Let Banatwala rot in hell. May Jesus/Ram/Buddha/Nanak punish him for the atrocities he heaped on non-muslims and muslim women. Long live democracy and secularism

Got to Kerala and see in Muslim districts. Hindus are not allowed to even walk on muslim streets. He had used abusive language againts supreme court justices in parliament after Shah bano case and was instrumental in reversing the historice, egalitarian verdict. May God punish him
Still they claim to be secular. As a matter of fact, post Independence these are the parties who played communal cards shamlessly, condemning others without substance. The west returned REDs remained in forefront to 'cook' jargons to hide their political sins.

May be if someday you come out of "sevak" thinking, you may understand who is secular and who is communal. Infact it seems from your statement that you dont even understand what is seculaism.

I understand. Muslim League(remnant of party that created Pakistan) is secular and BJP (Party espousing Indian Nationalism is communal.Right?
What I do not understand is how 'secular' Congress tied up with a communal party?

BJP......"Party Espousing Indian Nationalism"....Ha Ha... you need little correction.... "Party taking unborn child from womb of mother and slaughtering". This looks like factual. Anyways, it seems that you are product of one of the 65000 schools run by RSS and sister organisation. And in most of the cases, these "products" are brain washed and they are unable to make judgements.
Gulam Mahemood Banatwala was greatest leader of last two decades. He was the one to raise the issues of community over sensitive issues. He always supported the people to get their own rights. I remember his visit to my city Malegaon in early 90s, I was just eight years old, but I delivered a small speech about the role of IUML in post british India written by my father. Today, the saga is not between us, and it is really difficult to cover the gap. Allah marhoom ki maghferat farmaye. Aameen.

You forgot another great leader "Mr. Syed Sahabuddin" (I do not know whether he is still alive) who was instrumental in fanning communal hatred in our Country alongwith Mr. Advani.

Do not worry about Shahabuddin. Let Muslims take care of him. But you should also take care of Advani and Uma Bharati and MOdi and ......
Rediff Editors, where's your journalistic judgement ? Are you now going to publish glowing obituaries of rabid communalists? What's next - a glowing tribute to Aurangzeb?

One man's communalist is another man's nationalist! A communal man will judge others communal.
Quote "Banatwala was one of the Muslim leaders who vociferously argued for implementation of the Sachar Committee report for social and educational support to the Muslim community." Unquote. You will rarely find a muslim leader who will vociferously argu for all round development of India.

Many muslims behave as if they do not belong to India. They swear by their religion (I have seen even some bloggers threatening others by posting messages like "do not force us to choose between our religion and country, etc"!

The moment you guys stop thinking that you own this country, every thing will be alright. Let Muslims do what ever they want to do. Ultimately, this country is theirs as much as it is yours.

Nobody is going "Let Muslims do what ever they want to do". You cannot blackmail the majority in the name of religion. Nobody is going to tolerate such attitude, not only in India, but anywhere in the world.

Great.....anyways, may I know who is blackmailing you? And in which sense?
Banatwala was a rootless leader. He had to contest from Ponnani to get elected. It was due to the fact Malappuram had majority muslim population that he was able to get elected to the Parliament. He might have forefeited even the "deposit" if he had contested from any other place in Kerala. Of late even the muslims of Malappuram were dis-illusioned with him. I remember a muslim woman telling during the last Parliament elections that at least the then candidate could understand their language as Banatwala was not even understand the language of the local people.
Shah Bano case has done more harm to the muslims (even the Babri Masjid episode was an outcome of the same - the Congress govt opened the gates of the disputed structure to the hindus to placate them in the wake of this case - and we all know what happend afterwards)

Many leaders in India are rootless, in your sense of the word. The biggest example is our PM Mr. Manmohan Singh, who could never win election of even a corporator in a municipality. At the same time, many a known crimianls get elected while still in jail. Winning or loosing elections do not diminish the virtue of a perosn. Banatwala at least won so many elections.

What is common with a Muslim leader from Mumbai and those who elected him from Ponnani in Kerala except their religion? Yes, the PM is as rootless as Banatwala. That is the reason why he was elected to the Upper House.
i thought muslim league was pakistani party, jinnah's party, what the hell they were doing in INDIA after partition, dint they got any TANGA to goto pakistan

You are right. It is the remnant of the same Muslim League that created Pakistan. It is a unpatriotic and un-Indian party.
