Great Shame!
by selvaraj thangam on Jun 28, 2008 06:30 PM  Permalink

Wonderful article. I share your feelings. This is a great shame! Even I was wondering about this after reading the news about his funeral in the newspaper. He was a wonderful person and did contribute to the nation in a great way and did bring nation the honor of victory, etc. When I was reading about his life in newspaper, I questioned myself, “Will I be able to live this kind of respectful and honest life?”

I too share my angst
by Pradip Rabindranath on Jun 28, 2008 06:27 PM  Permalink

Well Said! every word in the article anguishes me. I was 8 or 9 years in 1971 but I still remember the battles. These men and women you have mentioned have seen it in the prime of their youth. Maybe with the talks going on with the Pakis; they might have thought it not prudent to attend this Great Man's funeral. What a shame and what hypocracy! I cannot say enough to condemn their absence.

However it is people like us who should echo our sentiments and pass on messages;men of power have their own exigencies. Please do visit his place of memorial the next time you visit Ooty and make his legend live on in that Hill Station - a place that has become too commercialised nowadays .

Jai Hind!

Pradip

Politicians
by Ravi on Jun 28, 2008 06:22 PM  Permalink

Today's politicians are all corrust from head to foot, they have no thought for the country or progress of poor man, they only thinking the interest of billioners, big industrialists benefits.
They want Bharat Ratan awards, but non of them are liable for this award than Gen. Manekshaw who stood firm over the wrong decisions of iron lady Madam Indira Gandhi. Every country man is saluting the departed soul whereas these politicians are making their tactics for the elections and thinking how they can rob Indian people and in which way. Its pitty of our country that our country is not having elite politicians, most of the politicians are garbage from the mud, intially when they have nothing they should public they are honest and good once they become MLA,MP or minister they eat animals feeding also in corruption.
How could our country will become Superpower? Its big question, with so many cancers which taking this country backfoot.

Our Country is of crook politicians & bureaucrats
by Amitabh Gupta on Jun 28, 2008 06:22 PM  Permalink

No doubts India is at its peak so far as the crook/wicked politicians and greedy bureaucrats are concerned. No morality left. Why to blame politicians only ...media equally responsible..newspapers and magazines full of only news related to film hero/heroines and tax evading industrialists. Only they find top coverage. There is picture of Abhishek & Aishwarya almost daily in Times of India ...guess .. A.B. sponsoring TOI ?. In such a society where does one have time to attend funeral of Sam Manekshaw ...the forgotten hero( ?) ..wish he was the hero of Indian movies...so that more knew him and ...Our President is busy here at Indore inaugurating all the petty functions and blocking all the traffic since last 2 days and causing chaos .Who is Sam..? She does not know...Mera Bharat Mahan..
