We need to make a very strong statement... Instead of genuflecting like we did under Nehru and his successors (from both Congress and BJP)..We need to revive the Tibet issue by questioning the annexation of Tibet itself..and asking that Tibet be recognised. In the last step we should be prepared to formally recognise the Tibetan Govt in exile as a legitimate government..Though, the Chinese fifth column in politics and media ( I mean,Chindu, Beijing-NDTV, Italian Times, CNN-International Beijing News to still be loyal to their foreign masters

Why leftist not supporting Dalai Lama? but pls not make Olympics ransom for this movement. It's great game & tradition Chineese don't care about public opinion in swift motion they will wipe out this movement . Not like India , One road can not built for 10 years because one cattle house ( Tabela )was in between !!

Leftists are chine lapdogs. But I can see reason in the UPA government's handling of the Tibet issue - it's directly tied to Kashmir...
Will there be an end to chinese atrocities in Tibet? Will China ever give up territorial claims and let Tibet be? China is so unscrupulous that on the one hand it threatens Japan everytime a Japanese PM goes to the Kudanshita shrine whilst they kill Tibetans by the thousands even though it is Tibetans own country. Nice learnings they have had from Sudan. India! Time to stand up for the Tibetans.

Why don't u just shut up instead of poking your nose in other people's country. make the roads , electricity, etc better in your own country better first and then start thinking about others.
wow..... after reading these posts. It seems to me that indians are very violent ppl. you seem to worry too much about other country's problem rather than your owns.
the sports minister is advocating strong measure against china in cabinet meeting on the issue. he has advocated india not participate 100pct in the coming olympics in china, and make a measured cut like not send figure skating and gymnstic teams to olympic in china.

Dude that is a funny post :) On a serious note - Any Government will do what they perceive as greater good. No Government will risk the consequences of a being labeled an instigator/supporter of China's s "internal affair". China will pay in kind and that won't be pretty considering the hate mongering rhetoric we hear from Rediff readers. For sake of India we must cut our balls and shut up.
I can bet most Indians morally support Tibetan struggle. Tibet is historically independent. But just like no one stood up to Hitler till he invaded Paris, world will be mum to Chinese atrocities till they are directly affected.
India's silence over Tibet is a disgrace. It has never been decisive in foreign crises - a total amateur, never knowning how to react, who might be offended. In the Tibet case, India is obviously scared of China and has hurriedly confirmed that Tibet is part fo China. The same silence and prevarication was evident in the case of recent Burma crisis.
How opportunistic, unprincipled and muddled can one get !! A great power my foot !

I agree because of the lousy foreign policy and the coward leadership of India who are very busy dividing the states, people, religions, castes and whatever they wish to. they need the power and nothing else matters
yes, india is like an ostritch hiding her face into the ground. india did not make anything about the chinese claims on our own indian territory of arunachal pradesh, the chinks are never to be trusted, like they behave as if tibet is their own territory. be very very wary about these slit eyed wolves
Its high time to put China in place. Tibet should be an independent country and should be allowed to live as they want. India should work towards this and give moral support to the Tibetans.

what do you mean by putting China in place? is that a toy or a cot? forget china for a while. what happened with pakistan till now? did we reclaim PoK back? what do you think on that
India should Protest against the Chinese aggression agains the Tibetans, if it doesnt want to support Tibetans then send Back Dalai Lama... we shouldn be hideous and cowards we should take our stand and make it clear, China is expansionist and they would keep on doing this and this is the time for India to rock China otherwsie there will be time we illl have to fight for Arunachal Pradesh. India should definitely support Tibet, because one also should remember that china is using or planning to use Tibet as a launching ground against India over the border issue of Arunachal pradesh... Chinese government in not trustworthy, India governement thinks that China will just give up on Arunachal Pradesh if we dont protest against them. Tibet is the region which India should keep along its side to suppress any future aggression from Chinese on the Indian border so now its time to come in front and support Tibet.
In the 1909 essay, %u201CThe place of India in the Empire%u201D, the former British Viceroy, Lord Curzon of Kedleston writes, %u201CIt is obvious, indeed that the master of India, must, under modern conditions, be the greatest power in the Asiatic Continent, and therefore, it may be added, in the world. The central portion of India, its magnificent resources, its teeming multitude of men, its great trading harbours, its reserve of military strength, supplying an army always in a high state of efficiency, and capable of being hurled at a moment%u2019s notice upon any point either of Asia or Africa. All these are assets of precious value. On the West, India must exercise a predominant influence over the destinies of Persia and Afghanistan. On the North, it can veto any rival in Tibet; on the North-East and East it can exert great pressure upon China, and it is one of the guardians of the autonomous existence of Suam. On the high seas it commands the routes to Australia, and to the China Sea.%u201D
Why can the present people in-charge of our governments be more Curzonian and strengthen Indian military might? Why does India not de-recognize Tibet as part of China? Why can we not recognize the ROC (Republic of China) or Taiwan as a separate nation? The Chinese have a lot of soft points, and it is high time to press them. Remember this is no 1962 and Nehru no longer rules India!
