National Heroes
by Fried Yakov on Jun 28, 2008 06:46 PM  Permalink

I know that Field Marshall Maneckshaw is one of those true national heroes who are revered by people from all waks of life- irrespective of their political and communal affiliations. But in this great country can we not produce even more of such heroes and national icons who shall help rid us of the corrupt politicians who rule the roost now. I hope and pray that the soul of the indomitable soldier rest in peace and appeal to our countrymen to rise above their selves and the occasion to produce more such fine gentlemen and national icons- so that 'nature may rise up and say- he was a man'.

Tribute
by rohit berry on Jun 28, 2008 05:22 PM  Permalink

I never knew much about FM Maneksaw, other than what I read in newpaper reports. But, even from those small reports one could make out the greatness and humility of the man. May his soul rest in peace. And a small prayer for the bereaved family, May God give them strenght to endure such a great loss.
Jai Hind Manekji

INDIANS are Self Concerned Only FACTS:-

2.They will Shamelessly Harm Railways of 7000 Crores for Proving themselves most BACKWARD

3.Muslim Indians will actively participate in Cremation of Terrorists & Muslim crinminals gunned down by Police

4...BECAUSE THEY GIVE VOTE TO SHAMELESS POLITICIANS OF CONGRESS, SP , BSP , Communists ,SHIV SENA ETC CRAP SENAS, NCP ,AIADMK , MIM ,bla bla....in return of short term gains like few Reservations here & there , any miniscule Financial Aid, Illegal Colony & land Regularisation etc

The Congress is a party of darbaris, whose allegiance is to the Family, and only the Family, not the country. A sterling soldier, a shining icon to generations, even at the age of 94, and they could only depute a mere minister of state for his funeral.

It's really strange that the Defence Minister, Mr. A K Antony could not find time for India's best-loved soldier. Funny, when you can see these darbaris commandeer helicopters and state aircraft to rush to Delhi, when the Italian Signora crooks her little finger.

The Service Chiefs too have no excuse; the demise of Field Marshal Manekshaw could be
foreseen. You had daily reports coming in of his declining health. They could have ensured that at least ONE of them was there to represent the forces. These are symbolic gestures which carry a lot of meaning.

I wonder with what moral authority the Service Chiefs will address their juniors, when the man reporting to them will know that his commander is a man who could not find the time/opportunity to pay due respects to one of India's most cherished heroes. All the explanations/ clarifications through press releases will simply reinforce the perceived sense of discourtesy.

Indo-PAK War, 1971; FM Sam / Cap. Mulla - our salute
by Ramesh Rastogi on Jun 28, 2008 04:33 PM  Permalink

Our salute to the bravest son, SAM BAHADUR of India. The day Pakistan Gen. Niazi surrendered to our forces in Dhaka in Dec. 1971 under the leadership of SAM is still fresh in mind. It also brings back the sad memory of sinking of our ship INS KHUKHRI and along with him our brave Captain Mulla and other officers and sailors along with him by Pakistani Navy

Sam Bahadur's felicitation in Kolhapur --- a fond memory.
by Nobinkumar Pradhan on Jun 28, 2008 02:54 PM  Permalink

Soon after the 1971 victory, Sam Manekshaw was felicitated in Kolhapur and I had the privilege to see him from close quarters. The citizens of Kolhapur turned up in huge numbers and many had to be turned away. His speech in Hindi was simple, direct and yet very enthralling -- touching and at times, very humorous. In a friendly way ,he had digs at the late Lt.General Thorat who hailed from Kolhapur.I am certain that many Kolhapur-citizens who had attended this function that day will mourn his death with misty eyes.Rest in peace, Sam Bahadur, the braveheart.

we salute you sir
by chendil on Jun 28, 2008 02:42 PM  Permalink

your place is there up among gandhiji, sardar and rajaji. Our political dynasties are nepotism personified that is why rahul gandhi is assured of a bharat ratna by birth, and you who would have willingly laid down your life ,like your comrades in the army, for the sake of a million unknown indians, have not been given your due. Go peacefully knowing that in the hearts of millions who know right, that you are our hero.
