We need people like Somnath da
by Prabhakar Agrawal on Jul 27, 2008 12:32 PM  Permalink

Well done dada, you are certainly head above most of the present Indian politicians, you are a real statesman. How could you remain so cool, so balanced and humorous amidst these rogue parliamentarians who were shouting, interrupting and distubing every moment.Of course it was a trust vote sought by the PM, but it was also clear that it was an opinion on Nuclear Deal between India and USA. Every time our country has tried to take help of latest technology for the development of people, the opposition has opposed vehemently. They used to mislead common farmers that if Dams like Bhakra Nangal come up they will generate elctricity which means take out power from water, that powerless water will be useless for irrigating your land.Misled illiterate people agitated. When computers and telecommunication were to be brought on large scale they opposed through Labour unions. Now they are opposing Nuclear power without knowing what is it. I think most of the MPs cannot even write nuclear energy correctly in any language.
Communists are opposing as we are taking help of America, BJP is opposing because it thinks that the credit will be taken by Congress.
Somnathji understands all this, he knew that anybody else on that day in that Speaker's chair would not be able to handle the proceedings properly, so correctly he did not resign. He handled everything marvellouly, he was impartial throughout and drew respect of everyone. We need people like him as speakers of assemblies, as governors

LET YOUR NAME BE REMEMBERED AS A
by K Mohanan on Jul 26, 2008 09:36 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

MR. SOMNATH CHATTERJEE, INDIA HAS NEVER PRODUCED A "TRAITOR" POLITICIAN LIKE YOU AND AM SURE OUR MOTHERLAND WILL NEVER PRODUCE A "TRAITOR" POLITICIAN LIKE YOU. YOU HAVE NOT ONLY BETRAYED YOUR PARTY BUT ALSO THE PARLIAMENT BY ENCOURAGING THE MPs TO CROSS-VOTE AND ALSO ABSTAIN FROM VOTING AT THE BEHEST OF YOUR PRESENT GURU "AMAR SINGH" AND "SONIA MADAM".

YOU ARE A SHAME NOT ONLY FOR WEST BENGAL BUT THE WHOLE OF INDIA.

IF YOU BECOME NEXT PRESIDENT OF INDIA AS HAS BEEN PUBLICISHED, IT WILL BE A BLACK DAY FOR OUR BELOVED NATION.

PLEASE LEAVE PUBLIC LIFE AND STOP BETRAYING THE COUNTRY AND THE COUNTRYMEN BECAUSE A PERSON LIKE YOU IS A CURSE FOR OUR MOTHERLAND.

IT IS THE FIRST TIME IN INDIA'S HISTORY, SPEAKER HAS TAKEN INITIATIVE IN HORSE TRADING.

Whatsoever Somnathji did on that day he did it sincerely and impartially, speaker does not belong to any party, how can you say that he encouraged horse trading, he managed the house very well which was his only duty, he allowed voting as that was his duty. Every opposition party was confident of winning, otherwise they would have boycotted voting. Where is he wrong?
