I think we have already liberalised the utilities sector. As of today, Private - Public partnerships are the order.

Why don't we allow the private sector to handle this. Let them tie up with technology partners and provide us with the energy we need. Why should the government take up this job when we all know their efficiency when it comes to executing it.

I think the government should stick to legislation and lay out a framework for producing nuclear energy. The private sector should then move in and buy reactors, fuel etc and bid for certain territories with a utility tariff regulated by a competent body. If we could do that in Telecom so succeefully, why not the Power sector?

Also, why can't the US take up a BOOT project, by bidding to provide power for the next 20 years? Any suggestions?

We people of India support national causes
by VB on Jul 21, 2008 10:09 AM  Permalink

N deal has to become a reality like IT, auto and services in India. This will bring proud to India. Any Govt without left would run much better and now BSP another spoiler. We request polititians to work for the country and support PM who is dedicated for the cause of India. This is one more golden opportunity.

Rise of Mayawati, BJP engineering absentions to cut her to Size
by All Right on Jul 21, 2008 08:30 AM  Permalink

All the defections including that of Shahid Siddiqui shows it is not UPA but UNPA and NDA that are indulging in the defection game. But Shahid Siddiqui's defection has made the game clearer:

a. The Left's game-plan is to foster Mayawati on the nation
b. As the UNPA gains momentum, BJP's prospect of victory shrinks. What follows maybe is mass desertion by regional parties, particularly of NDA towards UNPA
c. The deal is being opposed as anti-Muslim

Within these re-alignments taking place, the BJP and NDA strategically are covertly encouraging abstentions. A UPA win will burst the UNPA bubble as the reward for all Mayawati's poaching of MPs will be that she will be tried for corruption.

Maran breaks silence, will support UPA
by Salman on Jul 21, 2008 03:03 AM  Permalink

Good that Karunanidhi was not consulted by UPA. In fact, he wanted to go over to Delhi and had also announced the date of his visit but suddenly what happened. Perhaps UPA should have said no. Then only Karat went to Chennai and met him. After meeting Karuna only Karat withdrew support.

Appreciate Maran's decision.

Though I am a BJP worker and wanted UPA to fail, I appreciate Maran's decision to vote with UPA. He contested on one party's ticket and he should not misuse the mandate.

Benefits of nuclear deal
by M Srinivas on Jul 21, 2008 12:26 AM  Permalink

If nuclear deal goes through, India's energy needs will be fully met, Nuclear energy is infinite energy though it more costly by 20% to 50% than coal or hydro electricity. More and more industries can be started, lot of employment can be generated for people and there will be overall improvement of life of people. There is possibility that India can become an economic superpower like Japan or USA. Regarding security, when India gradually become an economic superpower, more and more i.e. 10 times more conventional weapons, 10 times more missiles, 10 times more fighter planes and 10 times more nuclear weapons can be built. More navy ships and more submarines, more fighter planes can be built or purchased. India had already exploded nuclear weapons. When India gradually becomes a economic superpower, govt. will have more money, hundreds or thousands of missiles with nuclear and conventional warheads can be built. No country will raise a hand against India. Now it is necessary that, India's energy needs are to be met and India had to become an economic superpower. Massive build up of weapons (nuclear and conventional) can be taken up gradually in future. China or Pakistan will never dare to attack India, as India is a nuclear power and nuclear missiles can reach Bejing. If nuclear deal goes through, India likely to become an economic superpower as well as military superpower or mini military superpower in future. There will also be an option to buy gas from Iran in addition to

Mayawati has completely changed the landscape of Indian Politics.
by Dinesh Thakur on Jul 20, 2008 11:58 PM  Permalink

Make no mistake as most opposition parties are very angry with congress party which is targeting thier parties by buying thier MPs so they will support maya ji at all cost and we will be surprised by the final result.
Maywati has mobilised trmendous support now and if election held soon she will have landslide victory. Congress and SP have lost muslim support forever. Muslims decide more than 100 MP seats including 45 from UP alone and dalits and other weaker class more than 250 MP seats. Even upper caste are now supporting Mayawati in big numbers.

by cityemp or on Jul 20, 2008 08:13 PM  Permalink

A third umpire aided with DD cameras and other media centers offering cute shots will be required to ensure a clean match.
LAlu and others are trouble makers.
Alredy complaints are there about match fixing and the pitch itself.
Umpire chatterjee seems to favour UPMA.

Karunandihi wants Sethu project not because it is good for the state, but because Hindus are against it. He wants to himiliate Hindus, especially brahmins.
