I totally echo the sentiments,Its utterly disgraceful,somebody who inspired an entire generation to get out of its depression after the Chinese Debacle gets a treatment like this ! I remember a few years back in U.S some 2 or 3 frontline soldiers had died fighting in Iraq and lo ! behold the entire nation was there to receive the bodies with all the major channels covering the event and that too for soldiers who had done may be 5 to 6 yrs of military service and here in contrast a FIELD MARSHAL who led India to its greatest trimuph in post independence india being subjected to a lowly funeral ! AN absolute unpardonable shameless act on the part of the political class !! May be they identify with the fixers ,the wheeler dealers,the hustlers MORE and thats why they are prompt in attending their funerals. I am not surprised at the conduct of the service chiefs as they seem to have no brain of their own and are a bunch of spineless sycophants whose only aim is to get a good post retirement option like governorship,ambassadorship or for more enterprising a defence equipment trading company to loot the nation. I am sure even the old bahadur would not have liked to see such scum at his funeral !! The Govt is busy fighting those leftist idiots and hence have become one itself...as they say if you live long enough among the donkeys then you are bound to imbibe their traits and brains !!!!... I dont agree with your argument, because on the whole the total %of voting will be 60% and in that the person who gets elected gets a maximum of 40%, then how does it becomes my act when he commits a mistake.

Why the 40% not making to the polling booth. Especially the educated mass. I agree 5% to 10% may not be able to make it to the polling booth. Why not others to use their vote as the weapon to fight against these anti national netas. Dont they have any responsiblity or any one stopped them voting.
generally for the 40% voters voting day is just one more rest day or earned holiday.

My initial reactions were the same as expressed in this article for one because Sam was amongst few heroes, the others being Cariappa & Thimayya. But on a second thought I realised he did not want the spineless people named in this article anyways. He was larger then life and didn't need these minions to mourn him. Sam is not dead as soldiers like him don't die, they just fade away. Let us not be bothered by these no ones. If we truly love Sam let, us be like him, honest, dedicated, sincere, brave, forthright, laughing in worst circumstances, witty and full of life and let these jokers do what they want to. Sam, like Lady Diana, was a people's prince who was loved whereever he went. He didn't need the establishment to endorse this.
Tears roll down my eyes as I hear of the news and read of the feelings of my fellow countrymen for "Sam Bahadur" Field Marshall Sam Manekshaw.
I am reminded of one very touching song from the early 1990's sung by one of Assam's greatest sons, one of the great singers of India - Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. It goes something like:
" .... Gangey janani nava Bharat mein, Bhishma roopi suta samara jayii, Bhishma roopi suta samara jayii, janati nahi ho kyun..."
(O mother Ganges why don't you any longer produce warrior sons like Bhishma (of Mahabharata)"
I guess Sam was the last one (Bhishma roopi samara jayii) that she produced....

Dear Friend, U R absolutely right!!Majority of us Indians are cunning, selfish,greedy, crooked mentally, and they are great to blame others!! Only if a stupid person who has been only doing acting throughout his life, dies, then tears shall roll from these peoples eyes. Only if some person who throughout his life has been chasing and hitting balls any category childs game, if this person passes away, one will find majority of our netas and similar people mourning!!Nobody cares for our real heroes, who are guarding our country's borders day in and day out, even sacrificing their life, so that we are safe in the country, so that we can enjoy all the luxuries we get, and also dance and beer bars etc!! ,and eventually the men who guard the borders for us,their children and family have to suffer!!Majority doesnt care for them! U see majority of our attitude is also like our Netas!! That is why majority elects them!!
My head hangs in shame as I read the lack of respect for one of the bravest sons of India. As rightly pointed out we are a nation that lacks any nationalistic feeling, any true leaders and any idealism, inspiration and courage to recognize. Our poliicians and bureaucrats hardly contribute to the nation's wealth, they have no proof of their merit in their selection, they have no policy making ability either to control inflation or give education and livelihood to the poor. Could they not at least follow the protocol? could they not show their minimal respect to the real contributors to the nation. How long will the common worker do, a common soldier give his life and those in the corridoors of power take the credit. Alas how will they know! they have never heard the shelling or faced the bullets. They have only signed the ex-gratia cheques for the dead. Shame on the people we elect,shame on the heads of forces who may abhorably be under the thumb of politicians. Shame on us to have elected and selected these people. Sam Bahadur had nothing to prove, but he did prove even in his death that it is only a few brilliant, a few selfless servers who are carrying the burden of this teeming billion that is India. Salutation to this great soul. i was a kid remembering the black and white photos of the Bangladesh war and the Gnats fighting the Sabres when Sam Bahadur was making my life safe. Just drop of tear for him... Sumit Mitra.
