Since a long time, there has been suggestions of making Mumbai a separate state or union territory. THis will tremendously benefit Mumbai, and also the rest of the country. Mumbai has a tremendous potential, which unfortunately was never tapped, coz of poor administration and poor infrastructure. As a result, Mumbai is losing out to new-emerging cities, like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Gurgaon, Noida etc. If, Mumbai is separated, then everyone, including Marathis, will benefit, coz, then, there will be serious attempts to make Mumbai, into a world-class city, like Singapore/newyork etc. Being the financial-capital of India, the state of mumbai is shameless. We need to act now, or Mumbai will definitely lose out, in this new era of 'Growth' and 'Globalisation'. And speaking of Marathis Vs. Non-marathis, pls note that, even Marathis are immigrants in Mumbai, coz, the original inhabitants, were Kolis, who are in minority now. Also, before independence, Maharashtra and Gujarat were ONE state. It was at that time, that Gujaratis, developed Mumbai into a business hub. After independence, Mumbai went to Maharashtra, coz of its physical-proximity to the 'new' maharashtra state. We are Marathis ...have that capacity...but these UP and Biharis have capacity to Create Mumbai as UP and BIHAR !
