Hold on Guys! Indian Politics is Different, We are the world largest FUNCTIONING Democracy
by stephen francis on Jul 22, 2008 02:44 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Democracy was invented in Greece, implemented by the English in UK, Upgraded by the americans but its only in INDIA that we see true democracy in all its colors. Do you think if it were UK/US, Yechuri, Bardhan, Mayawati etc. politiciana who change colors can ever be alive!. Nope, its only in India. The Olympics has been completely overshadowed by the Political Game in the largest Democracy of the World. The world knows and senses the wits & the will of the people of India. So in the end, India steals the show. Politics is the best sport in India & the best worldwide attraction, the largest revenue business in India. Poltics is the best movie & highly rated in the media. Surely, Chinese for once need to learn business & politics from versatile India. One Indian is enough for a thousand Chinese in comparison.

Trust Vote
by ganapathy iyer on Jul 22, 2008 02:34 PM  Permalink

Its an ironic and paradox that A PM with an impeccable personal integrity leads a coailation govt which had resorted to questionable methods to win the trust vote.

A PM of his personal standing should have exhorted his party men to desist from immoral methods to cobble the MPs in favour of UPA

Left pulled the support - sensex rose!
by Nitin Gupta on Jul 22, 2008 02:34 PM  Permalink

Left going out of the government has been a positive thing for India. For the first time in the history of India, the stock markets went up due to unstabilizing of a government. Left had been a burden on the government, i hope the UPA wins the vote of confidence and is able to carry out the reforms.

Congress may win by number but big looser in politics
by Anil Bharali on Jul 22, 2008 02:29 PM  Permalink

Left was a trusted ally to UPA, probably is lost for ever.UPA fails to establish doubt on lefts secular credential.UPA fails to isolate left politically which was main purpose of PM MMS( congress) and Geroge Bush.Left has cleanly come out immediately as major challenge unexpectedly to UPAand BJP.Moreover third front is more federal in nature and suitable for indian politics asan emerging force with enough political space.American themselves will expose the nature of N deal within a very shorttime.

NDA is damn smart
by rangdebasanti on Jul 22, 2008 02:26 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

National Politics
* SP will use UPA to fight against Maya
* Maya will use UNPA to fight against UPA and SP
* NDA will forget UP and has to concentrate in rest of India
* Who knows, UP people may appreciate this smartness and reward NDA!!
Nuclear Deal
* UPA refined the deal started by NDA
* UPA will go through and sign the deal
* Inflation and fighting with Maya and UNPA will weaken UPA
* UPA has to keep SP happy and lose Reliance (Murali Deora - a crying baby)
* (If) NDA comes to power, it will regularise the nuclear reactors; reward the contract

The best part is SP will kick on UPA a*s*s to fast forward the nuclear deal, so Anil Ambani can get some contract. It will be fun to watch a few months ahead.

You ROCK man. You are awesome in some of your analysis. I really want to know how you approach life and work? Always with an element of doubt? So many people slam BJP and Brahmins in general. It's one thing to be secular and another to be against BJP. All the political parties claim to be secular by Bashing BJP. IS IT SECULAR TO DEVISE LAWS BASED ON RELIGION? I AM SECULAR. I don't mind others following any faith. Let's have a general yardstick for every citizen of this country. Only then you can feel the UNITY. If the administration itself discriminates citizens, how do you expect them to be UNITED? I am not against your thoughts or opinions. They are valid in one context, but decisions can't be taken based on just one context. Let's GROW UP GUYS.

Its typical of leftists to make the issue emotional without explaining it logically. HOW DOES NUCLEAR DEAL SNATCH BREAD AND BUTTER FROM THE POOR??

And I pity on your knowledge... you can't even see the abject poverty bengal is suffering from... while the rest of Indian economy is posting 8-9% GDP growth but bengal is still being captured by pseudo-leftist ideology... their attitude is such that no industrialist wants to go in bengal and setup industries there.... Its just a vote bank politics and leftists dont want poor to get jobs and improve their standard of living

by Arup Sinha on Jul 22, 2008 02:10 PM  Permalink

The Congress is digging it's own grave by selling out to US like telling them which are our military reactors. By dumping the left after taking their for 4 years they have shown that they can be the best opportunists. Congress is taking Indian politics to new lows. Shame on them for misleading the people of India for a deal.

They also want to destroy the Sethu Samudram ignoring the sentiments of Hindus. They are asking proof for the existence of Ram!!!

Amarnath yatra land order has to been taken back by Congress government to appease the pakistani muslim elements of Kashmir.

There is an Old dictum in Hindi : Jab siyar ki maut aatihai to wah sahar ki taraf daurta hai.

Though nuclear deal looks good, I am not sure why US is so keen to get it going. I suspect that there is something more to it than we see. Public has not seen exact draft of the deal. Also, why congress is so keen to sign this deal much more than handling inflation? With these doubts in mind, I hope and pray that UPA loses the trust vote.

It is not as if India should work on inflation or on Nuclear power. They should work on both simultaneously.
US would like to finish it quickly so Bush has one important positive thing he did. Congress also wants to do it quickly to put their name in history.
But all this should benefit India only. Nuclear energy is a proven source and there are countries like France who generate 75-80% of their energy through Nuclear.

All the information you want to get is available on this now. Please research and not lazily just say no good information is available.

At present, power from existing nuclear reactors costs, after huge subsidies, between Rs 2.70 and Rs 2.80 per kWh. The coal-fired Sasan mega power project in Madhya Pradesh will be supplying power at Rs 1.196 per unit. The real cost of power from existing nuclear reactors is around Rs 4 per unit; the cost of power produced by new reactors will be around Rs 5.50 per unit.

U.S. itself has not set up any nuclear plant in the last 35 years. Its focus is solar, wind, etc. India is among the best regions in the world to harness solar and wind kind of sources and by 2020 it certainly will be commercially viable. India's electricity generation does not depend on the $140 oil you are quoting, our electricity is coal based. We only import oil for petroleum products.

In 2032 our power requirement is 8 lac megawatt and thru this deal we only get 30 to 40 thousands MW, then why so much hurry?

I feel the hurry is due to Bush term ending soon and he wanted to end on a good note for US. Which also means bad for India.

Sasan is a special case since they got their captive coal mine. That may not be the case for every power plant and so price for this is not actual price.

US is now considering starting putting Nuclear power plants again as they are finding cost of gas is increasing very much, Solar needs huge subsidies(much larger than nuclear) and coal plants are causing global warming.
Florida is talking about it and so are other states. US already produces 15% power from nuclear. Recently, UK also has put up a proposal to open Nuclear plants. China is importing 6 plants, France already produces 75-80% by Nuclear means, Japan has 40% and list goes on. Now compare this to Wind/Solar and you will see they are much smaller percentage anywhere.

By 2020, Nuclear will be 7-8% minimum to 15-16% possible, by 2050, it will be 25% which is huge. No other source other than coal has potential to match this.
Already 2-3 years were wasted.

Nuclear energy is only costlier than coal of all the non-renewable resources. coal which you probably know has very big environmental costs and is dirtiest source.
Renewable resources have their limits which is why no country has been able to harness them to make them major contributors yet but work is on.

Unfortunately, energy can not be wished into appearing and among all that is available, N Power has most potential which India has not been able to utilize. Which is why Kalam/MMS etc think India would do better with Nuclear Energy.
