Our values and votes cannot be bought nor sold.
by Gujumal on Jun 28, 2008 06:45 PM  Permalink

Americans of Indian origin are here in the country for many reasons. They contribute significantly to their adopted country that offers them opportunities that was lacking in the country of origin. One thing that I value is the family values of that Indian culture that I was brought up under. America offers freedom in every aspect of our life we live here. Hence, I am free to hold on to these values and beliefs, not choosing to blindly following the crowd. Our votes in India were either bought or cast in a block without understanding the issues. I enjoy the freedom to analye each candidate's stance on issues in light of my beliefs and values. Thus voting with my understanding not based on what a group is going to do.
Personally, Obama's character as revealed in the past year raises enough doubts in my mind about his core value system. These core beliefs clearly finds its way into his social and economic that clearly have communist undertones. His foreign policy mimics so much that of India. Everyone knows its consequences as India continues to suffer at the hands of militancy supported by Pakistan.
When reading this article I could see the arrogance of this man in considering the people from his homeland to be ignorant and naive.
We should not allow politicians to take us for granted nor vote for who we are told to, neither should our vote be allowed to be bought.
I urge every American of Indian origin to vote based on issues.

Please do not use words like "rude " Punjabis. Sikhs and others of Indian origin made their presence felt all over the world. U.S.A. is a country growing above parochial trends like language, religion ,race and gender bias.

Chatwal is a criminal - FRAUD.
by Faceless Indian on Jun 27, 2008 09:27 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Sant S. Chatwal, an Indian American businessman, has helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaigns, even as he battled governments on two continents to escape bankruptcy and millions of dollars in tax liens.

The founder of the Bombay Palace restaurant chain, Chatwal is one of a growing number of fundraisers in the 2008 presidential campaign whose backgrounds have prompted questions about how much screening the candidates devote to their "bundlers" while they press to raise record amounts.

Chatwal's case reached from his native India to New York City. The IRS pursued him for approximately $4 million in unpaid business taxes, while New York state placed a lien seeking more than $5 million in taxes. He forfeited a building to New York City on which he was delinquent on property taxes and was sued by federal regulators seeking to recoup millions of dollars in loans from a failed bank where he served as a director.

Across the ocean, three Indian banks forced him into U.S. bankruptcy, and he was charged with bank fraud. He was out on bond when he showed up in India in 2001 during a visit by his longtime friend Bill Clinton.

Yet none of the legal and financial woes — occasionally touched on in American or Indian newspapers or highlighted by political opponents — raised red flags inside Hillary Clinton's fundraising operation. Chatwal recently said he plans to help raise $5 million from Indian Americans for Clinton's president

Who is Sant Chatwal to promise support of Indian American community. Who gave him that right. He is a nobody. This is my humble request to all Indian Americans to not support Obama. He is not qualified to be President. He has communist views which are against the interests of business owners and Tax Payers. Please always vote republican.

US had 8 years of republican rule and the living standard has become worst than a communist country. More people living of the govt. If you are afraid of taxes obama might increase. Think of it is a sour pill one has to take to get out of this debt. Else your children will have to pay for all these loans.

Does support here mean
a) Allowing people to come into a sovereign country by breaking the law.
b) Allowing lawbreakers to enjoy the benefits of this country at the expense of those who are here legally

Sorry but thats not what support is. I came into this country legally more that a decade ago and followed the legal process to establish my current status. This nation is a nation of immigrants, immigration has always been in practice since the very beginning of this country. Every country is sovereign and has established laws and I believe that the first responsibility of every person in a civil society is to abide by the laws.

To me, those Indian and Indian origin people made US and other foreign countries their living place with citizenship, they must be loyal to that country. That does not mean, they should forget their original mother. Indian politics is no different from US politics. Recent Karnataka elections shown us a big number of millionaire candidates. In India, Congress party uses money, subsidy, free color TV, free electricities as vote-grabing methods.

This is so not true. Patil, I have lived in US for five years and I strongly disagree with your thoughts. I have found really close friends in US and they even invited me to their house for various festivals. They always made me feel home. The truth is - there are discriminating people in every country. People are PEOPLE. Just because some people in a country discriminate, you just can't generalize that for the country. I myself am marathi living in Pune. And there are discriminating people here in Maharashtra, in US, in France and every other place I have lived. There are also nice and great people in those countries. If you don't want to feel like an outsider in other countries, you just need to make an attempt to reach out to the people and get to know them. ManWoman is a social animal. Thanks!

Don't generalize. In Mumbai, not all Maharashtrians are against the rest of the Indians. In the USA and in England sikhs have been murdered. There have been many cases of blatant descrimination against Indians in the UK.

"Center wants Punjabis on drugs." Who ? Manmohan Singh wants Punjabis or drugs? What made you write a thing like that ? Don't blame Central government for all these problems. There are many other problems in the other states which are impossible to resolve, I don't see Central government promoting drugs in the other states. Central government can't make Punjabis do drugs if they don't want to. Cigarettes and liquor are available in abundance all over India. Not every Indians is a smoker or a drunkard.
