Good or Bad
by Knight Knight on Jul 19, 2008 01:54 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The basic premise of this deal is that India needs energy to grow. Lets say this deal goes through and India succesfully implements this program which results in lots of energy generation and Indian economy booms. Here is my take on whats the parties involved are thinking:

Indian Govt:

Strategy : We have limited uranium production which cannot suffice even todays need for civilian energy and millitary needs. Lets go ahead, sign a deal with US get nuclear fuel which can be used for civilian purpose and use the indigenious uranium for military purpose.

US Strategy: Sell nuclear fuel to India. In return
1. IAEA (indirectly US) will monitor all our civilian nuclear reactors.
2. US will earn lots of dollars selling both fuel and equipment to India.
3. Lets hope India does a great job at increasing its energy supplies using this deal and grows economically enough to be dependent on the nuclear reactors for sustaining its growth.

we have Domiasat urnium of 16000 tonnes as per defense report ...........which is enough till we develop fully our thorium technology........ after developed thorium technology we did not want any assistance ................. Tell govt to make policy to dislocate 30000 people to safe area and start mining in Domiasat instead of Indo-US deal

Brother in anysense I am not supporting the deal ................... becoz I can gues why US is doing all these thing .............. But literally dont know why Indians are becoming ignorant even though knowing why NSG has formed , what US want to do in 1971 if Soviet Union has not supported us....what they have done with tarapur reactor .... they all the way supported Pak .... what are situation with Pak even we know their army chief declared that any war in future will be Nuclear war ......its not time to tie our hand from weaponisation in name of development ......... infact Nuclear power will not show any hand in
development and by 2020 our thorium technology will be fully developed ... .there I was aggressive becoz of stupid comment .......even though the possiblity given by author is quite thinkable ............ Chinese and Pak do have good Nuclear weapon ................ in current position we are not capable to retaliate properly ...............this congress had stooped DRDO R&D in ICBM development . ........... In all we are the loser if congress go ahead with deal

Good analysis, but flawed
by CSHut on Jul 19, 2008 01:31 AM  Permalink

The author fails to recognize that india will in 10-15 years figure out thorium based breeding of fissile material. Then we wont need any more Uranium.

However, there is no guarantee how long India will need to do research on fast breeder. It may even take 20-30 years to be practically feasible on large scale.

In the meanwhile, do you seriously accept US and the NPT signees (that is the rest of the worl) allow india to by pass NPT to get a better deal?

Trickle of Additional Power?
by Guest on Jul 19, 2008 12:29 AM  Permalink

If in return India gets a trickle of additional nuclear power and invasive inspections in perpetuity of 70% of its civil nuclear reactors-- what difference does it make if India tests a nuke device? They can only stop a trickle of power-- not enough to deter India. The argument of this author simply does not hold water.

WE WILL RETURN THE FUEL IF
by frankfurt boy on Jul 19, 2008 12:21 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This article is crap. It says India have to return the fuel if test. But the fuel supply is for 50 years. NSG is not going to supply the whole fuel in the very first day and India will use it in first few weeks. Are you nut?
Or India is going to test on the 49th year so that all consumed fuel have to return?
Stupid argument!!
"Israel is a US proxy state and its (undeclared) nuclear arsenal is directly under Washington's control. Pakistan is a US client-state. Control over its nuclear weapons too lies in Washington"

Are you kidding?

"Meanwhile, the original five nuclear proliferators (the US, Russia, Britain, France and China) have between them over 25,000 nuclear bombs (India has less than 12) and are unwilling to dismantle even a fraction of this arsenal."

How do you know India got less than 12? Do not Lie with statistics!!

Rediff, please do not publich crap in the name of journalism!
Atleast verify the data. Or is it part of biased propaganda?

Do you think that they could replace the exsisting T&D tech with this new tech?
I will keep quit if you answer these questions!!

No doubt Advani is idiot ........ who will die making Ram Mandir every where in India

STOP SELLING INDIA'S SOVEREIGNITY
by BahujanHitay BahujanSukhay on Jul 18, 2008 11:57 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dear Friends, the author rightly concluded that the N-deal is not in the interest of sovereign India. Indian should understand that only India is great threat to ambitious plans of world's super powers to counter balance their biased/arrogant behaviour in near future. They have already curbed nuclear powers such as Israel, Pakistan, North Korea and trying hard for Iran. Thus remaining nuclear power is India. So they are trying alternate methods such as 123 Agreement to curb India’s sovereignty. It is high time for Indian people to sideline Sikh Prime Minister from selling India’s sovereignty. History has proven that Sikh community only stamped out mutiny of 1857. Today also, from one household of Punjab at least one person is at abroad and remaining are trying to get the chance, showing their integrity with India. Regarding Left front, it is well known fact that Bengali people are ahead of rest of the Indian people by 20 years in thinking. Also Bangali people have provided great intellectual freedom fighters who from the beginning thought about India’s interest. From history, you will find that after Lord Buddha’s revolution to spread education to Indian people, Samrat Ashoka came into existence and India became super power like today’s America where everybody is trying to reach to learn and settle down. Similarly, after Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s revolution India is definitely heading towards becoming Super power. So wake up India and STOP SELLIN

I wonder why no one made arguements like you to Mr. Kalam! I think people will believe Kalam more than your arguements. Dont you think? Did you ask yourself who you are before forcing your views? :-)
BTW, US bombed Japan in 44 and now they are the closest partners.

Power losses
by KT on Jul 18, 2008 11:18 PM  Permalink

"Remember: over 25% of India's power output is lost in transmission and distribution."

I wonder how much power output is lost by developed countries. Would it not be wonderful if the losses can be minimized.
