IN INDIA IT IS VERY COMMON TO TREAT PEOPLE LIKE SLAVES IF THEY ARE POOR SINCE NONE INCLUDING PRIME MINISTERS WOULD TAKE INTEREST IF THE PERSON INVOLVED IS HAVING LOOTED CAPITALS TO CALM THE GOVT EVEN IF THE GODS INTERFERE IN THE CASE AND GIVES CLEAR INDICATIONS MANY TIMES TOGETHER NOR RECOGNISED BY ANY ORGANIzATIONS SO FAR

Mindset needs to be changed!
by Vish on Jun 27, 2008 07:39 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I think, Indians needs to change their mindset towards their domestic help, maids, employees and subordinates. We have even shitty attitude towards laborers, rickshaw pullers and other lower economic class workforce too. I My blood boils to see hard-working agricultural laborers being exploited. They do 24x7 back breaking jobs. Worst among worst are migrant labor who come to Punjab and Haryana.

Just keep in mind, they're doing their job and we've not bought them. They have rights and limits. We need better legal protection for them. Also, they need to organize.

Not surprising
by Bhaumik on Jun 27, 2008 05:05 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This is exactly the way familes like Varsha's treat their servants/ subordinates in India or abroad. They know no other way. It is a desease.

They are hippocrites who go and sit in Art of Living Classes, perform poojas, and sing bhajans in bhajan groups. They are very very religous.

But inside they are illiterate primitives hiding terrible inferiority complexes.

Torture and derison are the only way they can relate to their subordinates. They are very spiritual.

US government have to rethink about visa programs.
by Common Indian on Jun 27, 2008 05:04 PM  Permalink

Lots of american indians are sponsor visas to the people who are ready to work on a very small amount. Thus one can see that lots of bodyshopping companies have become fastest growing companies in US. They take advantage of visa programs. As soon as employees arrive here they start threatening them and show them fear of US law. All the visa programs are being misused by these people including H1B,H2B etc. This was a perfect example of this. They make them sign harsh contract and show the fear of law here. US government should rethink of the visa programs. This has also convayed the maessage to all those sponsors and employees. If employees are facing any trouble they should approch police fearlessly. And employers should also understand that their employees are human being and not the machines.

It is sad
by Calspadeaspade on Jun 27, 2008 05:01 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Any society that depends on house hold servants is bad. That is why in this century western nations are far superior to Asian, South American and African society. It is realy sad that children who should be playing and studying have to become servants and get ill treated. In that process they become hard hearted and domestic murders take place. Child labour should be baned and parents who engage their children in it, GOvt should take away their children. REligious Gurus should preach people that to have children when you can not feed is a sin. People who ill treat children sre demons.

The religious gurus (of all hues) thrive of the numbers. Some religions explicitly prohibit adoption of family planning and ask their followers to have maximum number of children. However such religious are no where to be seen when the families face financial hardships.

Hats off to white man
by ganesh shyam on Jun 27, 2008 04:45 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

India shud learn from this & probably India would have been like this if British continued to rule in a civilized way...No corruption/influence in justice atleast as white man has proved time & again that Justice is of paramount importance than God but we Indians live on her past glory of culture crap...

You producing lot of smoke with no fire.

British treated their servants (?) with dignity, far better than the 'upper' classes in treated the 'lower(?)' classes.

Think for yourself.

Your reaction is typical middle-class stuff.

Mr. ganesh shyam, Pl read books like "Coolie" and "Two Leaves and a Bud" by Mulk Raj Anand. Also "A Passage to India". There was no limit to the atrocities committed by the Britishers in India and other colonies. If they were so good as you are portraying, there would not have been any "freedom struggle" at all.

Dude..past is past man....Brits treated us like shit at that time..By the way the rules were not that strict 50yrs back..I dont think they will do this kind of treatment in the 21st century.. that is for sure.....and now every white person knows everyone is equal in front of law and no one will be spared from justice. So Defenitely on the law and justice side..whites are far far ahead of desis...and I cannot imageine they bring the same kind of mistreatement of the house maid attitude to other countries and still expect to show a blind eye for the shit you do...

Indian papers must highlight this news. Even employers here in India should mend their ways. Indian domestic helps have been facing similar situation here and in middle east.

RE:indians and slave labour
by JGN on Jun 27, 2008 03:04 PM  Permalink
Mr.Rhazes Ashrawi, such things happen in other countries also. This month's Reader's Digest has an article about a 12 years old girl from Egypt (a country following the divine laws and most merciful creator!!!!!!!) sold to a couple from that country whoo migrated to USA, for 30 USD a month and the hard-ships she had to undergo in US at the hands of her employers. The girl has been rescued and the couple is awaiting punishment (smilar to the case under discussion). She even refused to talk to her father due to his inhuman treatment.

Mr.Atheist,if a person commits a crime ,would you accuse the legal system for that?

One doesnt become a muslim by birth,he becomes one by following islam.I remeber some time back you quoting muslim honor killings to some how suggest honour killing is part of islamic belief system.I argued that it is the influence of bad culture, now you would have seen so many honour killing within especially asian communities regardless of being a Muslim, sikh or Hindu

I had never written anything about "muslim honor killings" I had mentioned the case of Mukhtar Mai (that too was reported in Reader's Digest about 6 months back)when one Mr. Balaord was waxing eloquent about his religion.

If the nature of human-beings cannot be changed even in countries following the "divine laws" for more than 1400 years, forget about reforming the "kafirs"! Pl read the article "Is god a plain dope" at Postive Atheism. Also visit the web of "Actual Freedom - the third alternative" to know more about the basic reasons for the human-behavious and how to over come that. This is an alternative to organized religions.

honour killing by the followers of any religion (whether Muslim, sikh or Hindu) is an obnxious practice. The law of the land should be respected by all. I do not hold any brief to defend any religion.
