Spine of Dr. Singh.
by Abdul Aziz on Jul 14, 2008 03:06 PM  Permalink

Dr. Singh showed signs of some spine for the first time for Mr. Bush. Let him sign Nuclear Deal. Why he waited for so long? Why did not he keep his word regarding going IAEA only after the confidence motion? Why this haste? Let him do it democratically. It would be better if we can sign after the general election so that common people of this nation have a say. Let all political parties put their stand on 123 deal in their election manifesto and let people of India decide. That is democracy.

how can a law breaker (sentenced by a criminal court) can hold a place in parliament, which is a place to create laws for THE NATION. how does the courts look this, as gaurdians of constitution?? Does it have any moral responsibility to take it as PIL and give a ruling!

Just check how many of the opposition have similar crminal candidates. If the figures on both side match, then there will not be any problem in voting (Trust Vote) in either case if these criminals are allowed to vote or not allowed.
Jai Hind, Jai our criminal politicians!!!!

we r talking abt convicted criminals ...not the charged ones ...as our constitution (and judiciary) believes that a person is innocent till he/she is convicted

Jenny, they are elected by the people of India, as per the Indian law you can contest the election from the prison and all of them have won the election from the jail.....everything is possible in the great constitution of India.

It will be a shame on the constitution..........!
by shobana nair on Jul 14, 2008 02:59 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Yes, it will be a shame on the Indian constitution if a criminal is needed to help a government in trouble, some other ways to save the government will be welcome. Our constitution should not be misused by criminals who stand for election and create problems to the nation,or vote criminals like them,so that tomorrow they can get bail with ease and pomp.

Anything can happen in elections.
by VENURAJA gopal Bowenpalle on Jul 14, 2008 02:58 PM  Permalink

Remember a joker called Raj Narain defeated Smt.Indira Gnadhi .
At one point of time congress was thought to have been washed out of Andhra , in the high tide of Telugu desam, and in the very next elections it came back to power with thumping majority.
At one time it was thought by political pundits that Congress is standing on its toes in the entire South, but regained a foot hold as much quickly.

You can not really say what happens when , it is all politics.
How can you think that these kit-kat political parties who depend on single individual can hold on for any longer time?

Look DMK is Karunanidhi, Telugudesam Chandrababu Naidu, SP Mulayam, BSP Mayawati,
Lokdal Ajit and so on are dependant on single inviduals with no history to speak and
no idealogy to back them.
For example when Lallu Yadav is gone his party is gone !
So it would be with SP and Mulayam.

In the political arena this vaccum has come in the absense of a charismatic crowd puller in the Congress party.
BJP,and Communist parties difinitely survive as they have ideology, history and a base or reason to survive.
Congress party has a luminous history, and also now it is in power.
Sonia and Rahul can not be written away, and Congrees always stayed together in the event of crises at least so far.
They found three leaders one Lalbahadur shastri after Nehru( a crises)and PV Narasimha rao after Rajiv Gandhi.
And now Manmohan Singh.
Congress and BJP are the major parties in next election.

And yes,

Raj Thakare's grandfather shifted to Mumbai from Madhya Pradesh some decades back for looking job here. Therefore, Raaj Thakray is from Madhya Pradesh just like I am.

Get a railway ticket done for both of us- I would take Raj Thakare back to his home in Madhya Pradesh.

Follow the rule
by Shiv Almal on Jul 14, 2008 02:52 PM  Permalink

There must be some rules for voting right by still MPs in jail as exceptional. Roles of Gomang, Mayawati, Soz, speakers were not clear in trust vote. VP Singh had tough fight. Karat to meet Mayawati, Mayawati with Naidu, Pranab with Basu and Somnath and all are playing great game. Bail-out is larger as parties goes for conditions and with other such criminal MPs not in jail.

From Jail to Bailing out.....
by arbind sinha on Jul 14, 2008 02:51 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Immediately request the President of India and The Chief Justice of Supreme Court of India, the Guardians of Indian consutituion to debar/prevent any MP, Convicted by court and setenced to jail from participating in Parliament proceedings or exercising vote in parliament. Holding sanctity and honour of the Constitution is far more important for the gaurdians of the constitution than playing passive role and allowing the convicts to vote to save a government that has fogotten the TARAPOORE ATOMIC POWER PLANT EPISODE, WHICH STARTED WITH US COOPERATION AND PROMISE FOR UNINTERRUPTED FUEL SUPPLY AND WAS CLOSED BECAUSE US DID NOT HONOUR THEIR COMMITMENT.
FROM THE PAST EXPERIENCES IT IS CLEAR THAT US CAN NOT BE RELIED. for cri

VERY JUSTIFIED IN YOUR CONTENTION. NO ONE IS APPARENTLY AGAINST ALTERNATIVE NUCLEAR POWER FOR CIVIL USE BUT HOW FAR WE CAN VOUCH ON USA'S CONSISTENCY AS A FAIR PARTNER OF THE DEAL IS CERTAINLY QUESTIONABLE. IN THE ERST WHILE DAYS BY DINT OF NATO ALLIANCE FRANCE AND EVEN CANADA HAVE BEEN DISSUADED TO SUPPLY ENRICHED URANIUM TO US.Mrs GANDHI WAS HARASSED IN MANY WAYS THAN ONE IN RESPECT OF OUR PURSUIT OF ATOMIC ENERGY PROGRAMME. THE US REPUBLICAN PARTY AND THE ADMINISTRATION'S PERCEPTION AND MINDSET HAVE SEEN LITTLE DIFFERENCE IN SPITE OF FALL OF SOVIET UNION AND GRADUAL IRRELEVANCE OF NAM MOVEMENT.
THE CONGRESS GOVT SHOULD HV ENGAGED IN A REGULAR DETAILED DIALOGUE WITH ALL ITS POLITICAL ALLIES AND SHOULD HV COME OUT WITH A WHITE PAPER PROVIDING THE SALIENT FEATURES OF THE DEAL FOR PUBLIC TO UNDERSTAND AT LARGE THE RAMIFICATIONS AND IMPLICATIONS SO AS TO ASSUAGE ANY FEAR OR MISGIVING IN OUR MIND THAT THE DEAL IS NOT TRANSPARENT OR DETRIMENTAL TO NATION'S INTEREST.
