by Guest on Jun 28, 2008 01:19 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Mai I request rediff.com to get the recording/s of Field Marshal Manekshaw on Leadership and put it on rediff?
To start with, they can upload the recording which Major General Eustace D'Souza is having with him.

Salute to a great hero- Field Marshal S Manekshaw

He made the country proud and our PM, President and the defence minister could not find time to attend his funeral. But if there is a small household function at Karunanidhi's place they would have camped in Chennai 5 days before the event!
WE are an ungrateful nation with peculiar priorites

May be it would be great to have them in a moraly courapt society who blame for anything and everything to some oneelse. And it may serve a bit of purpose to today's materlistic society and youth who knows nothing but drunj driving and money chanse thru call centres

Why you salute Sam? What was so great of him? There are so many soldiers who died in the war. You salute them. Sam being Army chief and having experience in so many wars, he took seven months for preparation! Really absurd.

Dear Dineash,
It seems you are from this generation of crop where the country has lost its sense of National Pride. Its probably not your fault. The bunch of people whom you see as our present day leaders , irrespective of their party affiliation do not have a direction for upliftment of society/national gain; all their activities are directed towards ensuring more power and thus promote their vested interests- hence you do not have any respect or admiration for them . They do not make you proud...maybe they disgrace you most of the time. No parent today exemplifies great men like Gokhale,Tilak, Savarkar, and many more to their chilren , like our parents did.A few dazling Malls, Retail centres, the glitterity of lumos , 10-lane expressways , a couple of Pokhran , do not make a Nation great. Its the dedication and love for the country of our people , our politcians , our Armed Forces, do make our Nation great. Sam performed his duties with utmost honesty and diligence - Shivaji, Mahatma Gandhi,Subhas Bose and the millions of matyres and leaders of the pre-independence era aroused the Nation to fight and throw out foreign subjugation from out country and spread the messege " its our country and we shall rule it" - made them greatthat makes him great. Sam's dedication and dutyful rederation of his assignment and selfless patriotism made him great.Do read a little about our history of patriots as well as the betrayers - you will get a hang of our glorious past and disgraceful pre

What was so great abot manikshaw?
by Dinesh on Jun 28, 2008 12:47 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Manikshaw was asked for the war in April'71. He took seven months for preparation. And finally he was ready only in Dec'71. So what was so greatness in him? Any Army chief would have done it. If he was so great, he should have been ready for war when he was asked for or he should not have taken so much time for preparation.

Our politicians are dirty no doubt. But at the same time our army also not in good position. In army front, we should be always ready to face any attack. If we want to start attack, we should not take more than a month for preparation. If we follow sam's strategies, we will take seven months for preparation. This is absurd. There are so many better strategies in the world available now to be ready for any type of war. So his strategies are outdated.

Dear friend ... the greatness lies in knowing when to act .not about foolishly getting into trouble morover putting others in to trouble. It was a time when there was no body who could stand up to Indiara Gandhi.

anyway it is an incident which is reported ... not particularly praising him for not ready for action in april.

The concept of 'country' and patriotism is needed to fuel war with young men's blood. That is the main reason most of the politicians are against globalization. They are afraid that the whole world become one country. And man made borders would vanish.
