PROJECTING MAYAWATI AS PM MAY BE A SHORT-TERM GAIN, BUT WILL BE SUICIDAL FOR UNPA PARTNERS IN THE LONG RUN!
by Kabeer on Jul 25, 2008 01:15 PM  Permalink

Projecting Mayawati as the PM, to garner the larger decisive dalit vote may be successful.

But for other regional parties to project her as a PM candidate in the long run will prove to be suicidal!

Dalits all over the country may vote for UNPA now seeing her as their next PM, but in that process other UNPA partners & particularly regional parties are yielding their own political space to her. Currently Mayawati is struggling to get political space in states like South and Maharashtra etc. With this all regional parties will be giving her a presence in their respective states.

Once Mayawati becomes PM she will consolidate that position and will build up her presence in the entire country and Dalit vote is a larger chunk chunk than the Minority vote!

Will your National strike bring down the price of any of the essential items for the common man. You communists are only troubling the people of Kerala by organizing useless protests. With the goondas in your party you may stop traffic in kerala and bengal, elsewhere it will life as usual.

Are you telling that a school teacher gone for attending a cluster meeting was killed by CPM goondas? Then why you not express your voice against the Congress led UDF goondas arrested for that murder since they are peace lovers!

where were you when the same communist goondas killed an school teacher in front of their students? And any violence in Kerala can be directly attributed to the communists. Either you instigate it or it is a result of your violent response. As far as Kerala is concerned communal violence maybe there, but your party has also supported communal elements in the past, you were in the front row in pledging support for the communal Madhani

Flawed Article!

The word 'Mass Leader" is one of the most misused term in political writing today. It comes from assumption and nothing else. How else do you describe Mayawati a mass leader? What is her claim to fame? She is heading a party which was NOT formed by her, the last UP assembly election is the first election that she has won decisively and she has won absolutely nothing significant other than that. Just one assembly win and you brand her a mass leader?? In that case, why are people like Naveen Patnaik (2 consecutive terms) or Chandrababu Naidu (2 terms before last loss) not called mass leaders as well by the same media? To me, a mass leader is the one who is heard and respected all over and is has a pan-Indian appeal. In today's polity, the only names i can think of is Vajpayee, L.K. Advani and Soniya Gandhi.

Then comes leaders with mass charishma and i think people like Balasaheb Thackeray, Narendra Modi or Lalu Yadav fit the bill here...these are the people who can hold the audience with their oratorial skills. I dont think Mayawati possesses any great oratorial skill either.

Next, you have regional satraps and this is where Mayawati fits, along with likes of Mulayam, Karunanidhi, Jayalalita etc. She has hired a good PR firm which is trying to project her this larger-than-life image.

Lastly, she is being touted as a leader of a front. Well, please beware her. She has partnered and parted with everyone possible in UP - from Mulayam to BJP to anyone and then tried to br

Mayawati n its 3rd Front.

I really admire the way Mayawati is tackling the current situation to make the 3rd front powerful day by day. Atleast this 3rd front should come into power n rule this country, hoping that atleast 0.1% they will do something good for the people of India, if they can do better then its well and good for us only. May be they mite have ability to rule better than this Congress,(UPA) and BJP (NDA).
Well done Mayawati...keep it up and show ur ability.

What tackling the situation. Prior to proping her name, there was a surity that congress will be defeated back and blue in the parliament and they expected few defections and isolations from congress. Once the name of Mayavati came, it ended the whole story. Many people who do not want woman to take a center stage and few of the congress walas felt Sonia is better than Mayavati's arrogance in dealing the matters. No matter about dalit's sentiments, when in elections dalits also vote, not based on their caste but based on the offering to them. And Mayavati and its bankrupt group do not have enough money for this. More importantly, there are many dislikers for her.

Day by day people curse themselves for voting to your party, which has made life hell by organising useless protests, bandhs and hartals which only trouble the common man.
