MM Singh, PM of India
by hesarappa on Jun 20, 2008 06:46 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Thank God. At last our PM could manage to muster the GUTS and put his foot firm on the ground. He should have shown his mind of this calibre from the day one.

Well all that I know is that we are severly short of power and we need some solution quickly. What are our other options if we say no to the Nuclear deal?

Me PM please have the guts to take atleast one decision yourself and overriding auntyji. You anyway have to go, then why not go gracefully?

A possible alternative is to use solar energy. India has a huge potential, a one time investment will go a long way in securing cheap energy for the future.

Put up solar plants in Thar desert. All the energy needs of the country can be met. Google is investing in s solar plant with 200 MW capacity in Nevada. That is just the beginning.

Nuclear Deal - A balancing exercise
by kunuthur srinivas on Jun 20, 2008 06:41 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Internal squabbles of the Indian National Congress do not want Dr Manmohan Singh to go up the ladder while the opposition parties' resistance is one of speculation whether or not the INC would assert its authority in UPA. Ultimately, the nuclear deal would be clinched as it is a power balancing factor to contain China notwithstanding the US strategy.

Enough is enough!
by shiva on Jun 20, 2008 06:39 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Let us quit en-masse! Every morning the nuclear deal or non-deal glares at us. Now even the PM had enough! A very good excuse to quit and take stock of life!

MMS is not able to convert the non-believers! Others dilly-dally. It is time to a take hard look at the options available in a non-political platform. Yes, some are dreamers!

The noose is tightening and we are gasping for breath. Eighty percent dependency on Gulf countries for energy is plain suicide. The oil rich are having a party and increasing their internal feeding frenzy. Some like China & Indonesia have become importers. The latter quit OPEC - why part of a caucus to raise the prices while an importer?

Nuclear plants take over ten years. Oil at $130 going 200 is fertile ground for renewable energy. Already, Germany & Japan are leaders. US consuming three times energy while having quarter of China population is the culprit. Already post-Bush scenario looks to be good for renewables. When they move the world will do likewise! They can make change.

Let us not compromise and put our heads on the line in a hurry now. We can be held to ransom for technology & later for fuel. We should tie- up for solar, wind, geo-thermal. A break-through is enough to put the oil behind us. After all, bicycle repairers flew the air-planes before airospace engineers! Let us bite the bullet and take advantage of high oil & nuclear non-deal to goad us! Let Bush keep the outdated technology! We turn to nature!

Return to nature meaning go renewables. We are treated as second class to others especially China. BRIC countries & Chindia etc will become a thing of the past as others have moved ahead, especially in energy.

On a broader note, China is forging ahead despite the Sichuan earth-quake. They are exploring gas in disputed territories with Japan, with US in $15 billion business deals, and cosying up to Taiwan. We are waking up as losers and going to bed likewise. The eternal also rans in life also. We just cannot makeup our minds!

As we have talents, the politicians have just to leave them alone and not put road-blocks. We have hit huge ones in oil & now the nuclear non-deal.

Please vote for Congress and UPA for more such tamasha..vote for Congress...vote for the only party that can give double-digit inflation and year-long stagflation..!!

Indian monkeys should copy Americans and dump nuclear power
by Sameer on Jun 20, 2008 06:09 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We are good at copying. America built its last nuke plant in 1970s and after than zero.

Last year, they built 36.Giga Watta of wind pwer and zero nuclear power.

This nuclear deal is a trap.

Is it so? Countries like Japan and France, not known for their stupidity, rely on nuclear power to a large extent. The U.S. and Great Britain are contemplating new nuclear power stations now, with oil at $150 a barrel and set to rise further.

Japann's nuclear plant had serious damage from earth quake recently. Fortunately, there was little damage. They will have no more of those. SOlar, wind. geothermal, biofuel, oceanic waves are the ways to go.

nuclear Deal
by umesh pandey on Jun 20, 2008 06:00 AM  Permalink

I think PM is doing the right thing. He needs to take a stand in what he believes. Nuclear deal can be one of the best thing that could have happened to India. Nuclear deal will open gates to deal with advance world without restrictions. it is not just US and Bush administration but it is the question of India attaining a responsible role in the developed world. MM Singh would be remebered by future generation for his policies and forward thinking if he goes ahead with the deal otherwise he would fade into oblivian as a weak politician who preferred to stick to his chair for few more months instaed of taking a right stand.
