DMK is groping in the dark now, on how to look to the future. Hence its ambivalence on its ties with PMK. It has multiple problems including pressure from Congress to share the power in Tamil Nadu, internal family feud, strong AIADMK presence and finally uncertainty on general elections. DMK flourished based on its share of power at the centre, and now it sees a threat to the same.
DMK is already feeling the election jitters. They very well know ADMK PMK combine would sweep elections in TN anyday. Now they want to patch up so that they won't lose the coming general election. Opportunism at best.
