The comparison cannot be made. The so called mumbaikar (Thakurs) are making it one of the worst place to live. And poor fellows writing comments are doing the same. If the city to made world class people have to work not the rules as of British (divide and rule)
The comparision IS needless. Over the past few decades, politicians and builders have milked the city dry.. The mill lands have all been opened up for developement. If it were any other city, some percent of the surplus land would have been made into open spaces( which one is starved of, in here). But here, we see huge buildings and malls coming up everywhere. The old chalws are being pulled down. The old bombay charm is no longer there..No one seems to care 2 hoots about the effect on the ecology. SEZ laws are routinely violated. Mangroves and trees are being hacked. Old timers rue that the quality of life in the metro has hit an all time low..

Mumbai is still one of the greatest city my friends to live even if its infrastructure is poor. We normally blame the politicians and Bureaucrats for the failure. Is it alone their responsibility to keep Mumbai city clean. Dont we have any responsibility. Its easy to pass buck of others failure. We also need to blame ourself for this hazard. We are also a part of this and we cant run away from our responsibility

prabhu- I think you have no other place to survive, that has created this wrong feeling. people are dying because of pollution, accident local train, shortage of water, selfish living. still you feel this is beset place?
yes.. they could be compared ..30 years ago probably when mumbai was one of the most beautiful cities in the world.. with its old charm.. But now its just beyond compare even with its own past .. forget comparing it to any other big city in the world... the civic mess and lack of civic sense have turned it into a nightmare.. except for few areas of vintage south mumbai ..which is untouched.. but rest is a mess. yes.. u'll always be attached to mumbai if u've grown up or lived there.. no matter what... but u can't help but feel bad for the way its self destructing..
Both cities are filthy, dirty and bursting at the seams with traffic overflowing the roads yet NY is a lot orderly, with orderly traffic where motorists still obey the traffic rules else the traffic camera catches their misadventure. In Mumbai, the bravest person is one who crosses the roads in the midst of heavy traffic. NY still has lots more breathing space in the form of green parks etc.
