. The BJP also took advantage of the Scindia name - now MP CM - do you think she would have reached that position without the Scindia tag.

Yes. It is the type of democracy in congress. Ragiv Gandhi was appointed as PM and then elected as the leader of the congress MP. It was an history in Indian Democracy created by Then President Gani jail singh and he was proud for that. It is also a mistry how the surname Gandhi creaped into the Nehru family.
