How to bear with this nation..
by Master Comments on Jun 28, 2008 06:18 PM  Permalink

Widespread poverty, regionalism, intolerance...
11.5 % inflation, crashing share markets, rising interest rates...
traffic jams, mobile network jams,
Jaipur Bandh, "Rajdhanis bandh",
Drains choked, nostrils by the pollution choked,.. road rage, "local train rage",

We have enough of these things to think over.. to occupy our lives.. How do we worry about our soldiers ? a retired one at that..!!

GOSH... where are we heading as a nation?

Sam Bahadur was a great soldier.. He probably has done a service to the nation even in his death. At least we all know that we all have to WAKE UP!!

SALUTATIONS TO FIELD MARSHAL SAM BAHADUR, ALL RETIRED AND SERVING OFFICERS AND SOLDIERS OF THE ARMED FORCES..

We do not respect people whom we need to
by guruji on Jun 28, 2008 06:15 PM  Permalink

In Tamil Nadu the CM will sit in some film award function for all the three/four hours and give lecture on Sethu Samudram as skimpily clad actresses dance to popular tunes.

You're right
by MKM GEN on Jun 28, 2008 06:12 PM  Permalink

Krishna, I share your angst completely - we're surrounded by hostile neighbours on all sides, yet we show so little respect for our soldiers. It's a crying shame ! The only issues that agitate the voting classes (contrasted with the chattering classes)in India are caste and religion. The Field Marshall was above these; hence, the politicians did not find time for him. Sad ! We are an ungrateful nation.

Declining Standards in Indian Army/Defence
by manav bakshi on Jun 28, 2008 06:05 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Field Marshal Manekshaw was the only General along with Lt gen JS Aurora who gave India decisive victory in 1971.
The generals/marshals/admirals of today's generation(Year 2008) have shown no promise. .They are confined to thier HQ's and are only bothered about their perks and obtaining post retirement benefits from Govt.
Field Marshal Manekshaw was a 'professional military soldier'not a carrerist military officer whose sole aim is only promotion and becoming slave to senior officer's.
Field Marshal Manekshaw had the courage to stand up to political leaders and make his voice heard.
Today lot many reports are emerging in media about corruption among General rank officers. The present Army chief is not taking corruption seriously.

Admiral Vishnu Bhagwat stood up against the political establishment and was sacked.
Right or wrong.. he had the courage to defy.. The standards are NOT declining. We still have only 2-3 candidates getting selected amongst 75-80 in 1 batch for officers' selection. But the past few years have been very crucial..at the rate the pay commissions are paying defence people, the standards would no doubt dilute...if you pay peanuts, you will get monkeys!!
