One is free to support a political outfit, but resist to behave like a discredited politician
by satyarthi on Jun 11, 2008 07:44 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Every day, many issues come up for discussion on this board. The level and quality of discussion is definitely better than that in parliament, as participants here are more educated and properly groomed.
However, at times discussants start behaving like politicians by induldging into blame game. What is expected and needed here that some solutions are generated. Problems in India are complex and multidimensional. REdiff has provided us this opportunity, and we should utilize it optimally.

Yediruppa - Why the Crocodile Tears
by Vinay Siddama on Jun 11, 2008 07:43 PM  Permalink

- Till the vote of confidence - the Chief Minister did not appoint an Agriculure Minister
- Even knowing that farmers were agitated after being sworn in as CM, Yediruppa did not appoint a task group to look after the problem
- Even after distribution of portfolios, no task group was constituted
- Home Ministry wanted to crush the agitation with a heavy hand - so gave orders to shoot.
- Till todate, no steps have been taken to check hoarding as the hoarders are mainly BJP party wokers or supporters
- Diversion of fertilizer to CMs and Home Ministers constituencies
- Values lowly a farmer's life by promising Rs 2 lakhs

We are appalled by what we saw in News Channels

Police under orders from home Ministry shooting protestors dead in cold blood.

Why can't farmers protest by being led down by a government who came to power by soliciting themselves as a farmer's party whose CM went to an extra-ordinary step of swearing by farmers.

So what did such a CM do? Despite knowing the seriousness, he failed to appoint an Agriculture Minister till the confidence vote. Even after the confidence vote, no task force was created. In the meanwhile, all available fertlizers were diverted to the CMs and Home Ministers constituency.

When farmers protested, they gave orders to the Police to shoot. Till now, the BJP has not taken action against the police.Has the Home Minister resigned? So why cry crocidile tears?

Dont link farmers and Gujjars
by Kumar M on Jun 11, 2008 07:17 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dont link Gujjars and farmers in karnataka. Gujjars are asking for ST status as they want to remain backward forever. This has nothing to do with farmers demanding fertilizer in karnataka. Adding fuel to the fire are the Gowda family and the CONgress, just to embarass BJP govt. Firing is ordered by the DC or the SP, this has nothing to do with the home ministry.

The Gujjar and farmers agitatin are intrinically linked.

1. In both cases, BJP made promises with intention never to implement them. In Rajasthan, they promised Gujjars ST status. In Karnataka they fooled voters that they were a farmer's party going to the extent of swearing by their name in taking oath!

2. The Gujjar agitation has blocked road traffic. Fertilizers come from Gujarat port is blocked.

3. Both BJP governments in Rajasthan & karnataka are guilty of mishandling the problem - shooting at protestors. Shows the anti-people character of the BJP
