Sam The great Soldier`s Chief
by santhosh kumar on Jun 02, 2014 12:50 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I personally remember a lots about Filed Marshal Sam. Once he was driving and saw a soldier returning from home after annual leave, carrying his luggage's on his shoulder, FM sam stopped his car, asked the soldier to board and left him at his unit barracks. And once after the Bengal war, FM sam was standing in his balcony and from his home he can easily view his men living room. One day late evening while his men were celebrating after a hard rout march, he got a call from Chief Secretory who complained about his men being noisy and troublesome to neighbors. He politely yet friendly said Sir, Its my men and they know their limit and its time for them to forget all their pains and sufferings So there is no way I can stop them from this.He was a great Chief who took care of men under his command.I salute the great chief Field Marshal Sam

Sam Manekshaw's name misspelled in the article
by ratul ghosh on Jul 03, 2008 02:18 PM  Permalink

"He had a sense of humour, sometimes it backfired. Once a remark in Patiala offended the royal family there. Wherever I took that CD of the leaders, and asked people of the 6 who impressed you most -- 100% it was Sam Mankeshaw. He used to get a standing ovation."

Sam Manekshaw's name misspelled in the above quoted paragraph.

it is foolish to think that Sam expects national mourning on his death. Foolish ppl vl think so. A person who sacrifices his life for the country vl never think of such honours during his life or on his death. For ppl like him these a tiny part of life... pls do not write anything on board which Sam wud hav expected ever in his life. a national mourning.....

Well this is not true.I'm not affiliated to any political party but strongly beleive that if the top brass BJP leaders felt so strongly about Sam's contribution to the Indian Army, they could have attended the funeral whether or not the ruling govt.officials participated or not.It probably would have acted as an eye opener and reflected on leadership quality of the individuals or parties for being unbiased appreciators of our deserving valliant sons.

Why are we so distraught that the politicians did not come to the funeral of the most celebrated army officer of our country? Wont Sam Bahadur forever live in our cherished memories...his epitaph would be in our minds and hearts....we dont need the sticky fingers and hands of our politicos to disgrace his national flag draped body....BHARAT MATA KI JAI, KI JAI, KI JAI!!!

Mr.Mitra ,

It is not a question of anyone caring whether Sam's funeral was attended by a few baffoons. The question is that India, being one of the biggest democratic nations of the world , must have its priorities right - the entire nation is not criticising the govt. attitude for no reason. Wisdom does not lie in the brains of a few who steer the nation from Delhi but with those millions who hold our defence services in very high esteem , our heart aches for every soldier who lays down his life at the boarder in war or peace times ; we feel the pangs of his kins and we are always by their side.

Can any one tell-till date any politicians sons or daughters had laid their lives in defending the Nation?. They only know to loot and khasot the country. There is hardly any difference between our present day leaders and the Pindaries during British Rule. At least the dacoits of Chamble have some principles but none by our Politicians-particularly of Congis, AAP and Commies etc. We salute the Ist Field Marshal of the Indian Army-the great Sam. I salute him from core of my heart.
