everyone knows what to do, but no one wants to do what they are suppose to do. sounds confusing? ........ start using public transport, use bicycles, try bargaining with the petrol pump guy (obviously he is not going to reduce the rates), and finally don't buy petrol, slowly this movement will pick up pace and the concerned people will be forced to bow down in front of us. Everyone in here preaches to teach the Govt. Get practical and teach them this way or in some similar fashion.

not necessarily.. Try to use public transport. have a small walk instead of using ur bike to go to a near by shop..
I appreciate Mr Shenoy's bold article. In order to save his minority Congress govt, Narasimha Rao allocated Local Area Development fund of Rs.2 crore per MP (for MLAs by then respective state govts)per annum. This amount was given to them as a bribe to keep his govt complete his term in office. No one is spending for local development and only at the time of elections they remove the old dividers on the road to by spending some few thousand rupees favouring his own family and pocketing the rest for his personal use. That apart, the govt is giving freebies to all MPs, MLAs. Withdraw all these facilities including LDA so as to save the country to overcome the crisis. Austerity measures should be adopted by the govt since they are looting the common man's fund. A moratorium on this should be issued immediately. To overcome food crisis, Lal Bahadur Shastri appealed to the nation to fast on Thursdays. But this Congress govt does not adopt such austerity measures. Curtail all govt wasteful expenditures. Ban should be in place barring politicians getting treatment abroad on govt expenses. They should get treated by OBC doctors in india only. Insane leaders should be shown the door to save the country from division. Politicians must pay for all things rather than getting free by wasting comman man's fund. By the by, how much arrears these people have to pay for telephone, water and on other items. What happened about recovery of NPAs from industrialists. Make it public.

"Ban should be in place barring politicians getting treatment abroad on govt expenses. They should get treated by OBC doctors in india only". How good it will be if there is a law which states that all MPs and MLAs should (must) be treated only in government run hospitals.

nice one Kannan find such more points that the Government and the IAS employees should go thru. The Bureaucracy and the MP/MLA work together to screw us, so lets start screwing them. Some points like, no special security to any politician on Government expenses. These people should eat the food available in the Ration shops (Especially Sharad pawar). No special convey and consessions for them to use road, they will travel as a common man. No special transport over 4Kms of travel as they too can use public transport like Local trains and bus. One way is to torture them so that they will look to the reall needs of the public.
Dear Friends, Following is the article from well known Newspaper. Find the detail break-up of the Final price of petrol available in pumps.
This is a break up considering crude oil at 130 $ per barrel. Following details are for per liter petrol in Rs. Basic Price = Rs 21.93 Excise duty = Rs 14.35 Education Tax = Rs 0.43 Dealer commission = Rs 1.05 VAT = Rs 5.5 Crude Oil Custom duty = Rs 1.1 Petrol Custom = Rs 1.54 Transportation Charge = Rs 6.00 Total price = Rs 51.90 For Rs 22 per liter at petrol pumps, we people paying Rs 28 tax extra.
Govt. is thinking to impose more price hike to curtain with the current crude oil bubble in International oil crisis.
If Central Govt. wish, it can still reduce the price of petrol in the current crisis situation, but it doesn't intend to do so, instead trying to fool the people and Nation. This is the basis LEFT parties are opposing, just generating more profits for the oil marketing companies.
Don't you think you should pass this message to create more awareness among the people.

These businessmen who are making tons of money whould be taxed pretty heavily. When they make loads of money during boom times, they shud as well share some burden durinf times like these. The govt shud be doing that..
Can we not analyze any economic issue without resorting to political bitching? I wish all of us try to understand the real reasons and implications of the current crisis and not waste or energies in stupid politics. There are two ways to look at the decrease in oil prices from $ 135 to 123. It can be bad timing as Mr Shenoy says. It can also be true that it was the increase in domestic oil prices in India that brought about the fall. Unlike the previous two oil crises, the sharp price increase this time around is not account of the demand supply gap only. The global financial majors who have shifted their attention to oil futures are behind the current spate of oil price increase. As a result even the spot market for oil is behaving like a stock market driven by sentiments. The fall in oil prices was indeed triggered by the sentiment created by the oil price increase announced by India and the emergency G 8 meeting that was then in the offing. In fact if India had acted in advance, perhaps the slide would have started much earlier. If international oil prices are to be kept in check, India and China must send strong signals that call the bluff. They must announce series of steps aimed at reducing oil dependence and improve energy efficiency in a big way. I know it is difficult to keep domestic oil prices linked to volatile international markets. It would not also be economically prudent to let rogues at international commodity exchanges to dictate to developing countries.
Imagine the combined impact of all the above on our fuel security and the overall national economy. Imagine an Indian budget where fuel imports accounted for only 20-30 or even 10-20 per cent of the total imports. Its not impossible guys, its extremely feasible if only our great politicians / technocrats have the will and show some direction.
I just wish that there are some other souls like me who think the same way and somewhere down the line we can start collectively articulating this philosophy, igniting a positive change
commercially exploited. The only thing that needs to be done is that conversion kits need to be installed across the country on a war footing
Step II We need to start commercially exploiting other bio-fuels such palm oil and oil from the Jathropa plant. CISR has said that this can be easily done as the plant is grown very fast in arid areas which our country has in plenty. the technology has also been extensively tested on cars including the ultra refined Merc.
Step III Along with bio-fuels we also need to start exploiting alternate sources of energy such as solar, wind and hydro electricity. We have the necessary technology and know-how we just need to step up the game.
Step IV Our nuclear energy programme should be made into our central energy source. Why are we so focused on Uranium. The entire scientific community has openly stated that Thorium, which is available in abundance in India and is also a non-fissile source, can be effectively used. The use of this fuel will not just eliminate the need for a 123 deal with the US (something that has caused a lot of heart burn and to me an utter waste of tax-payers money), but would also reduce our energy import bill ten-fold.
Imagine the combined impact of all the above on our fuel security and the overall national economy. Imagine an Indian budget where fuel imports accounted for only 20-30 or even 10-20 per cent of the total imports. Its not impossible guys, its extremely feasible if only our great politicians /
Hey I broadly do agree with you that this debate on the price increase is futile and that at the end of the day the consumer cannot be completely insulated from it. The trigger here being this ongoing global debate on fuel price rise (over $ 130 now) and its impact on the Indian economy. After having held it back for so long the Indian government has finally raised the prices marginally (10%) bringing about some relief to the oil companies, much to the charging of the Left who are just looking for a credible excuse to exit the UPA and cut their so called losses. One thing is sure this price rise is definitely going to increase commodity and all other prices across board. Don't ask me what this will do the inflation which is already over 8.2 per cent, what with a hardening of interest rates just around the corner.
My point being that economists have been drawing up all different scenario's based on which side of the fence they lie left, right or centre. To me the solution is not very complex. The bane of the entire issue is crippling fuel prices which has already started even adversely effecting other sectors and spoiling the wonderful growth story we have been enjoying thus far. Why not just minimize or try and completely eliminate this source from the picture. All that needs to be done is that
Step I Oil companies need to immediately switch to LPG/CNG as a source for auto and other fuel. This can easily be done as there are huge reserves of gas that can be commerciall
