For the first time, CPM has attracted the imagination of people in a big way.

Let this be the beginning of a fruitful and a wonderful relation between people and governance.

Why is the speaker sticking on?
by Sastry on Jul 20, 2008 07:37 PM  Permalink

Although it is preposterous to assume that the speaker has been purchased, I wonder what makes him stick to the chair. I hope he is not there to stop the fall of the government in view of his avowed anti BJP stance which is stronger than the discipline his party is proud of. It is a different matter if the govt does not fall and will be able to cobble up the majority. But....

Too much is being made of the issue!!!
by Ramesh Kapoor on Jul 20, 2008 07:31 PM  Permalink

There is no doubt that the Speaker of the Lok Sabha should be a person, once elected, to be above board to uphold the supremacy of the legislature. But, Somnath Chatterjee, at the same time has diverse views and while trying to be impartial has shown his bias, thus delimiting himself from the charateristic of impartiality. As for his threat to resign, etc. etc., he has eaten his own words many a times, and, apparently too much is being made of the issue of his office of the speaker. As an observer of events over the last four years, it would not be wrong to say that Somnath Chatterjee is all air and no substance. In other words, he is just a loud mouth.

Constitution should prevail
by myindiamylove on Jul 20, 2008 07:23 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The speaker should not be aligned to any party.
The constitutions of India, should prevail, not politics.

Neerja - Your assesment of Somnath is incorrect
by Narasimha Swamy on Jul 20, 2008 07:17 PM  Permalink

It is a plain truth that Somnath is not resigning from the post of Speaker to avoid voting along side the BJP. He not not staying there to uphold the dignity of the post but for his convenience. Had he not made this argument that he would like to continue a speaker to uphold the apolitical nature of the job, I would have respected him highly. But he is doing politics being incharge of a apolitical constitutional post. Please do not give too much credit to him. I definitely did not expect this kind of argument from a senior editor like Neerja.

CPIM and patriotism
by Superman on Jul 20, 2008 07:09 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Today the CPM leaders are talking like they are very much concerned about their beloved motherland India!!!! But in 1964, these people were donating money against their motherland they are so much concerned about. People will laugh to know that Prakash Karat loves his country!!!! Somnath Chatterjee was never been a staunch communist. He is a democratic leftist. His father was even a nationalist Hindu Mahasabha MP. So his view has to be different from a baseless demagogue like Prakash. Prakash does not know any Indian language perfectly including his mother tongue Malayalam. As far as UPA is concerned, one can oppose the Govt. for inflation, but not for N-deal. Most Indians are in favor of the deal. And those who are comparing with Argentina, Chile and their fate in US hand, they are missing something...Indians have already landed in US heart, they are slowly moving through the veins towards US lungs, brain, kidney everywhere....They are in the Silicon Valley and in the Wall Street....The Washington Capitol Hill is not very far from the Wall Street....We will capture US brain very soon....but we can never reach Chinese heart...It was a communist country Soviet Union which invaded another communist country Czechoslovakia in 1968....So Mr. Karat, when you are looking into the Chinese interest, you can never be a patriot....Even hobnobbing with the Dalit queen can not save you....Your party is going to witness its worst in Kerala and WB in coming months....and China can not stop

Good argument, but they won't count much with hardened commies. Best is to throw them out. Anybody would prefer US control over against Chinese even if they make Prakash Karat its Governor of North East incuding Bengal and Kerala

M/S Chatterjee
by Ashok Kale on Jul 20, 2008 07:03 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Every body may know that Mr N C Chatterjee, father of Mr Somnath was a hardliner Hindu and was national president of Hindu Mahasabha, parent organisation of Jan Sangh now known as B J P.
Chatterjee family may be ashamed to have such son, who works against Hinduism only for want to remain in limelight. Communists have no ideology except to blindly follow China/Russia. Residing in India but looking towards Communist countries.

No body can excpect from SN Chatterjee, more than what he is doing at present, everybody has seen him how he is partially presiding lok sabha proceedings.

Yey hai Kissa Kursi ka, aaj hai, kal milegi ya nahi milegi. Umar bhi bahut ho gayi, pata nahi kab tak Bharat Mata ko aise logo ka BHAR uthana padega

There was anothetr Hindu Mahasabha leader called Savarkar
sarcastically called - Vir savarkar. His Virta was that
he wrote an unconditional apology to British queen and
secured a release from Cllular prison, Andaman. He
also promised that he will never act against British
and kept his word.

RSS was THE ONLY organization which was NEVER BANNED
by British during their rule.

Compare with Congress which was banned for over a
decade and Communists who were banned through - out
RSS blindly worships anything white skin - Aryan,
European. Claiming to be Indian - they were the FIRST
organization to adopt a BRITISH UNIFORM !!

Those who support RSS here are filthy boot lickers of
white skinned animals - they will always support
any deal with white whether nuke deal or a deal to sell
their parents and wives to white.

Just wait a few more weeks!
Most of the cpm supporters will join the canopy of
the B J P !
Because many may followers of cpm has realised that the hopes shown by cpm led leftists are smashed!
Congress is pro muslim party and has betrayed hindu causes to the maximum!
The third front is day dreaming and cant give results!
So only B J P is left out to do things, which should revive SANATAN DHARMA and that will bring happiness to all while hindu bashing will also go!
Hindus never discriminated, only during Islamic/BRITISH rules some pervertions came but its going now!
