It is an democractic office
by kanti on Jul 23, 2008 11:36 PM  Permalink

Parliament is an office for MP's, so probably they might be following the philosophies of other working offices(public or private) across the world where employees support or help each other what ever might be the issue to show oneness and carryout work fast and improve efficiency.

Riduculous Constitution! - - - Supports Sell Outs
by TheOneAndOnly on Jul 23, 2008 07:58 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If a Whip is Issued and the Member acts against it, Which if is Proved, The Member will be stripped off his Membership of the House by the Speaker.

But, WHY At all should a Vote be allowed to be Cast by the Member When the WHIP is given So much importance by the Constitution ?

Instead the Constitution should Say that ONLY the Whip has the Right to Vote as per the Decision of his party And His Vote in the House Equals all the Votes of All his Party Members.

The People who elect a Member Vote Seeing the Party manifesto or Listening to the Promises of the Party Leaders. Why Should a Member be allowed to Sell his Membership of the House, In International Markets - including on Issues related to the Sovereignity, Economics and Security of India ???

Any Member Who wants go against the Party Line should be given only one Option of Resigning from his Membership before the Voting Ends.

This Kind of Law/Amendment Will End the GREAT INDIAN BAZAAR of Democracy.

The problem is the people, they elect defectors, unless people shun them, unless people stop electing them, crooks will always take advantage of some or the other issue.

Firstly I 100% Agree with your sentiments and I would like to add following.

The most basis fundamental of Democracy is that Citizens have right to know what their MP/MLA are promising to deliver, their ideology and principals they stand for before they vote them in or out.

Therefore, if MP/MLA switches a side, changes their ideology or principals for any reasons they must be forced (by law of course) to go back to their constituency and seek a fresh mandate for changed scenario and explain it why. Without that you are basically showing one thing to your customer and handing them out quite another. Which in any country and place will amount to a prosecution under criminal law for cheating...

Lets take this debate to as many people as we can and on one fine day people's strong view on this subject will force our political party to pass one such law. And that could only enhance the Indian Democracy and held MP/MLAs more accountable.

Regards,

Sheela Bhatt a BJP mouthpiece!
by Ramesh Kapoor on Jul 23, 2008 07:35 PM  Permalink

Yesterday, Sheela Bhatt was called a BJP mouthpiece by some disgruntled Congress party supporters, and after reading this article, I am sure they will change their minds. The fact of the matter is that July 22, 2007, will remain a sad day in Indian politics. It was a day carried by corrupts and at no time there was that elusive feelings that 541 MPs voted freely and conscientiously. If it was the NDeal probably the result would have been different from the Trust vote.

Let us get this straight..the nuclear agreement is good for the country. It is sad that the left and the right were opposing it just for the sake of opposition. I am happy that UPA won the confidence vote..the brides well..it was in a good cause.

Anti Defection Law
by BahujanHitay BahujanSukhay on Jul 23, 2008 06:13 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dear Friends, you may know that under the anti defection law if MP violate official stand of the party then he/she be disqualified from the membership of that particular house of representative. Since the MPs who cross voted in yesterday's confidence vote are no more bonafide members of LS then how come ruling party can claim they got majority to rule. Thus the ruling party is again in minority and should be asked to test its strength. This will stop MP's (horse) trading and no MP will be allowed to act against their official party stand. If some members wants to violate official stand of their party then they must secure 2/3rd of the party strength. Thus yesterday's confidence vote is a rude play of BJP who secretly joined hands with Congress to stop Bahenji Mayawati becoming PM. After all both Congress and BJP acted according to their Manuwad.

UNPA and NDA beaten in their own game
by All Right on Jul 23, 2008 05:44 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The analysis of cross-voting indicated that 6 SP MPs switched to BSP and 1 Congress MPs switched over to the BJP.

These cross-voting started 10 days ago with Mayawati and BJP parading their defectors.

BJP tried poaching more Congress MPs like Jalappa, whose son is already a BJP MLA in Karnataka. Congress was supposed to lose as many as 4 MPs to the BJP and the SP was being targeted by UNPA for a vertical split. Meanwhile Mayawati-Karat poached JDS and RLD who together had another 6 MPS from the UPA. These defectors were also paraded in news channels.

The best form of defense was offense and the UPA-SP retaliated in kind to not only stem the tide but to put both the UNPA and NDA on the defensive.

So Mayawati, Karat and Advani maybe crying crocidile tears now. They have been beaten in their own game. Losers

Yes everyone should be upset of corruption. So why not you ask BJP's CM in Karnataka to quit too. He bought 12 MLAs (Independents & Opposition parties) made 9 Ministers in addition to crores of rupees financeb by the Bellary mining mafia who has another 4 cabinet berths
