The two types of Jihadis in Pak. army - we have learnt of their motivations from Professor Jamal's book. Interesting but not entirely unexpected. Some other home-truths on Pak.army: 1) They believed, may still do, "One Pak. soldier is equivalent to TEN Indian soldiers"!! "Mughalai Mutton and Murgi" will beat "Dhal, Chawal" anytime and other comforting myths. Wrong because: Battle analysis shows in casualty figures, stamina in offence and defence, courage in Rann Kshetru, the two armies are broadly similar, with the Indian army having an edge. How is that? a) Indian army brings different and wider talents and temperaments to the battle than the Pak. army. The tall, hardy Jats, Rajputs, Dogras are supplemented by the crafty Marathas, Madrasis and Kerals. During the B'desh war, the sappers and miners of the Madras regiment surprised the Pakis a few times. The Sikhs and Gorkhas will defend positions to the last man. They have not heard the word "fear". Increasingly, the Assamese, Mizos, Nagas and Manipuris, will bring other very nice skills to the Indian army. b)Historical legacy and pride of the Indian army is its MAIN motivation. Religious motivation is there but is confined to praying for strength and courage. Unlike the Pak.army, the Indian army has no hatred based on religion. A cool head but quick hands and legs -is best. A Yoginder is likely to be the best soldier. A Jihadi hot-head will slow down the hands and legs. An angry Jihadi may not be a good soldier.
50 years of Congress rule - A case of the Blind leading the partially sighted. My reasons for saying that: 1) Congress has gradually "erased" the glue that held India together in the 1940s - mishandled the Muslim League, Kashmir. From 1970s onwards, it has mishandled "secularism" and "reservation" to take off some more of the gule that held India together. 2) has "talked" of many noble things: Five Year plans, "Democratic Socialism", "Garibi Hatao", "Aam Aadhmi", "secularism", "unity in diversity", the "sacred" Constitution of India and so on. To "implement" this talk, what has Congress govt's done in those years?: Created a HUGE Babudom, paid them so low that many started taking another salary "under the table", Created a huge body of laws and rules that even the Babudom did not know how to "implement" them. Ram Manohar Lohia and Jayaprakash Narain of the Praja Socialist party saw through Congress very early: That Congress was not serious about any implementation. Created shameful shortages of everything, even food. Starvation deaths were very common. Congress-influenced media shut out news that was bad for Congress. Even today leading media in India serve the Congress. 2) Every party that came after Congress copied its political strategy for India: a) Keep the Hindu vote divided along caste lines, through "reservations" and b) Keep the Islamic community "conservative", to be willing to listen to Mullahs - that vote bank has to be "intact". Analyse, "secularism".

You need some castes with REAL DIS-SATISFACTION and jealousy over what other castes are getting. Keeping the poor, always poor, IS GOOD POLITICS for Congress and her allies, the DMK. Free TVs, free gas-connection must act as bribes for a large number of people. Unless they are poor, the freebies won't work. See the devious thinking. But it is a crucial part of political thinking in India. Don't be shocked. 3) There are many cynical Congress people and also in parties allied to them, who think INDIA WILL BE THE SAME - IT CANNOT CHANGE. So, focus on winning the NEXT ELECTION.
Formula making for conflict resolution is a large business. It is promoted by mutually admiring intellectuals, writers, ex-politicians, human right activists, NGOs and mobile citizens. Mixed up with the human rights industry, it is also a respectable occupation. Globally linked, even funded and supported, such formula factories mushroom the world over. They are honoured as doves. Any one differing from them is, by definition, a hawk, opposed to peace.
These factories have a standard diagnosis for all kinds of terror. That it is poverty, deprivation and unemployment that force the desperate youth into militancy. This logic yields a standard prescription for eradicating terror. And that is: ``educate them, address their poverty, you can stamp out terrorism.'' At heart is the assumption that poverty and low education breed terror. Does this match with the anatomy of terror?
Robert Barro, a professor of economics in Harvard University and a senior fellow of Hoover Institution, says that the belief that poverty and low education cause terror may well be a myth. According to Barro ``it may be naive to think that increases in levels of income and education will by themselves lower international terrorism.'' This conclusion is based on a study of the profile of terror, terrorists and their societies made by scholars at Princeton University. Barro advises that ``to find a lasting answer for the terrorism problem we have to continue to look elsewhere'. (Business Week, Asian ed
Md. Hanif, a Pak. journo has written a part-fiction, part-serious, story of how Gen.Zia and the American Ambassador died together in a plane crash. The only new load they took on board the well-maintained plane were some baskets of Bahawalpur mangoes. They were returning to Islamabad from the desert. Zia wanted to present them to his wife, who loved mangoes. Md. Hanif suggests that one or two of the mangoes exploded in mid-air, killing the cruel General, the executioner of Zulfiquar Bhutto, the Premier who appointed him Army-Chief - such things happen in muslim countries. Remember how the Son-in-law and legal heir of the Islamic Prophet was murdered by a military man? Bhutto was the legal heir, killed by a military man!! Islamic history repeats itself.
Sorry - back to the exploding mangoes ... Surprisingly, the Pakis did not think India had any role in this. They thought that either America or their own ISI had a hand. In Pak., they always blame America for everything - although it is one of the three "A"s to sustain Pakistan - the other two being, Army (for protection) and Arabia (for religion). But, I suspect my muslim friend. This Bahawalpuri was born and brought up there. He had an interest in Hindu Philosophy. He read The Bhagavad Gita in secret. He also listened to Bhajans by M.S. Subbalakshmi and others - in secret. Not even his family knew about his "un-islamic" secret-life. He sang folk songs about "Kanhaiya" -said it was the name for "clouds". I kept quiet.
Hindus are their own number one enemy. Hindus always talk big and mightily aginst Pakistan, but when a single Muslim in India raises Allahu Akbar slogan, they start to shit in their pants and run away with their lives. If Hindus were not their own enemies, why do you think India is becoming a Muslim nation in less than 50 years from now? Where do you think Muslim population of Pakistan/ Bangladesh came from and multiplying? Were they not you at one time? Hindus even don't have the gut to admit that the Indian Muslim population is about 40% right now rather than 11-13% as the Government wants you to believe. You think I am joking? Just visit the Indian border areas next to Pakistan and Banglades. Muslim men are killing the Hindus and raping their women and the Government says not a single word, neither you say or do anything about it. Big talk you Hindu fellows. I am ashamed to be a Hindu.

Guest, 1. There may be such a thing as "a Hindu temperament" - showing indifference to some issues, some passiveness. But then normal people, BOTH Muslims and Hindus are NOT violent. Nothing wrong in normal decent families running away from violence. Not every Hindu, not every Muslim is violently inclined. I buy my provisions from a Muslim shop. The owner would lock his shop and run away at the first sign of trouble. He is NOT for violence. It is really the young men of the two communities that fight it out. I may be prejudiced but Hindu elders try to stop violence not the muslim elders. 2. In most communal riots in India, the pattern seems to be, initially, Hindus get beaten, some stabbed to death, but it does not stay that way for long. Hindus inflict violence as good as muslims. It is an "equal battle". Even in Gujarat that was the case. Only the media made it appear otherwise. 3. In Coimbatore, after the baazaar bomb that killed about 60 people, crores of rupees worth of muslim shops and properties were set on fire by Hindus. Muslim businesses were boycotted by them for over a year or so. Muslims then took out a procession condemning the bombing. Then peace was restored. You know, fighting is NOT normal. No two communities can be fighting daily. 2.You may also be right about some increase in the muslim population since the last Census. It would not matter if Islam as a whole is a truly "peaceful" religion. Many in the world, not just Hindus, think it may not be.

Zesh, Everyone has the same level of courage and every human has the "violent instinct". But the "peace instinct" will be the winner in the end. Most ordinary people will run away from violence. They do not wish to get involved. But that is not a weakness. it is good for society that people react like that. Otherwise, India would be like Afghanistan - everyone carries a gun and every village has a "watch tower". My understanding of the history of violence between the two communities is that, it is "an equal battle" with the minority losing a lot of property. Their lives are disrupted more. Therefore, it is in the interests of the minority to avoid these situations.

nothing sort of injustice madam. i admire all the good qualities of the great Adolf Hitler who raised a very poor and weak Germany to such great heights. whatever he did was not right but atleast he showed the guts and the strength which Germany had to fight 15 nations and conquer them. no matter what anyone thinks Hitler is my hero and I pray to god that let someone like Hitler come up through our army's ranks and takeover the reigns of our nation.

Well written article.Some important points to note..... a) Nationalistic Jihadis draw inspiration from Islamic Jihadis. They are not separate but compliment each other. b)Nuke weapons in the hands of these people is like giving Nukes to small kids with no responsibility. Even these Nukes are basically meant as a tool for islamisation of the world.
c)Even China (Father of Pak Nukes) will be under threat ultimately unless they have implanted in these some microchip so that the nukes can be disabled if China is attacked.:)

Hope the Army opts for the "jihadi fervour". Before 9-11 Pakistan could not even pay the 'interest' on the loans, which they begged USA to forgive. USA and the world looked the other way in its pursuit of Taliban and Osama.
They have since received 10 Billion USD of which 9 billion were siphoned by ISI and the army for use use against India.
The terrorist camps and Taliban and Al-Quada have only got stronger-- USA is obviously NOT very happy with the outcome and feels fooled and embarrassed. The world wants accountability and tangible results.
If any country that gained from 9-11 it was/is Pakistan---the party is over.
Its best for the peace of the world that it be split into three parts, Sindh and Punjab two parts that CANNOT live under Sharia rules. That leaves NWF/Bolushitan an area already with Taliban/Al-Quada and agreeable to Sharia laws.
This will be good for ALL sensible people of the world.
