Face the facts!
by shiva on Mar 20, 2008 06:42 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Many have rushed in with comments without understanding the basics. We should be more responsible though we remain anonymous behind the postings.

Correct me if I am wrong with solid facts. Tibet issue came to the fore in 1959 after the Tibetans rose against Chinese rule. Dalai Lama fled to India with over one lakh followers and established govt in excile. No country has recognised them. Dalai Lama wants only autonomy and not independence. To my best knowledge, these are the facts.

If we go beyond history, we will be left high & dry. Why provoke others when we have enough enemies within, I mean those who create problems by the dozen? I am sure we all appreciate tough action against trouble makers. In our democracy, our govt has to answer all & sundry to the extent even confirmed guilty go scotch free.

As much as we cherish our system, let us not interfere in others. All countries want the Olympics to go ahead. We will be like a sore thumb to shout from the rooftops without understanding the basics.

Let us not forget, we have many within us who will not flinch in getting outside help in formenting trouble. I do not think we can do much on the Tibetan issue except give some moral support. That will give us the high ground in telling others off when faced with similar problems from time to time.

We should take a hard & long look in the mirror. We have our flaws. Let us fix them than be a world policeman. We are not even a UNSC Permanent Member.

India is acting right.
by sharath kumar on Mar 20, 2008 06:29 AM  Permalink

India is doing the right thing by remaining a mute spectator. It has got nothing to with Tibet and its policies, the tibetians should be grateful to india for providing asylum to them and their leaders , for which we are already facing the wrath of china by its logistical support to nations which are anti India.I think its High time for Dalai lama to return to Lhasa and Obtain his nations independence as out Father of nation the great gandhiji did for us hope china grants you what you want.

India is Doing Right thing?
by sharath kumar on Mar 20, 2008 06:21 AM  Permalink

Sometimes the best thing to do in troubled times like these is to remain silently as a mute spectator, and India is doing right thing by not interfering with the Tibetians issue not to forget we have enough enemy's around us and we don't want to add one more to the list and there by make our country a burning cauldron.

Already we have done a great deal by providing asylum to the exiled tibetians and their spiritual leaders (for which we are faceing the warth of china by its logistic support to pakistan ) they should be greatful and should not demand anything more.

Whats the point of tibetians fighting now when all these days they were being ruled by the chinese even when they were buliding the railwya track they were silent and whats the point in raising your voice now.

Guys i have an advise for tibetians u dont meddle with indian affairs and try to drag us into your problem already we have enough problems of our own .If u really want independence ask your Spirutual leader to return to Tibet and gain independence in the same way as our father of nation " Gandhiji" did for us if not today atleast some day you may gain your independence.

ALL THE BEST

statement
by manas rawat on Mar 20, 2008 04:58 AM  Permalink

if India is not taking action atleast should make a official statement stating that they do not agree with the china's policy rather just sayin "its sad" remember Lhasa is not far from India today Lhasha...tommorw Half of uttrakhand then maybe delhi laterz..war baring backs country's economy but should release official statment from cabinet not supporting the way China is handling the situation...dalai lama has said again n again he doesnt even want freedom..they just want attorny so its a nice way to pack a deal but he has been called a "Jackal who wanna disrupt olympics" but china wants total control..so its time for India to make a stand but these are my views rest politicians think they doing a better job

Dear Samir

I can relate with your concerns. In the name of free speech one is able to dish out any nonsense including anti national and anti religious statements.
It is common to read here at Rediff hate and terror based mails that demean India and its people.
It has become a nesting ground to spead hate and racial vilification.
As for the tibet issue, thats an internal problem of China and no country has a right to interfere.
I guess for all those who support US attacks in Iraq, my question to them would be " would the US now attack China?
Hypocrisy and religious bias is the call of the day.
India must not involve itself in this issue.

would we like if Pakistan or any country interfere with Kashmir issue, what kind of statement you are loking for?
Politics is not for hot heads but for ratinal people who see diplomacy as an asset and not as a tool for cowardice.
Manmohan singh is a civilised person unlike the BJP goondas who live on votes for religious fanatic bigots.

my friend get a grip, insurgency and militancy was first created by india throuh there local agents ( mukti bhani)and RAW agents and then situation was created where india simply walked in to divide. Pak tried same thing in kashmir but we have media, west and hipocracy on india side that have bailed us out.
