Corruption is like a game , satisfying!
by Abusoleman on Jun 13, 2008 10:19 PM  Permalink

Some think its a game, a charming game , very satisfying ! It gives a pleasure of having something which was not otherwise due!
Who cares what damage it can do!
Accepting something that is substandard and receive money in lieu of the favour shown!
Any favor shown is of value that way!
UN's proposal only will increase cost!

ERADICATING CORRUPTION
by Vivekchand on Jun 13, 2008 02:52 PM  Permalink

UN may be right in their own view. But please note the most corrupt are the ministers and the politicians. Why? What is your findings as to why they are corrupt. It is because of their greed for more wealth that too at the cost of poor people. The money which is supposed to reach the need and the poor people and the children are pocketed by these leaders politicians and the ministers who are supposed and entrusted the duty of taking care of its people. To eradicate corruption there should be strict and on the spot punishment like death which should act as deterent for others and nobody should dare to think of adopting corrupt practices. Such a law should forthwith be brought in the constitution

Raising salary is necessary, but not alone not enough for fighting corruption
by M Kisan on Jun 13, 2008 10:28 AM  Permalink

A decent salary is necessary for a for key persons such as teachers, doctors police and other civil servants so they do not have to depend on additional source of income for basic things in life.
When they have this decent salary, there should also be adequate fear in them for loosing it in case they still indulge in corrupt and unfair practices.

Increasing salaries is a solution, but...
by A. Jacob on Jun 13, 2008 08:42 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is a very good, balanced article. In our nation some of the service sectors are really paid badly. There are a lot of dedicated people in these sectors who really suffer for their dedication. They are not paid well and their honesty doesn't permit them to be corrupt. On the other side, there are many who compromise and turn corrupt for better living standards. Still, there could be others who just leave the field after sometime and pursue some other career to improve their living standards (like me). Ultimately, it's those who need the services, who suffer the most.
As correctly pointed out by some friends here, politics is one of the worst system in our country that is a hindrance in all kinds of development. Increasing salaries across all service sectors is a good idea. But, the politicians and some big shots will not permit this, as then they won't have anything left to fill their pockets with...

JUDICIAL SYSTEM IS THE KEY
by tejas lele on Jun 13, 2008 08:19 AM  Permalink

Tell me in what way u can minimise or eradicate corruption? There could be a solution to minimise it but to eradicate would be impossible. Unfortunately there are many uneducated, ugly and hopeless ministers who r deciding the fate of our nation and mind u they r wealthy living a kings life. First charge them wz corruption, public property thefts and then come to the common man. Saying this does not mean that I m supporting the common man who is corrupt. No.

Example we talk about the policeman, ticket collectors etc taking some amount of money from the people rather than making them pay the actual fine 4 which they will have to issue a receipt. We need to raise their salaries and of other govt. officials like them who work 4 long hours tirelessly. Also the media highlights the incidents of bribes by hidden camera on television and airs it on TV but what happens next? Nothing. R the guilty punished?

Just by raising salaries will not be of any use unless we have a strong judicial system which can punish the culprits who often go scotfree as they know that their higher ups do the samethings.

GOD SAVE INDIA FROM THESE IDIOT POLITICIANS.

It will not work in India
by AnUnknownIndian on Jun 13, 2008 08:14 AM  Permalink

It is not simple Law of Demand in india where If salaries are increased corruption would decrease. In india it is Giffins Paradox. If salaries are increased corruption would also increase.

If we really need to control corruption we need to
1). Stop electing idiot and corrupt politician.
2). Govt employees are to be made accountable in every respect.
3). Once caught govt employees are to be sacked as in the case of most pvt organisations.
