In the league of Napoleon, Patton and Rommel, with the liberation of Bangladesh, Sam gave India a reason to hold its head high after the 1962 Indo Chinese fiasco. Had the Field Marshal been commanding an army in the west, tons of books would have been written, movies would have been made and his exploits would have been know to the whole world.
Someone once asked a soldier; ‘Why do you do this? So that you can be a hero?’, the soldier answered ‘None of us wants to be a hero. It just that sometimes it turns out that way.’ God Speed Field Marshal, God Speed!
Let us learn from his life and pledge that India will always come first, everything... our language, religion, caste, state.. everything is always secondary.
A Zorashtrian prayer for a True indian,
Ashem Vahu Vahistem Asti, Usta ahmai yad ashai vehishtem asti.
