The inquisition that is killing of so called "heretics" in public was carried out in Goa by the Portugese and in Europe by the Catholics and also in the New World (Americas) by the Spanish. The victims were native non christians as well as as those christians who were deemed to be rebels.

I suppose that you would prefer that the trial of non christians be termed a blasphemy trial. However the fact remains that a lot of the persons tried at the inquisitions were accused of believing in faiths other than Christainity.

hey what u know abt goa..... u know de religion - hindu, muslim, christianity... it doesn't mean u know de history...
It shows the fact that the nation is still in the hands of insanely influential and powerful political-mafia nexus. Isnt it that the well educated middleclass holds the key for a liberation from the clutches of these cannibals? A safe and pro-active step is to make sure that every person in this class exercises his/her mandate. That would make a big difference.
the point we are missing is that a young 15 year old girl was raped and killed. whether her mum was a bad parent, whether she herself was a drug addict, that is all immaterial. the most important thing is that 'mudre, most foul' has happened. and the worst is that the Goan government and its organs- the police, etc are busy covering up. it is an open fact that the drug mafia rules Goa.
%u201CI know it would not bring back my daughter to life but it would have saved generations of Goans who are getting trapped in the drug trade%u201D %u2013 this must be the joke of the year. Dear Fiona you could not educate your own daughter against the evils of drugs.
Although I regret the brutal death of young %u2018Scarlett%u2019, one very important point should not be missed, this girl herself was a drug addict and alcoholic. Infact the forensic report proved just that %u2018A deadly mixture of drugs and alcohol was one of the main reasons for her death%u2019. Why is Fiona making a huge fuss over all this , this is a classic case of Bad parenting. Newspaper reports have come in that Fiona was a convict and was jailed for a few months. I must add that the culprits behind this heinous crimes should be severely punished, but along with that these cheap foreign tourists who are the main reason behind the mushrooming drug trade should be kicked out.

Strong language! After all considering the status of our development and the currency exchange value Indians too would be classified as Cheap Tourists in developing nations.
Rather than solving the mysterious case of scarlett, the government and the police are busy trying to fix the blame on the mother of the deceased. This is really horrific and intolerable where a government is running away from the responsibility of providing security to every individual living under its rule. This is a tragic end of what a government of rule.

You are right. In a typical bureaucratic reaction each official is engaged in evading blame. The Home Minister says on TV that if Goa Police are seen to take bribe money in public then it is no wonder since Police in other nations is corrupt also (did not give any examples though). The Police Chief protects the Home Minister by saying that he or his son are not involved in the drug trade. The Chief Minister protects his Government by denying the need for a CBI enquiry. The Indian Public sits and watches this cover up since we are "used to it".
Charge of Bad Parenting also lies with GOA Government ....they have converted GOA into a land of smugglers and peddlers and shanty alcohol mongers in the name of tourism and easy looting.
its shameful that this country is not bothered to stop such menaces against the society becos the lawmakers include policemen, politicians who can go down to any level to earn money even at the cost of others life.we are more bothered about the victims character rather than arresting the culprits and stopping this socity from getting destroyed.learned people like Manmohan singh and APJ Abdul Kalam should look into the matter for the sake of the future of our society, getting destroyed by foreign drug mafias hand in gloves with policemen
As the saying goes "there is no smoke without fire", Fiona's statements are like smoke..find where the smoke is coming from...find where is this fire before it spreads!! Who ever she is, there is something to more than just meets the eye!! Other day, the Goa administration decided to stop music at 11pm and bar to be closed at 12 midnight. Is that a solution? Its such a childish decision!! Why arnt they try to find the root cause for all this?

dear friend, in our society no politician can be arrested and tried fearlessly, which is why childish decisions are taken, that atleast shows action taken on the part of the cops who are the government salaried goons of the political class. Wherever there is smoke the cops land first and put out the fire. This case is a clear one, it was a suicide for so many days that was a clear buyout of time for the political class to hide the skeletons and present an empty cupboard. The law makers act as if people do not know or understand and our people act as if this is happening in neighbouring pakistan that is the root of the problem. 5000 british could have been killed by our people but we let them rule, now 5000 people can still be killed by us but we vote them in.

Immediate corrective measures are needed. It is good that late night partying is being discouraged. The Police should implement late night patrols on all beaches and in the city and on highways if not done so already.
This is a shame on Indian democracy, justice and Parliament. Some one from Govt. should interfere in this and go for CBI probe. How come Congress is doing nothing in this regards. Congress people are fully involved in this drug case. Big ministers are involved and no one wants to stop the haftha paid by goons. This is biggest and very shameful lesson for Indian Govt. and its citizens. Think before you vote. Who are the people we are voting Thoese who earn money from drug mafia. Rediff is doing great thing by bringing us thew news. Some NGO should come forward and try to get CBI probe in this incident.

i agree, this is one of the black days in the country and i am afraid it may be just the begining. It was heart wrenching to see that a mother fighting for her daughter in an alien land and yet no one came to help her.It was also disgusting to see a minister instead blaming her for all that happened.Should not he have at least resigned to ensure a fair trial or we have lost that basic decency also?
only a day ago Taslima Nasrin also alleged similar treatment.Actually we people are so used to corruption and vote bank politics that we never really cared for it.This has made the corrupt governments more arrogant and now they are behaving in the same way towards the vistors also. But the hitch is now Indians all over the world will be looked down more than ever before and the country's reputation has been decimated to a new low
