According to Vajpayee, when he became the PM in 1996 Rao handed him a piece of paper which simply stated 'Bomb is ready. You can go ahead.' (referring to a nuclear device) and asked that it should not be made public. Vajpayee revealed this only after Rao's death.
With nuclear and coal based together, it will be double of what we have been calculating. This deal makes us kill 2 birds or more with one stone. This deal will help India prevent economic slide down in these bad times for the next 10 years or so. Certainly help to prevent from sliding severely behind China. In 10 years time, we will develop new strengths from which we can renegotiate existing deals and new deals. India will offer so many new incentives in future that powerful countries will be drawn to it and will make them turn the eye if we violate agreements. This deal also aligns us with USA which is the right thing to do in these bad times. However good India's peace loving culture and democracy may be, it hasn't helped us in our foreign policy with respect to neighbors as none respect or fear us; we offer no disincentives or incentives to channel their behavior. In those terms we are hardly a power. We need to learn aggressiveness from Americans and even if we have to toe certain lines of US, we will still do better and our alignment with US will cause neighboring countries- big and small to respect us. Already US's wars in Afg. & Iraq- rightly or wrongly are helping India in severely reducing terrorism on its soil which we had no hope of being able to do on our own.

. Last but not the least US needs India and also respects both its people & culture of hard work and spiritual richness. We have made a huge impact in US and world with our yoga, IT, gurus and many other things. Americans love Indians and India. This "tight" relationship should work well at least for next 5 years. India can "Manage" US. It is a win-win proposition for India. We should use this close relationship to expand research in nuclear science, power, space, electronics, etc. US will share with India because India does not believe in simply "taking", it "gives" all the time.
Its sad day bcoz MMS refused to be a puppet in hands of Left...this man knuckled down LKA and gave him a reply by actions.. Chidambaram said that some people are aiming that India does not go ahead of China...
bcoz people said whats happening and people realised whats happening - i must say it was a sad day - BUT not in parliament in the traitors party of India - the F*U*C*K*I*N*G left parties

And make Mr. Somnath Chattrejee the head of CPIM.
Thank India, that guy like Karats are tolerated for four years. I wish MMS had been more forceful earlier, we would have moved faster along the development line. Time to dump Karats in Arabian sea or drown them in Bay of Bengal. People of bengal & kerala realise what a nonsense they have been for last four yrs. Karat is sad bcoz India will not be spending 1000 Crs for another election which is going to produce another hung parliament, so no surity of five year term. Instead we can use this amount for development now. Look at the way they have destroyed a very happening Bengal. Indo-US cooperation should be taken to next level now. We cooperated with USSR for 45 yrs and remained a poor developing nation, despite resources. Lets coop with USA and see where we go in next 20 yrs. Nuc power India should not held hostage to dogmatic ideas of the Left. Its ideology is dead, it is dying in China, USSR is dead. Only it needs to be buried with all the rituals in India. let India progress Mr Karat.
We are rich in Thorium the future of fuel and substitute of Uranium. Ramsethu broke because of thorium not for making shortest route b/w Bay of Bangal and Arabian sea. We are already developed Advacned Heavy Water Reactors which works with thorium where we should go for reprocessing procdure. The N-deal is constraining us "not to go for reprocessing", nothing but our new generation reactors are not going to take off, which uses fuel of the future, Thorium. N-Deals will make us to dump with uranium( studies says which is going to exhsust in 25 years on earth) though not letting us for reporcessing as reporcessed waste plotonium used for N-waepons. By the deal we are not going to utlise our resources, though we have plenty???. We are not safe and allowed to developments further with N-atoms. what is best ???? Dr.Sing knows , who signed behalf of nation.

get your facts straight. As of no technology is in place for Thorium based reactors. India is cooperating with European countries for Third Generation reactors. Thorium based reactors are Fifth generation reactors, which are going to take minimum 15 more years to develop. Reactors are brick walls that can be constructed in 20 days. It is going to take time. India will take its own time to construct the reactors. donot over- estimate capabilities of our scientists who work on shoestring budget, even though they are very capable scientists. when time comes we will have thorium reactors. This deal is not only about nuc energy. Its more about getting out of technology denial regime and getting latest technology, which will help India develop faster and get the share of world attention which we so richly deserve. Hope that Bush pushes it in USA. Good luck to my country. May it achieve the glory it enjoyed till 14th century

you seem to be very knowledgeable. could you please guide me to these "studies" that say uranium will exhaust in 25 years. thank you
How much power will be generated through nuclear technology? How much will it cost? Who will provide the technology? What about the environmental effect, how the nuclear waste is going to be handled? What if the US decides to stop supplying raw materials and technology? etc. I think Govt. should have taken the scientists opinions on these issues before even thinking about the deal. In stead, the Govt. has used unscrupulous means to stay on the power and push the deal. I can say for sure, it is a black day for democracy.

Starting of the end of the democracy in India. UPA gets credit. UPA bowed head to industrialists, thats way DrSing didn't call for debate about the N-Deal before he signs. How many of us know the details of deal. Dr Singh shame on you. First time ever MPs are traded for voting.

I don't think this is the first time. PV narasmha Rao did it when MMS was finance minister (may be he arranged for the funds). But, this is definitely the most shameful one that too for a deal which will have a far reaching consequence on India's future.

Look at the 'wonderful' performance by the BJP and the LEFT. This trust vote was really meant for the discussion of the most vicious subject THE N-DEAL These parties took it as chance to make political mileage out of it. How many sentences (rather words) were uttered by these people about the N-deal? Did they mention anything critical about the subject. Did they not read the many debates in several forums? They had several points to state which could 'lock' the congress. They should have narrow down the subject to N-deal. They wanted to prove their political superiority. But the intelligent opponent managed them in the way the congress draw the road.!!. I doubt very much 'they are for the N-deal”. Then what for all these noise? Tell the people.
The West Bengal was well developed state some 30 years back. By the mis-rule the state is brought down to the level which forced them to preach 'capitalism'. Budha is a capitalist wearing a communist gown. People are aware of it. Budha wants to bring the past glory by adopting capitalist methods. Then why do they made this state to the present condition? They may not accept this.
Advani's speech was very saddening. He claimed that the deal will be renegotiated. Is it possible. Within the next few months MMS will commit billions of rupees worth of contracts. No government can disown such commitments. Do not fool the people.
RE:Debate in the parliament
by peddapuram Babu on Jul 23, 2008 04:08 AM Permalink
The debate should have been before the govt go for agreement. DrSing did not go to debate in parliment even the opposite asked for it. If he does this before today he need not have gone for trust vote. DrSing bowed heads to corporate giants who is going to get Neuclear Power plants and going high consumers of Thorium reserves is substitute of Uranium, which the India is rich( >25% of world) and all western countries eyte on this. After signing we have seen the horse trade in parliment for voting. All industrialist poured their money as they are favoured by UPA. Only one good politician DrSing became dirty. first time ever MPs were traded for trust vote. Is the starting of the end of Democracy in India ???
What a wonderful day for democracy. Sad day for the traitors and the begining of the end of Karat, Yechury and their gang of traitors in the country for ever.
