The reason for the absence of our honourable leaders at the funeral is simple. The field marshal did not represent a pressure group/caste outtfit/religious minority/mony bags.Homage to him would not have fetched any votes even in the local elections.
I think there are very few Indians who have commanded respect, adoration and goodwill in our country. Very few people have electrified India with their presence, morality and integrity. In this list are Sam Bahadur and Dr.Kalam. Considering the absolutely shameless way our leaders have treated Sam Bahadur, I hope better sense prevails in our treatment of Dr.Kalam and other brave sons of India. Jai Hind.
Its not merely where you die, but of the immediate utility value to those who matters. It only shows the depths to which our civil society and even Armed forces have gone. Nothing would have prevented the Army chief from cutting sort his Russian visit and rushing to Ooty or its impossible to believe that our RM did not have even 6 hours to pay respect to Sam. Or even Doordarshan could have been directed to give more coverage. All these sends wrong message not only to our Armed force personnel but also other civil servants.
The end came at ripe age of 94 but we cannot forget his contribution to the defence of the country. A tall man (in guts and leadership)who could advise the iron lady (former prime minister of India) not to strike in east pakistan then immediately but littled later when the Indian forces were ready to strike for the win and the gracious pm azgreed. The result was Indian forces under his leadership and planning triumphed and liberated Bangladesh in October 1971. Politician may have ignored his passing away but the people of India can never forget him and his achievement. Salute to this valian soldier. May his soul rest in eternal peace. SSbatish
Anybody could have done what Manekshaw did - I do not want to lower the dignity of a departed person but what is so big about him. He just did his job.

Mr. Anand being in the armed forces is not your regular 9-5 job(which am sure u must be great at!) tat u talk of it so lightly. For the kind of intergrity,discipline,dedication, passion Mr Manekshaw has shown towards his country, u cant even dare to write what you have written. If he was just doing his job...we shud hav had plenty of Manekshaws n tat includes u too.If tat was the case then we wudnt hav a certain Mr. confused soul called Anand Kirsh writing the crap as to anybody cud hav done what Manekshaw did. Do learn to respect people who deserve respect...else it shows how much respect u deserve.
