Ashoka was not fed up with Hinduism he was just a regular king from 1000 others.. He was fighting a war just like between 2 kingdoms and after seeing millions die he wanted to give up violence and found Buddhism which was a way of finding peace found by another Hindu that time.. now as u have asked.. the difference between Hindu or other religion kings is they didn't rape or ran away with women or force civilians of other countries to be slaves or accept their philisophy that barberism started with Muslims 1400 yrs back... u like it or not thats the fact.. Ashoka was the Alexander of the east.. he was over ambitious and had only one goal in life expand his territory which he did.. but then what. So he moves to the next level to spread this new religion in the place which he conquered. So many centuries after his death you and me are debating wasting our time discussing about him and this is precisely what he wanted "FAME"....samjhe bhidu. Mr Bin Laden was struggling to become the custodian of the holy mosques but since he was kicked out of Saudi he resorted to his other techniques to potray himself as the saviour of Islam. You are the worlds most densely populated religion yet you have one country because your ideology is weak. Idol Worship is prohibited in Hinduism:
i. Idol worship, which is very common amongst the Hindus, is prohibited in Hinduism. It is mentioned in Bhagavad Gita Chapter 7 verse 20:
“Those whose intelligence has been stolen by material desires they worship demigods i.e. idols.(Bhagavad Gita 7:20)

ii. Svetashvatara Upanishad chapter 4 verse 19

iii. Yajurved Chapter 32 Verse 3
“There is no image of Him” (Svetashvatara Upanishad 4:19, Yajurved 32:3)
iv. It is also mentioned in
Yajurveda Chapter 40 verse 9
“They enter darkness those who worship natural things (for e.g. air, water, fire, etc.). They sink deeper in darkness those who worship sambhuti i.e. created things (for e.g. table, chair, car, idol etc.) (Yajurved 40:9)
