Simply a great soldier & a simple no nonsense man! Pity & shameful that none of our govt dignitaries nor the three defence service chiefs could attend when his body rested in state, since a field-marshall never retires as per tradition & that meant he died in harness! That is not the point but the callous behaviour was shocking especially the politicians who always like to bask in reflected glory!!!
The most revered Feild Marshal lives for ever in our hearts.A life-Inspirational,Successful,envious! The greatest thing in soldiering is to be acknowledged & honoured by your adversaries! Very few achieved the same.Mission Impossible in the true sense.Only the Fd Marshal could achieve it!
I M SURPRISED THAT THE LATE FIELD MARSHAL'S FUNERAL WAS NOT ATTENDED BY AIR CHIEF MARSHAL AND THE CHIEF OF NAVAL STAFF. NEITHER WAS HE GIVEN 21 GUN SALUTE AS REPORTED IN THE NEWS PAPERS. HE DESERVED MORE THAN WHAT HIS COUNTRY AND COUNTRYMAN GAVE HIM BACK. IT HAPPENS WITH TRULY VALIANT PERSONS. ONE LIVING EXAMPLE IS IGP KIRAN BEDI. PEOPLE WITH COURAGE AND COMMITMENT LIVE LIFE FEARLESSLY. WE CALL IT SAM DAM DUND PRINCIPLE.
