No military powers... But once they said that Iraq has Weapons of Mass destruction-nuke weapons.. Look what has happened there.
US is pulling out of its diplomatic relations with Pakistan and is attacking the so called jehadis in Paki territory. US now needs a new alley in the sub-continent thats y the push.

"...does IAEA have melitery powers to force inspect India if we decide agains it.."

Can't believe the extent of your stupidity and ignorance. What do you think has been happneing in Iran for the past 2 years? IAEA doesn't have a military set-up, bird-brain, but the US can invent any number of reasons, with the support of other western nations, to force inspection in India. India will be clearly out-numbered with all western nations ganging up against her. The other western countries will go along with the US when it comes to forcing India down on its knees.

low self esteem ??
by Sankha Ghosh on Jul 22, 2008 02:58 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

why are we so worried about this deal - as if it is do or die situation for us??

It seems to be it is just a license to bring in nuclear technology and fuels in Indian soil from rest of the world.
American companies like GE or whatever will bring in their money, set up nuclear power plants in India with their own technology, arrange for their our fuel and sell electricity to us - what is the problem here ??
* in the process 70% of our existing nuclear establishment will be under IAEA inspection raj - so what ??
* may be congress or some American politician or company will receive a huge kickback ... nothing new, it is happening all the time
* we can still continue to produce sufficient bombs to deter our enemies, I guess we are NOT planning to produce 25000 bombs like Americans or Russians
* May be our M.Sc and Ph.d in Physics will get jobs there - like our BEs MEs in American software companies now
* May be bond and confidence between this two civilization will increase further more... leading us to a new frontier ... just look back after what happened after the software revolution - it is always a good idea to get attached to the first boy in the class for back benchers, making sure the flow of knowledge is for our advantage

* and in the event, due to some reason or the other, we have to scrap the deal - we will - we are still a independent country - may be we loose (actually American companies managing the power plants, e.g., GS) the fuel supply and hence power generation - so what ?? American companies and hence America will loose all their nuclear business in India. (just see how China is doing the arm twisting)
* I think, we should be little more pragmatic and confident and get the deal through, invite American companies to set up 100s of nuclear power plants in India (because it is saturated in America) with their money and technology, get them into running conditions...and then call the sorts --- just look back and see what happened with Dhabol power plant :-)

Do you remember Bhopal gas tragedy. What happen to that company. Still our people facing the problems without justice. So what will happen if 100s of nuclear power plants will set here by them? We are not going to make 25000 bombs but we cant go for further military nuclear experiments. In case , if they will not supply Nuclear fuel in future, than what will be the solution?
And this is the same country which always troubled the world, how can we go ahed with this kind of country?
You should keep in mind that this is the same country who supports pakistan.
after all , if still there is some thing advantageous, than why PM is not making clear about the facts of the deal?
Inflation is also a problem which need imediate remedy, but this economist is hiding behind the deal.

Good piece, by and large.

Whether this point of view affects the thoughts of MMS is anybody's guess.

MMS has sold this country and our children and future generations will be defenceless against any bullying by the west.

BJP is actively colluding with congress to let the deal through, by giving access to congress to poach and influence BJP MP's, all at the behest of americans .

And finally its only Left and BSP who are left holding the baton. Anyways, they did put up a brave fight, especially Prakash Karat, who comes out shining out of this, as the MAN who stood by his views, inspite of sabotage acts by his own comrade.

God save India from the treacherous congress and the indecisive BJP.

Great article.
The common man does not seem to understand that there is nothing called 'trust' or 'friendship' in international politics.
The people of USA are the exact _opposite_ of their government - they mind their own business. Their Govt on the other hand wants to mind everyone's business and dictate terms. USA is this century's Neo-Imperialist Britain.
Rajiv Gandhi (like him or hate him, your choice) was made a target using IPKF/LTTE as an instrument. LTTE's apology is a weak attempt to hide a higher power's involvement. Many western governments have a published doctrine of supporting, sustaining and igniting insurgencies or terrorism in the third world to keep them under economic and cultural control. Osama is an instrument only. China is not opposing the Indo-US nuclear deal at least because of either of these:
(a) It likes a situation where war causes problems for India, not for itself, when faced with that final choice
(b) Beijing Olympics - their credibility lifeline.
Israel gets a large amount of energy from Solar, wind, etc. USA itself is advancing dramatically in the use of green electricity. And _dumping_ obsolete uranium _fission_ technology on us, as usual.
They dump cars. They dump weapons. They dump/sell crude/petrol. It's simple business - give browns and blacks inferior goods and make them feel good about it. Whites enjoy superior goods and profit! Our MPs act directly against their stated purpose, sworn under oath. Democracy at its worst.
