Well it is said that sitaji lived in kareela after leaving ayodhaya and a temple is built at that place. Every year a mela is organized there. It is believed that whatever you ask for is given by the devi and in return you have to gift something. For this there is a culture of having dance of 'bednis' (ladies whose profession is to dance) and there is a open show of liquor out there. Definetly this should be one of the reasons for this stampade out there.
Why such stampedes always occur in some religious gatherings? At Hajj, during Kumbh mela etc. Perhaps God makes sure all such people who sin 364 days a year and come to him one day for repenting don't go unpunished.

IT ALWAYS SHOW INDINDICIPLINE IN SUCH GATHERINGS IN COMMON PEOPLE. IF THEY GO IN QUEUED WAY THOSE WILL FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE AND HOOLIGANS ARE ALWAYS FIND SUCH OCCASSIONS FOR MAKING GOOD MESSUP.SUCH GATHERINGS ARE LIKED BY POLITCIANS WHO LIKE A HUGE MOB AROUND THEM AND ALTHOUH IN MOB THEY NEED SPECIAL TREATMENT. PEOPLE MUST LEARN TO GET DISCIPLINED AND HAVE CARE FOR OTHERS AS WELL AS OWN.
