Political tamasha
by Bashir on Jul 27, 2008 07:37 AM  Permalink

How come the Aaj Tak or Tehalka were not available to capture all this in camera and show that they have achieved a scoop. OH scoops are only for the other side is it? The Cangras can do no wrong is it? The Cangras does not give bribes it is only the dirty opposition that takes money is it?
Th Cangras has reduced our political system to the lowest level ever. Hey how come Atal Bihari vajpayee govt did not think of all this to save their Govt a few years back. They lost by just one vote.

India won
by Gujumal on Jul 24, 2008 06:29 PM  Permalink

The Loksabha members must be ashamed of their behavior. The people who sent them need to consider seriously why they want to vote for such people who oppose just to oppose. I am proud to see the glimpse of hope in the MP's who voted keeping the interest of India in mind rather than their own personal goals.
To me this was a victory for India and its people and a resounding defeat for the politicians.

'Winning the Battle, but Losing the War'-By Ms Sheela Bhatt,Editor
by kartik dore on Jul 23, 2008 09:03 PM  Permalink

The learned Journalist has given a bold title,
but not defined which one is Battle and which
one is War.
No doubt, the UPA Govt won in the trust vote, &
lives to get on with its declared CMP agenda
in the next 8 months, before it faces the 'Aam
Aadmi' in the next Lok Sabha elections. In that
limited sense, the next elections could be
compared to a WAR(& the trust vote to a Battle)
But here again, being free of the burdensome &
non-cooperative Left(with no real experience
in running a govt or delivering on a promise)
the UPA has better chance of facing the voter.
In fact,it is a good thing that UPA is rid of
the 'Left' baggage.
I'd like to read an analysis of the stand(s)
taken by the BJP,the Left and BSP in relation
to the Nuclear Energy Deal(not the trust vote)
We know that at election time all parties like
to posture. Let our journalists not fall into
the same trap of 'cynical posturing'!

The distinguished journalist needs to consider the following points:
A)The UPA-Left Alliance was in fact dragging on
in spite of CMP..it was sliding down, with the
Left only adding negative value for 4 years.
When Dr Singh firmly went ahead, the Left quit
the alliance to bring UPA down. Thus the trust
vote was the Left's doing, and their bluff was
called by the Lok Sabha.
B)The question as to why Sonia & Dr Singh went
for the trust vote was given on the floor by
the PM.With its back to the wall, the UPA had
to choose between resigning & trust vote.PM
clarified that he had no personal/political
agenda.
C)The mud-slinging allegations by the BJP MPs
and the display of cash in the House has
'bruised' the Parliament and all MPs/MLAs
of India,& they must stew in their shame!
In particular,LK Advani and not Dr Singh is
to answer for this dirty game.
D) With the Left acting more as a hinderance
for 4 years, the UPA Govt did not act more
forcefully.By standing up for their agenda
Sonia/Dr Singh have regained credibility a
little.As far as wheeling/dealing by MPs &
the 'Lobbies' goes, it's for us voters &
the nation to wake up to electoral reforms.
E) I expected a more balanced and analytical
report from Ms Sheela Bhat.It is regrettable
that her article comes through as cynical,
one-sided,and opportunistic.She has not seen
a single positive aspect in any party or
politician.As Readers,we deserve

The Politics of Cross-Voting
by All Right on Jul 23, 2008 12:17 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The analysis of cross-voting indicated that 6 SP MPs switched to BSP and 1 Congress MPs switched over to the BJP.

These cross-voting started 10 days ago with Mayawati and BJP parading their defectors. BJP tried poaching more Congress

MPs like Jalappa, whose son is already a BJP MLA in Karnataka. Congress was supposed to lose as many as 4 MPs to the BJP

and the SP was being targeted by UNPA for a vertical split.

The best form of defense was offense and the UPA-SP retaliated in kind to not only stem the tide but to put both the

UNPA and NDA on the defensive.

So Mayawati, Karat and Advani maybe crying crocidile tears now. They have been worsted in their own game. Losers
