F the money can buy the lawmakers (MPs) --the law executers are small fry comparatively to be bought out at less amount, including IB and CBI and judges, with promises of powerful positions.
In the next year the current power bearers will rob the Indian treasury 10 folds over. So it is a wise investment.
ALL the BS in the present environment for nuclear deal is nothing more than political and money kickbacks and extremely shortsighted for India' welfare. The NEXT US government would have fought it more aggressively to look better than Bush's term. BE it Obama or McCain. $100 Billion is on the table.
A strategic alignment with USA is natural, it had to happen, regardless of Indira's fallout with Nixon/Kissinger. Congress had NO reason to be dictated terms by USA.
AS a PM I would have USA support India's seat as a permanent seat on UN security council, member of nuclear weapon state, and last but least equal member of G8 plus.
BUT alas you and me are stuck with corrupt politicians from Nehru downwards. They will sell their mother for money and power so to sell out Bharat Mata is NOT a surprise.
A revolution is not far away once the literacy level rises. Which it will. The NRIs are going to play a very important in this.
The NRIs MUST be allowed to vote. Dual citizen will allow this. NOT a PIO card to pay exhortation's fees just to visit India.
NRIs and their relatives and professional associates talk the same talk but unfortunately stay away from the "dirty" pol
These expulsions were anticipated & prepared for by all the MP who cross voted. They are shrew enough to think that the their term is coming to en d in few months and hence should make money while the sun of this opportunistic vote of confidence shined. In all probability these MPs may not be extending a re-issuing of the party ticket or their constituencies which must have been their fortresses so far might have been vanished or redrawn.these black sheep will prove their colour anywhere they be.Although their temporary mission of making a life time sufficient money is served, they cannot expect any political life since no party believes them. There is no guarantee that, once habituated to betrayal, such elements would not repeat the same in the new party they choose to join.their cross voting is certainly out of their genuine concern for the merits of the issues involved but to encash the need & helplessness of the Congress party. It is not understood as to why the rebel MPs of TRS and the other MP Adikeshava Reddy of TDP have not been suspended by their parties. Tukaram Patil, the Sena MP who abstained from voting by his sudden disappearance a few days before the day of vote only surface after the motion day, will also be facing the same fate of expulsion.Congress counted on all these black sheep and their plans fructified to the great unexpectations and dismay of the opposition to which the betrayers belonged.Indian politics survive on all types of such polytricks.God save us.
Per an Outlookindia.com opinion poll, majority people support nuclear deal. So is the case with MPs. If the political parties had not issued whips and all MPs were allowed to vote going by their conscience, UPA would have won by a better margin in the trust vote.
If a Whip is Issued and the Member acts against it, Which if is Proved, The Member will be stripped off his Membership of the House by the Speaker.
But, WHY At all should a Vote be allowed to be Cast by the Member When the WHIP is given So much importance by the Constitution ?
Instead the Constitution should Say that ONLY the Whip has the Right to Vote as per the Decision of his party And His Vote in the House Equals all the Votes of All his Party Members.
The People who elect a Member Vote Seeing the Party manifesto or Listening to the Promises of the Party Leaders. Why Should a Member be allowed to Sell his Membership of the House, In International Markets - including on Issues related to the Sovereignity, Economics and Security of India ???
Any Member Who wants go against the Party Line should be given only one Option of Resigning from his Membership before the Voting Ends.
This Kind of Law/Amendment Will End the GREAT INDIA BAZAAR of Democracy.

I agree with you. Anyone who is against the party's decision and thinks that the decision is against their constituents can quit the party before the vote and go for relection. That will make the parties to make decisions taking all the members into confidence rather than what the mamma or grandpa of the top leaders would have done if they were around.

How is this going to solve the problem? Why can not the MPs be paid to resign before the vote - effectively helping either the government or the opposition ?

I guess u all have a valid point. The framers of the Constitution too felt the same way. Their idea was, what if a party was voting against national interest or wish of the people?..so they allowed for representatives to use their own conscience and vote even against the party whip. Remember, the initial years were uni-party days. Unfortunately, today both parties and members sell their conscience against the very people who elect them. This is a problem which the founding fathers had not foreseen and the present generation needs to address.
As the opposition is blaming the govt for bribing MPs.I would like to mention one thing everyone got the opportunity to buy MPs.But opposition could not managed it.This motion was to topple the common elected govt which is itself a crime.Bjp and BJD could not win the trust of their MPs.And we should not forget Bangaroo Laxman taking bribe.
I believe this is planned drama by BJP think-tank.
1. BJP know nuclear deal is also their choice.
2. For CPM party congrass is no more enemey and they will do anything to defeat BJP. So the survival of Man Mohan govt after the Karat pull out of the power plug is nice kick in the butt treatement.
Advani and crew is wise. They are winning already the election with their strategies. Good job Advani
Politics in India has been just a mockery of democracy.Openly there are charges of buying the votes of MPs for amounts varying from 3 crores to 25 crores or may be even more.where from this money is coming?Offcourse it is public money. It means a party which can afford so much money in buying the votes must have robbed the country of many many times this amount.the money amounting to thousands of crores is in the pockets of these politicians and common people are dying of hunger, living in slums with no basic facilities.Such great politicians we have elected who live in palaces, eat in five star hotels and all te time travel by air. They offer crores for buying the votes from the money of citizens of india to rob citizens of India. What a pitty.some of them oppose the deal saying USA is anti muslim and don't want any deal in national interest. It is a shame for the voters and all citizens of this great country. We must stand against and bring down these corrupt politicians.

whats wrong in accepting money for vote. Corruption is an integral part of our society. Why to cry foul. There are only 5% people who are not corrupt and majority of us are corrupt. Then why to expect good behaviour from MPs alone. Everyone of us accept bribe, gives bribe, submits false bills for remittance. Politics and business is a game of opportunism and money.
