mrigank, That may be your mentality. When govt and police screw up in Western countries they get sued badly. That is the problem in India.

I think that this is wrong. We should appreciate her bravery. The typical Indian family in a similar situation would have brought their kids body back cremated her and forgotten about the whole thing.

Disgusting allegation against a mother, who has very bravely fought against the system and that too out of her country, to do what should have been done without effort on her part. Situation exists because of the likes of the author of this reaction message to the news

you have hit the nail right. the mother must be given all credit. my appeal to goan people..look after yyour interests..say no to drugs and rowdism by politicians and all sorts of bad things that can ruin your paradise. goans earn the highest income because of the foreign tourists...forget india save goa for yoursleves. make the administration responsive, especially the law enforcers. it is clear that the local police are the culprit.come into the street and rotest..highlight in the international press...only shame can drive the point home for us indians. god bless brave moms .

do u expect from the indian govt to depute a cop with every tourists who come here for the sake of pleasures??the girl was in atroxication and the mom was also in sam epath. the death of the girl was due to drug ,has been already proved. a mother who could not stiop her teenage to sllep with strange is a great failure and suspecious too. she should be procecuted.

Of course no mom would want her teenage wandering off to a foreign land alone for so long. But teenagers can be very hard headed sometime, especially western teenagers. So without knowing the whole story, I wouldn't automatically blame her parents imho

Rape and Murder of a British girl.
by suman maheshwari on Mar 12, 2008 06:47 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

To be fair to both sides, lets agree that Indian Police is coorupt and is meant only for people with influence or people with money. But on the other side the lady should have thought of NOT leaving her teenage daughter alone in Goa more so when even in their own country , the children are NOT left alone at night, also she must be aware of the problems in Goa. She is equally to be blamed.

we talk about ''athithi daiva bhava'' and also want people cming to our country to take care of themselves. the question isnt about the mother's irresponsibility but police corruption. as simple as that. what happened happened, but justice should have been done.and this is the time for goa to clear the place of drugs and marauding ''proud goans'' once and for all. show zero tolerance to drugs. the goan policce know everything like indian police anywhere in india but use the information for thier own good.it is time that the goan people come forward and get the place cleaned/cleared for thir own good.wake up and get heard.

its all rubbish when you say that mother shouldnt have left a 15 year old girl or allowed her to go to any foreign land. i live in UK and 15 year olds here are considered to be grown ups and parents slowly and steadily start tranferring responsibility onto them. they start earning by this age and start managing their own funds. its not like us who linger onto our parents untill their death(honestly speaking we dont hv much choice either but anyway).
only thing i wanted to say that it must have been her own desicion and its normal that parents in western world avoid being judgmental.

She was a guest here. We always boost of our 'superior culture'........ now where is the culture when a defenceless 15 year old is raped and murdered ? Is this Indian justice.

Your millions of girls killed wont make head line in New York or London but a foreigner killed in India will because it has to got to do with international tourism.

International people want to know

IS INDIA SAFE ?

DOES JUSTICE EXIST IN INDIA ?

Doctor spills the beans on Goa police's cover-up
by Nirpinder Singh on Mar 12, 2008 06:46 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It boils down to faulty education. We ourselves teach our children to disrespect education. Nepotism starts early in life for all Indians. A lot of our schools charge obscene amounts of money for admitting children to Kinder Garten even. Many perhaps all Catholic Church run schools are included in this category. The parents who pay this illegal "donation" are generally the ones who will go to any length to pamper their kids and protect them even if they go wrong. Foreign tourists come to India since it is a cheap holiday place. However Indian youngsters who see them do not realize that they are behaving in a way that is alien to and prohibited in our society. The Indian kids think that since foreigners are doing it (late nights and drinking and drugs) then it is OK for them too. The Society and Police both need to educate youngsters and tourists about local sensibilities and acceptable modes of behaviour.

Why are we making her death so big issue when hundreds of indian girls are killed every day
by Shekhar C on Mar 12, 2008 06:36 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Why ? So many indian brides are killed for dowry

So many women in india are raped and killed

Instead of that - media is focusing on death of one foreigner - this shows that we are still slave of foreigners

That's because they have to answer global media for this incident. Hey, how about outsourcing our entire police system to Americans or British or someone neutral. Good both ways, no? They'll stop complaining about India just taking away their jobs but not giving them jobs; and we get (hopefully & most probably) people with some backbone and pride in their work!!!

My dear friend you are 200% wrong. The dying of 100 Indian Girls in India is different from a foreigner killed in India. Foreigners are coming to India with a high respect to the tradition of India and We people are behaving like rouges by teasing them. Why didn't you fight so far for your Indian sisters who are being raped & killed?

friends try to understand other culture, She is british or any other european doesn t mean easy girl, Sometimes they come to look for love and we dogs btray them and make a bad history about us. Once I read books written by some french there are many like that, and they clearly mentioned in that book that how one indian tried to snatch a girl the same way Ravana did to Seeta Maiya. Are we turning into a ravana once our Lanka is getting golden. Please Respect and never force a girl. Understand their culture. Create good image of India. Take them to good places , good bars, good libraries good eateries and make our civilization stronger and stornger. And befriend a friend of ur age rather 35 years and 15 year girl. avoid minor girls while going for white skin hunting. Ask age. If she seems interested take them in confidence and if possible make love. Be understanding about other culture plse

Can't just blame the police. They are being controlled by the ruling party which makes the laws. We put goons in such power. They are all part of the community. Unless the judicial system is reformed, and an independent Police Commission is formed; the corrupt system will continue. It's an open secret but who's taking out morcha or agitating against that?...

I think our history is littered with examples of 'honest' officers who were shunted out to timbuktu or something even worse for doing what they thought was their duty!
