by sarat pillai on Jul 16, 2008 10:27 PM  Permalink

Speaker
by kskumar on Jul 16, 2008 10:24 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

What's with our Speaker these days? The party which he has served loyally for decades asks him to quit and he demurs. Now he says that he will not vote along with the BJP. This is taking anti-BJP rhetoric to ridiculous levels.

It was such stupid attitude which made him and his party condemn the Pokhran-II in 1998 when every Indian worth his salt took pride in the same.

Let them see the issues for what they are instead of hanging on to anti-BJP attitude at the cost of everything else. There are times when national interest is supreme and the Speaker and the Left should remember this.

Since when Communists became bothered about national interest? You should know that they are the biggest traitors who believe in borrowed ideology which have been discarded by the countries in which they were originated and also you should know that all communists are the same............bunch of traitors.

First al-Bashir, next ... Bush? Bush is as responsible for the disaster in Iraq as Bashir is for the humanitarian catastrophe in Darfur
by Spiderman on Jul 16, 2008 10:22 PM  Permalink

While there is little chance Omar al-Bashir, the Sudanese president, will ever be brought to trial following his indictment by the International Criminal Court (ICC), the charges brought against him nevertheless offer hope for anyone concerned about human rights around the world.
For Americans, however, the ICC indictment should offer a moment of sombre reflection not merely for our relative inaction with regard to years of mass murder in Sudan.
It is equally disturbing that much of the al-Bashir indictment could just as easily be applied to George Bush, the US president.

Here is part of what the indictment says:

"Bashir was directly responsible [for the activities of the militias]. He is the president. He is the commander-in-chief. Those are not just formal words. He used the whole state apparatus. He used the army; he enrolled the militia/Janjaweed. They all report to him. They all obey him. His control is absolute."

In such context, Bush is also directly responsible for the horrific disaster in Iraq.

Bush's imperial presidency, with its "Unitary Executive" and arrogation of the right to declare war from the constitutionally-appointed Congress, has similarly "used the whole state apparatus" to wage the Iraq war. He "enrolled" our soldiers and his military commanders who "all report to him".

For Bush, like al-Bashir, "they all obey him. His control is absolute".

Probably, just probably, though Som should have taken care to be extremely explicit in his comments to media, if at all the comment was indeed made to the media, and also, if at all the comment was made entirely in context of what he has said besides this.

Speaker without speech
by Nandan Kumar Dey on Jul 16, 2008 10:20 PM  Permalink

Somnath'da had earned his seat all through his career making speeches against Congress. Wonder what his speeches are to be about in an year's time even if UPA comes through now. He talks about upholding the Speaker's chair above party politics and then talks against teh second largest party in the parliament, thus dis-respecting the mandate of the people. Wonder a normal MP if being paid 25 Crores, then what will be the Speaker's value...very interesting... CBI has to be ready with all this extra work once NDA comes to power :)... ofcourse all the anti Mayawati work now under taken by CBI will be scraped... guess Somnath'da is worried of the future.... kal (Speaker ya phir MP ka gaddi) ho na ho... Probably Pranab'saab the master politician that he is has even promised the next VP/President's candidature to Somnath'da.... every one wants growth yaar :)....

Somnath does not fit to Speaker post
by Bharat Kr on Jul 16, 2008 10:15 PM  Permalink

Somnath does not fit to Speaker post. He said, I am speaker, it is not any political post, but non-partisan. Then, how a non-partisan Speaker say, I will not resign and vote along with the communal forces, BJP? Does it shows impartiality, non-partisan? It is a clear partisan approach against BJP and in favor of Congress. Shame on you Somnath. Everybody loves power, but not solding out all norms of ethics, honesty, morality, truth, and above the dignity of the Speaker's Post.

Jealousy
by Agnelo DaSilva on Jul 16, 2008 10:14 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Left is party full of jealousy. If this same N-deal was offered to the State of Kolkota they would have turned everything upside down to finalise it. Even if a neighbouring state if aid is received during any natural calamity they will be jealous of that.

The state of Kolkota should have been a model state but just bcos of the Left Party they are in completely mess.

You are right !! with roads full of garbage and potholes like the face of transport minister Subhas Chakraborti, broken footpaths occupied by hawkers and beggars, obsolete traffic management system with outdated traffic signals where you have to wait for at least 10 minutes before you get a green signal, the corrupt and useless police force busy in collecting loot money to fill their own coffers from traffice rule violating trucks and transport vehicles, roads choking with empty taxis which no other state or city will permit them to ply. With millions of bangladeshis now making this city their safe haven. There is nothing left of Kolkata which Nehru called a dying City 50 years back.
