If Somnath steps down and his position is replaced by a UPA member, then UPA will loose a candidate for the vote of confidence. If UPA does not afford to lose a candidate, UPA should persuade Somnath to stay in power. At this time, Congress should do whatever it can to stay in power - at least for the sake of deal to go through. India will be the loser if the government topples at this time.
Somnath has conducted himself very well with extreme dignity as an a-partisan speaker and is very well suited to be the next President of India, probably better than the present incum- bent. He is the only living link from the Nehru era. I do not understand why CPM wants to make him a scapegoat of its senseless politics and make India lose a good guy into wilderness. Once he became a speaker, it is assumed he has broken off all his previous political links. India needs him more than CPM. I wish he stays and he makes up his mind not to quite Lok Sabha. He represents the old value system of utmost honesty & uprightness that every Indian wants to look in its leader.

If Somnath really quits under pressure from CPI(M), then the whole conduct of that party in the last two years, on the issue of the nuke deal will smack of high drama.Because, the present incumbent in the Speaker's chair can be expected to be fair in his rulling.I suppose no right thinking person will want a repeat of Goa now in the parliament. The whole noise of CPI(M) clamouring for Somnath's blood is motivated rumours, circulated by the UPA spin masters to force the good man to quit, so that they can have their own man in that position.Somnathji, for heaven's sake don't quit!

Somnath is really likes to be President, that's why coming close to Congress. Poor Somnath, was close to Jansangh, elected by tickets from communists all the time. Unless he is dead, he will look for the post of Presidency. Of course if BJP does not support him, then he will have nightmare.

Somnath, drink two bottles of foreign liquor from Congress giants now. It would more delicious if you get that from Sonia Maino's hand. You will be very fresh and kick Karat out. But also make sure you will be wiped out from Bolpur, your constituency.

CPM dogs don't bark here...
CPI(M) had issued 300-odd press statements in the last four years, majority of them criticising the government and 50 others concerning the nuclear deal.
After having thrown out by the Congress and UPA, the communists have fallen in the lap of BJP whom they always claim they despise. Now Karat and Co are jumping with over-confidence that they would oust UPA from power with the help their political foes, the BJP. Now BJP has to decide if they would support these foes, oppose them or abstain on the floor of the house. Though BJP now lacks mature leadership of Vajpayee, it is now Advani and others who have to decide if it is in national interest to support these communists or will it be a historical blunder they would commit in following in the footsteps of these political parasites.
For that matter, every minister, even the PM should be considered above politics when discharging their respective duties for their country. Instead, if Mr Speaker is able to persuade his party to support Nuclear deal, it would be his greater service to the nation.
I think CPM have two opinions ; Prakash Karat and his Kerala MP is are against Nuclear Treaty and Praksah Karat, Somanath Chatterje, Jyothi Basu, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and ther Bengal team are in favor of signing the agreement. so this will lead a split in the party. The latest informaton indicates that there are some CPI (M) MP's will abstain from voting. Let India Win.

If you are in India, please provide your details. I wish to kick you out of country. Reason is simple. People like you, who think a lot, neither do anything themselves, nor allow others to do.
BTW, for future children to loose one leg and eye, not only neclear reactor, but a missed nuclear bomb test from China can also do it. Fate cannot be changed I guess !
