New-killer deal
by Anish Tripathi on Jul 23, 2008 11:14 AM  Permalink

Hi Rajeev,

I have been intuitively against this deal, not conceptually, but in many of the things that it probably binds us by - but was never very clear on this. Thanks for making it very very clear. My compliments.

The winning of the trust vote and the way it has been won, are so distressing and depressing, that one is losing sight of the fact that now the govt is going to merrily push ahead with the deal, and frankly we can do jack-shit about it.

One wonders why the Americans are so keen to push thru this legislation, when it is obviously going to be difficult, just because ostensibly it is good for India. My grand-mom used to say that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Our string of strategic blunders in thelast 60 years of independence are so many, that it is not funny. I really wonder what can be done to reverse this.

Thanks

Anish

Congratulations to Sulekha Shastri for your very factual and informative notes and observations ! I'm sure the majority of Hindus are blithely unaware of these iniquities ( they are deeply engrossed in films and the antics of film stars and after hours activities ). The responsibility for this hypocrisy can't be blamed on selfish and corrupt politicians only ; the Hindu masses have been lulled into their "comfort zone" by their increasing interest in the heroics of film stars . What they fail to realise is that their interests are slowly but surely being whittled away until they will be given the "step relative " treatment in their own country.
HINDU YOUTH OF INDIA PLEASE AWAKE BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE !

For shame: Weakest PM ever has become the most corrupt PM ever.
by Brij D on Jul 23, 2008 09:27 AM  Permalink

Manmohan Singh has made the Indian parliament a bazaar. And the whole world saw it. He made India lose respect. And the deal makes India lose considerable sovereignty over its military options in the future.
Manmohan Singh has made corruption legal. At least, people used to hide corruption earlier. Now it has become mainstreamed because of what Manmohan Singh has done.

Let truth be told. India was not able to exert force because of oil dependence on Islamic country. Nuke power is only Strategic alternative to petroleum in case of War or blockade by Islamic forces. Once Nuke deal is in place it will make India insulated from Mideast infuence and give India power to dictate term to Islamic forces who are spreading terror in whole world. So, By Congratulating Congress for their victory if anti BJP forces are happy then I also Congratulate Congress for making this deal successful.... Let's see who will have the last Laugh...Hhaha

Nonsense Article
by Parth Mehta on Jul 23, 2008 06:12 AM  Permalink

This was a completely non-sense and useless article. I don't know where these people come from with these stupid theories of theirs. Too much of non-sense has been written on this deal. The problem with this new format of media (internet forums and so many news channels) is many times unimportant and stupid points are also given undue importance and then they are discussed endlessly. We don't need to discuss on stupid theories and false allegations. Tomorrow one more stupid will put an article and we will again discuss it on forums or participate in opinion polls on news channels, which at the end of the day will be useless. So lets not waste time and not give importance to these stupid articles. Does rediff editors or moderators actually review the articles before putting it on board? I doubt it.

What China Wants, China Gets!
by Infidel Blogger on Jul 23, 2008 06:12 AM  Permalink

For thousands of years, China was ruled by dynasty after dynasty before finally becoming a republic in 1912. In 1949, the Communist People's Republic of China was formed after the defeat of the Nationalist forces. And in 1978, Deng Xiaoping ascended to power and began a series of economic reforms.

Since then, China's economic years have been impressive, but I think the most amazing thing is that this economic miracle happened under a Communist regime.

Even though the Communist Party regulates practically every aspect of both public and private life in China, capitalism has flourished without democracy for one simple reason: The Chinese leaders want it.

You see, the Chinese government gets what it wants because that is what happens under a totalitarian regime with $1.8 trillion in its pocket.

Let me give you three recent examples:
1.Cut the air pollution in Beijing. Starting last Sunday, cars with license plates that end in an odd number are banned from the roads every other day, alternating with cars that have even-numbered plates. The Chinese government estimates that this will take one million cars off the road each day.
2.Don't break the law in China. The Chinese government does not release the numbers, but according to Amnesty International, China is the world's leader in state-sanctioned executions. The death penalty is applied to more than 60 crimes including corruption, drug trafficking, embezzlement, and even tax evasion!

Fools die
by PAWANKUMAR NATHANI on Jul 23, 2008 01:59 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Everybody commenting this article to be good is fool..
The deal never guarantees anything. The deal only ensures that nobody can deny India fuel just because India is not signatory to NPT or CTBT.

as regards to inspections, yes the deal talks about inspections but only of declared civilian sites. That means deal implicitly gives acceptance to India having military nuclear installations and those would not be in the ambit of inspections.

India has enough fuel for Nuclear Power but what happens, if India decides to weaponise itself, then the Nuclear fuel falls very short as we cannot use the same fuel for power and weapons also.

The question of guaranteeing supply, nobody and no deal would do that. All the supplies will be subject to conditions. If Russia while supplying gas to european nations can extract higher prices, then anybod can do anything. Atleast becaus of this deal, we wont be denied fuel in the first place.

Now lets come to the question of application of Hyde Act. Hyde Act is their internal problem. In any case US will not supply fuel or tech to any country who will test its weapons, so that thing is out of question. But when we actually test & US stops supplies and also at the same time asks to return the fuel. India also can do the Volte face & say, we won't do it wha the hell US wants to do let it do it.

See. In international Politics, they play a game then we also should be ready with our version, we ca never be virtuous also and not ready to end

This article is nothing but a nonsensical rhetoric, the author has displayed no evidence of knowledge or depth of understanding of any subject covered. I describe the views at best as whimsical.

And you think that you are smarter than Mr Rajeev who I believe is having more info to these deals. Come on Mr gupta do not be a daft byt saying things which you do not know. May there could be a lacuna but then do not say that it was whimsical atleast by virtue of being a reporter and Journalist he should have better view of the deal. I did not mean that he is 100% right but then I am sure he might not be baised, he will also want to safe gaurd India's interest.

Very well said and right to the point
by Sincere Citizen on Jul 22, 2008 10:02 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The reason the US govt. hates BJP is not because they are communal but because they went ahead with the Pokhran blast defying the wishlist of US govt. please note that the American people may be thinking completely differently than their govt.

It is unfortunate that once again in history our own people have stabbed us in back. As shaheed Bhagatsingh said we should be more afraid about the "whites" amongst us than the white man.

Unfortunately it seems that the Congress is working against India rather than for India. By forcing this deal they are pushing India back into a slave position.

I also feel that this deal is hasty and perhaps not good for India in the long run.

However, if it allows India to have separate nuclear weapons facilities, does that still not allow India to have the nuclear option? Why the need to be a non-nuclear state? If anything, India is more responsible compared to say US itself when it comes to restraint... so why not be a responsible nuclear nation - especially when surrounded by rogue nuclear nation(s).

Have the people opposing the deal have actually read the deal agreements or atleast read prime minister's speech after the trust vote? If they haven't, I urge them to go ahead and take some time to please read those and then put their expert comment. There is nothing wrong in expressing the opinion in a free country but atleast it should be an informed and unbiased opinion atleast.
