Mr Bidwai, please let me know in which country every foreign deal is fist approved by the citizens of that country? That is simply impractical and in fact it is not required under Indian constitution. Any Indian government can make foreign deal with any government as long as that deal is made public.
Considering the current situation, the Congress has every reason to deceive Left parties. The communists had never wanted to make any strategic partnership with the USA and that is what the government wants precisely. So, there is a fundamental difference between communists ideology and the Congress ideology and therefore, there cannot be any conclusion in number of meeting between them. The whole situation was created by the hardline stands taken by the communists and they have been given the fitted reply by the Congress. It has been proved that the communists have no practical senses and they should be rejected in every part of political process in India.
The author said the government should have taken the consent of the public before going ahead because this is a major foreign policy movement. But if you read the recent news, USA has sent an envoy to discuss with Iran. That is a major policy shift. Did Mr Bush ask the public before that? That is simply impractical and naive to think like that.

Absurd article and its right place should be garbage bin. Who the hell this Bidwai is to comment "This shift can only facilitate the rise of the already buoyed-up BJP, and could prove a big setback for secularism." Who is he to decide what is "secularism". True Indians are getting sick of listening this word "secularism" from self delared "secular" parties and biased SOBs like Bidwai.

Highly intolerant lot I must say..... though you can't fault the facts laid out, can you?... Didn't Manmohan do what Mukherjee had said he'd NEVER do?...
But such "small irritants" like upholding the democracy, abiding by promises etc. are something which Congress never honored anyway.... ain't it?... ;-)

One of the very informative articles. Our shortage of power is our own creations. May be the 'special interest' of other nations worked for that. Then also we are at fault. The other countries started thinking aginst nuclear energy ten years back but we still talk about it seriousely. What a contradiction!! They are trying to decommission the plants and dispose them as soon as possible. We are talking about adding more to our system. It is nothing but businesses. How do other countries think for their benefit? We join them. Fantastic!! They are in for huge investments in other forms of energy resources. Once we invest for the nuclear power there will not be any capital left for the investment for 'other resources'. Is it not going backward?
