I sincerely hope the INdian Navy gets these helicopters and aircraft in this century. At the rate at which we are processing deals, we may see the next government revising the specs and figures are the hibernating over the tenders for the nest 15 years till the stuff is obsolete, Pakistan has much bettter stuff, and the original suppliers are not making the items quoted for anymore, like what happened with the Mirage deal. No middlemen, deal directly with the government babus. they are more competent, never get caught.

MIG crashes were mainly becoz of lack of technical know-how. Yes, the MIG-21 are ageing and crashed due to technical problems. But MIG-29 is a supersonic jet and too advanced for our pilots who are not trained adequately to fly these aircrafts, hence the crashes. Am sure, if handled well these aircrafts can provide us excellent air superiority.
ak antony has failed to provide right direction to indian defence forces. the role of defence ministry has been reduced to issue rquirements for tenders rather than acting fast and speeding up defence procurements. internal R&D is not producing the right kind of results.
indian planners make grand plans but they are never implemented on time.let us see how far indian navy succeeds. indian political establishment is notorious for being inert.
Indian navy's role is limited and shall continue to be so for another two decades or so.Today IN cannot even blockade Karachi for more than three days, thereby making insignificant contribution to the war-making effort of the nation. The sea-theatre is considerably big as compared to the number of units at sea on either side;chances are that they will play hide and seek and exhaust themselves before hunting each other out ! Harriers would have been nonperformers if war were to break out, given the all-up weight constraints in fuel visavis weapon struggle. An aircraft carrier therefore demands it's own protection(op) in comparison to what it can deliver(cd) at sea. Thus the op to cd ratio is a miserable arithmatic which even advanced navies of the world are giving up on.But our admirals are like the proverbial one-eyed monster who kills itself by its sheer own weight and lack of allround vision. There is a penchant to 'extract'maximum out of the government, whether it's for the general good or not. Only if the Army and Navy could repose more faith in our Air Force and could work on the principle of interoperability that we wouldn't come to a situation of each trying to 'own' its own 'Air Force'.We rather be one big force than the divided three. Once the Russians decide to sell something to us, they do it. Simple. Whether its out dated and obsolete tanks, a horrifying and expensive carrier or junk coffins which sometimes fly, or missiles which do not work and ditch , they will sell and we will buy.

Well Said. Gorshkov is a junk ship Soviet is trying to get rid of and making nice money too, any aircraft carrier is of no use unless it has strong peripheral security in form of destroyers. Billions of Tax payers money getting wasted on junk gadi.
I would love to see India research and develop their own weapons, carriers, systems, air-stuffs, etc rather than buying it from someone. We are dependent on many coutries ans wasting a lot of money. Lets pay the military research guys handful and start having our own strategy weapons. I Pray GOD that his happens pretty soon.

Dude, all weapon systems that DRDO makes become outdated when they are released.....so India has to buy...no other option

DRDO never makes any weapon, they start projects then when all the personnel working on that project retire. Then they discontinue that project and start another one.

Seriously dude DRDO is a junk which is even more dangerous than MIGs,they show the forces the dreams which never materialise,LCA,Arjun tanks , NAG,Trishul....the list is endless...first of all i thnk DRDO should be re-structured and something should be done to stop the scientists from going abroad else it will always remain as piece of junk.....
