Here's a report in the Times of India today. Someone please whack these Commies.
HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh residents are warned. From Saturday, you should stop switching on lights and fans, not operate air-conditioners and geysers and live with the help of natural light and air.
Faced with an acute power shortage, this is the across-the-board advisory issued by the authorities on Friday to domestic, commercial and industrial consumers in the state. "The advisory is amazing, as it practically tells people not to use electricity in whatsoever manner. In other words, the state is telling us that the dark ages are here," commented R Nageshwar Rao, a Marredpally resident, who was aghast after being told about the advisory as the area has been witnessing a near daily power-cut for the last few weeks.
The advisory issued by the Central Power Distribution Company of AP Limited on Friday said the state is facing a severe power crisis. This, according to it, is due to inadequate rains leading to no generation from the hydro-electric stations because of dwindling water levels in the main reservoirs, drastic reduction in the share from the central power stations and no source of supply from the other states due to the dry spell across the country.
The current shortfall is 700 MW and is expected to go up to 850 MW by the end of July.

Do you think that by this deal energy problem will solve? All UPA leaders are telling to the public this deal is beneficial to the country. Any deal has merits and de merits. So one has to study the deal in detail to know what are the merits and demerits and then come to a conclusion whether it is beneficial to the nation. To some extent it may be beneficial but at what cost ? USA reactors are three times costlier than thermal power stations and about two times costlier than Russian make reactors. So Cost of unit will be three times higher and it will be like Enron project in Dhabol. Just like crude oil we have to depend on foreign countries for the fuel supply and what is the surety that nuclear suppliers group will not charge exorbitant price in future. We should never forget our experience with Tarapur. So without reprocessing right this deal is useless and we will have problem to store highly radio active spent fuels from 10000Mw Nuclear power plant where we have limited space. In the case of Tarapur it was only 350 MW. The UPA never talks about demerits.
